but i guess you cant compare books to movies.
dont you all agree that they have left a lot of good material off of the movies?
for example the order of the phoenix, they left our so much detail that could have made the movie so much better.
of course i will be watching the next 2 movies, and i am very glad the last one is 2 movies.
Thank you

P.S. - REPLACE THE PERSON PLAYING DUMBLEDORE- Kakemonstere, on 07/04/2008, -2/+6So ***** true! The guy playing Dumbledore is a ***** disgrace with his anger management problems!
- lennybird, on 07/04/2008, -0/+9Such a damn shame the first dumbledore died (R.I.P.). He was absolutely perfect. In goblet of fire when the new dumbledore freaked out at Harry about whether he cheated to get his name in - that definitely is not the dumbledore I remember.
- gryphon50, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4I really miss Richard Harris, he nailed it right on the head.
- thebellmaster1x, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4You know who I think would make a great Dumbledore? Richard Harr–
Oh. Damn it. - gregnorc, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Well we won't be seeing him in the next film.
Oh wait, dream sequences.
Drat. - def1234, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2I think that Ian McKellan would make a great Dumbledore.
- Carnivale, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I agree! I was complaining about the same thing in the post from earlier with just the new photos in it. Michael Gambon sucks as Dumbledore, he is nothing like Richard Harris nor is he anything like the Dumbledore from the books. It's a disgrace.
- Kakemonstere, on 07/04/2008, -2/+6So ***** true! The guy playing Dumbledore is a ***** disgrace with his anger management problems!
- chubbybubba, on 07/04/2008, -16/+4Doubtful. HBP was the worst book of the series. This is the one where dumbledore dies at the end which in my opinion is a 'jump the shark' moment. Last book will be a great movie though.
- dxgg, on 07/04/2008, -1/+7Worst book? Naw, it was pretty darn good. "Order of the Phoenix" was the worst book, I thought.
- sulthernao, on 07/04/2008, -2/+4Geez. Ever heard of literary progression? Dumbledore was killed/died so that Harry would become independent and be able to mature as a character. It is like the passage of power from one generation to the next. It also allowed Voldemort to create a dystopian society that needed to completely destroyed. The seventh book wouldn't be what it is without Dumbledore's death. OotP was ok. I didn't like Harry's anger problems, but again, I understand why JKR did it for its literary element of Harry's character growth.
- Hockey13, on 07/04/2008, -13/+23Look, I like the books, but the movies, IMO, are just terrible. The production quality is pretty good and the directors they've chosen are interesting, but if you compare this entire series of films to the LOTR or even the Harry Potter books, you realize there's one glaring difference: consistency.
If you watch the HP movies from 1 to 5, actors are different, plots unexpectedly change from one movie to the next, sets are totally different, lighting is different, etc. When you watch the LOTR movies in succession, it feels like one movie seamlessly fits into the next. When you read the HP books, the consistency of the storyline and the attention to detail are some of the most important aspects that make them interesting.
Add on top of that a lot of pretty poor screenwriting and acting (mostly from the kids), and it turns into an incoherent series. I personally can't wait until they revisit this 20 years from now and make 7 epic movies more or less at the same time, just like they did with the 3 LOTR movies.- Wartz, on 07/04/2008, -2/+4I doubt that will ever happen.
- jugglingjon, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6I don't know about that. You say that the books were consistent throughout, but they really changed in their attitude as the series went on. The first two were far more childish than the last two, which were pretty dark. The fact is with different directors you're going to have a different look, but I'd say that fits just fine with the way the books evolved.
What actors/sets are so different from film to film? Are you talking about Dumbledore? He's the only major character I can think of that they switched actors with, because he DIED. If anything, I'm impressed with how they kept the cast consistent across films. The sets seem pretty good too, not sure what you're talking about there either.
And what does 'plots unexpectedly change from one movie to the next' even mean? It's a different movie, based on a different book; it's going to have a different plot. - gryphon50, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2you make some good points but some flaws are unavoidable. The only actor that is different is for the Dumbledore character and that is because the previous actor died. And some of the younger actors' acting is a bit shaky but remember, they chose these actors at age 10 or 11, it's hard to predict whose skills will develop and whose won't. It's not fair to make a comparison w/ LOTR because those movies were all shot at the very same time.
- darlyn, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I've always thought the movies were absolute *****, especially Goblet of Fire. Prisoner of Azkaban was at least tolerable.
- artsii, on 07/04/2008, -24/+10Snape Kills Dumbledore!
sorry i just had to- dxgg, on 07/04/2008, -1/+3You brute! You brute! You brute!
- potterboy, on 07/04/2008, -3/+3Actually Dumbledore kills Dumbledore!
- Kakemonstere, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7Well, he doesn't really "kill" him:P
- Acglaphotis, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2Oh come on, at least start with the book 7 spoilers.
- lennybird, on 07/04/2008, -2/+3This is exactly the reason why I never read anything about harry potter until I finished the last book. Dumbasses. Blocked and buried.
- dxgg, on 07/04/2008, -2/+2Lenny: Overreact much?
- lennybird, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1dxgg: Well it is pretty inconsiderate. It does ruin the story quite a bit when you haven't read it. All I'm saying is I'd be extremely pissed off had I read this and not finished the series.
- veganpa, on 07/04/2008, -1/+10What khoa said -- they have totally messed up the movies' Dumbledore. He is not so out of control, etc. Have they even read the books?
Oldman rules (ruled), though! - destron, on 07/04/2008, -3/+8I'm indifferent. I read the books but I really can't say I care about the movies. The first two (movies) were bloody awful and that's kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.
- ericjohnson0, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2Well, we'll see how this goes. Other folks are commenting that what was once a great family film franchise and now they're not sure.

- dxgg, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2Isn't the answer obvious?
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/04/2008, -10/+4Will they finally get one of these films right? Doubtful. They did well with Order of the Phoenix but I was still heavily disappointed. They managed to get some things right (the final battle between Gandalf and Voldemort and the casting of Helen Bonham Carter (sp?) as Bellatrix, for example) which is more than I can really say for the first films. Here's to hoping the final two stories (three films) are amazing.
- ericjohnson0, on 07/04/2008, -0/+18Gandalf...? Never knew HE went to Hogwarts...
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2Wow. My head is elsewhere. Dumbledore. I suck. lol
- iticu, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3No, he did, but Dumbledore was totally like; "YOU SHALL NOT PASS."
So he did the sane thing and dueled Voldemort.
- ericjohnson0, on 07/04/2008, -0/+18Gandalf...? Never knew HE went to Hogwarts...
- twertyto, on 07/04/2008, -15/+3Harry Potter is a disgrace to fantasy adventure.
- ScionX, on 07/04/2008, -10/+1I thought the last HP book was the last one?
Edit: nevermind, old book, new movie.
Misunderstood. - potterboy, on 07/04/2008, -1/+7My only question is where is the teaser trailer?
- jcaffoe, on 07/04/2008, -0/+15Alfonso Cuaron's take on the Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favorite films, period. I wish they would have gotten him back for one of the later, darker parts of the series.
- jugglingjon, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Prisoner of Azkaban was great, but the final scenes (Department of Mysteries, Dumbledore vs Voldemort, Harry's possession) of Order of the Phoenix were just awesome. I'm pretty happy with Yates just based on that.

- a1cd, on 07/04/2008, -4/+1I found the 5th movie pretty long and boring, and I am a fan of the books... hopefully this one will be better
- mult1task, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1It was the shortest movie so far and it was adapted from the longest book. The book its self was too long, I think the movie did a good job at getting the point across while keeping it fun.
- Stormwern, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7They stuck with David Yates for the last two?? Worst director they've had on the project, wish they'd have brought back Curaron or Newell instead.
- mult1task, on 07/04/2008, -2/+3No, Columbus was the worst director on the project, the movies felt like someone had video taped a play. I wasn't a fan of Newell, he seemed like he didn't understand the characters very well. Yates is a good choice for the next movies, but Curaron did do an amazing job, I would of liked to see either Curaron or Yates finish the series, so I am happy with their choice.
- MalusMalo, on 07/04/2008, -10/+2Harry Potter is overrated.

http://smashum.com/first-look-at-harry-potter-and- ... - shadowangel26, on 07/04/2008, -2/+2Okay first off what is this about letting the movies stand on their own.
They are suppose to follow the book not divert.
They need to stop changing the story. There's a reason the book is as famous as it is.
Just follow and do it properly for once geez.- tony23, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Just wondering: How many successful book-to-movie adaptations have YOU done?
- jedisushi, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2That article was very poorly written. Like, it was total crap. But I'm happy to read any news about the upcoming HP films. But it is nice when it's above a 5th grade level...

- bjs3171, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2The last film was definitely the best one so far. They finally stopped trying to be cute and "look how MAGICAL the place is!" and just told the story, with the magic staying in the background, like it should. I'd say the series biggest problem is that Malfoy's actor is just bad. they can't get any complexity out of his character because it.
btw, that article was written like some retarded house wife's blog. - pigducksheep, on 07/04/2008, -0/+23, 4, and 5 have been great i think, because 1 and 2 were just silly and the actors were too young. I do wish they could put a lot more, but it's only movies. Peeves has yet to be included :( I always read the books over again before the movies and notice every detail missing.
- Vodd9, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1They better find a new director because the previous movies (4 and 5 and maybe 3, I'm not sure..) sucked ass.
- ZedoMann, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1YES!!
- Fawkes, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2I thought glasses were supposed to have lenses
- bshock, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2I just saw "Order of the Phoenix" on HBO a few weeks ago. It was disastrous. The characters were unlikable, the story was boring, the plot was very, very thin. I've read the novels, so I know that "The Half-Blood Prince" exaggerates these negative characteristics even further. In the end, you ask yourself, "Why did I read this?" If you are so gullible as to see the film version, you will certainly ask, "Why did I waste my money on this?"
- gregnorc, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2I thought it was good. I mainly am looking forward to some actual battles in this and the seventh movie... especially the seventh move: no more pussyfooting around, they're out for blood.
- bjs3171, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2funny. Order of the Phoenix was my favorite one. I thought Umbridge was portrayed perfectly. The Dumbledore's Army thing was very well done, and exciting. And the final showdown was awesome. I also thought the script managed to cover most of the important plot points, cutting out the right stuff, and leaving the right stuff. I'm not a Harry Potter freak, but I've read the books all once each. I'm sure there's plenty of stuff i don't remember, therefore not missing them in the movie, but as it's own work, i thought the last one was the best one.
- Zilk, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Whoa. Ron's muscles exploded *pukes*
- darlyn, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Holy *****, I never intended to look a the pictures, but I went back to make sure. That is NOT the Ronald described in the books...

- ZGambit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3OK like a lot of people I have read the books and seen the movies....
The best comments about answering this question are from? ccarlson22, Hockey13,
@shadowangel26 you have a point but as the harry potter films have been very mixed with storyline consistency like Hockey said in the previous movies I find this difficult.
If I can go back to the previous film Order of Phonex I want to highlight the fight scene between Dumbledore vs Voldemort - This was an awesome battle despite the changes they made from the book. I think they should follow this however they need to increase Apparation ability more as we saw with the Deatheaters vs the Order. The Battle of Hogwarts needs to be EPIC.
In this movie
If this movie is to be a success it needs to build on Horcruxes, Tom Riddle, the relationships in Hogwarts: Ginny-Harry, Hermonie-Ron-Lavender Brown and Harry-Dumbledore.
Slughorn is another main character for this book..lets hope he turns out to be a good choice
Some Behind action with Snape-Malfoy- Malfoy deliberately does not get Snapes assistance, Unbreakable Vow, Death of Dumbledore. Malfoy must be focused as the evil character and he needs his own scenes to support the his efforts to destroy Hogwarts. I ha
Ok I have put my thoughts in please guys I am sure I have not put everything in soo by all means to add more to list I mentioned
