- TheHayze, on 01/25/2008, -4/+34Simply another example why the MPAA/RIAA's days are numbered. Their business model will not survive the decade, I don't think.
- elitistmusician, on 01/25/2008, -1/+25Because we're young, brash and have more sex than they do.
- seanhive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+24Because not only are we the biggest pirates, but we're the future.
- SemiSarcastic, on 01/25/2008, -1/+22THOSE CRAZY KIDS AND THEIR BIT TORRENTS!
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+18Because college kids are poor, college kids like free things, and college kids like music. Ergo, it's not that hard to figure out. :-p
- Andy.D, on 01/25/2008, -5/+22This is stupid. The RIAA doesn't like anyone but themselves. Grandmothers, single mothers, people who don't even like music. They don't have special hate for college students. They're pretty much an equal-opportunity ***** organization.
- synaesthesia, on 01/25/2008, -0/+12...We?
- Matri, on 01/25/2008, -0/+12...Sex?
- raisinbrainMMM, on 01/25/2008, -2/+13When I clicked this link my browser just prefilled this textbox with the following text:
***** the RIAA! - mpn401, on 01/25/2008, -0/+9...Have?
- mattwalton56, on 01/25/2008, -0/+8THEY BETTER GET OFF MY LAWN!
- DonJohnTom, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8the world can't stand the mpaa and the riaa so......their ya go
- Newsdude, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7Seems more like: If you like to watch movies and listen to music - The MPAA and RIAA hate you!
- astmanager, on 01/25/2008, -2/+9A slightly meandering but apt look at why the MPAA/RIAA are so anti-college student. Really, the part that I find remarkable is how one-sided this hate relationship is. That said, if the MPAA/RIAA continue on this path, I really hope the majority of 18-25 year-olds wake up to it and return the disdain.
- DephexTwin, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6I'm sure 18-25 year olds are by far the most active on the Internet as a whole, as well.
- actorboy, on 01/25/2008, -2/+8Ah, a true gentleman: steal content, let someone else bear the cost and hassle of proving themselves innocent.
- heroesdietrying, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6Obligatory ***** the RIAA.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6You've got it backwards. They hate the age group that contains people who know how to pirate, and they don't care if they pirate or not.
- thegrimreaper3, on 01/25/2008, -0/+5I was personally target by them this past year (fall 2007). I was downloading.. something.. online while at campus. I wholeheartedly believe that because the IP ranges of colleges are publicly known, it is extremely easy for them to just monitor the IP's. I was caught by a company called Bay-TSP, which works for the RIAA/MPAA. Bay-TSP contacted my university, PSU, and informed them of my infraction. I was told to write a simple paper on the university policy about copyright infringement and was sent on my merry way. So now i just chose not to download on campus where there is a much higher chance of being suspected.
- mal1964, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Because college kids were filling their pockets full of money at one time, I think they miss it.
- Juaquin, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Maybe they hate us because we're smarter than them. I mean, anyone who would even begin to try to control the internet must be stupid, insane, or Google.
- stormgren, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Two words: Direct Connect.
- MikeinLoFi, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4To be fair I'm sure 18-25 year olds pirate the most material. I've been on many different forums and I've sometimes seen polls asking it's members for it's age range (including OiNK) and the age was significantly skewed to the younger age groups. Regardless, the RIAA needs to shut up and adapt rather than sue people for thousands of dollars music artists aren't even going to see.
- TBagwell, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3the top stories list is like a broken record
- MtheoryX, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Wow! With that one comment, you've solidified the idea of "anti-intellectualism" Congrats.
- Spamiclese, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Is it me or does It look like submitter stopped caring towards the last part of the submission?

- Culero, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2LOUD NOISES!
- shark72, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Tomorrow on Digg: "Why do car companies, liquor companies and credit card companies market to college students?"
This and other compelling articles in "Duh" magazine. - arpnuke, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2http://dtella.org/
- Culero, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3THEY MUST BE ON THE POT!
- Wahoo06, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Seriously? Hasn't this been going on for a few years now? Seems to me your prediction seems a bit unlikely
- MrSteamTank, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Exactly! Don't worry though. Downloading large files will become a thing of the past in North America when the telecoms roll out there "charge per mbs used" rates. The rest of the world will still pirate with ease but North America(Canada and US) will get screwed as usual. 8P
- houndeyex, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1"Brick"...?
- Providence, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Just go to preferences of whatever Torrent client you're running, and turn on encryption. RC4 is good enough. My roommates have been torrenting all last semester. I just started, and we've had no problems.
- allisonaxe, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1...Than?
- actorboy, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2That's because you wasted all your money on an economics class that taught you $3000 is less than 99¢
- ikrit2006, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Damn violaors
- otw7, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1It seems very similar
- houndeyex, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1lol, right on.
- ventralnet, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1They care because college students have access to high bandwidth networks.... there is NOTHING else to it
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Digg only allows 15 characters, not 16 like everywhere else. Anywhere else I use it, it has the c.
And I wasn't being a grammar nazi. - allisonaxe, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1have you tried using the power of the sun?
- solid12345, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Maybe because college students are still young, naive, and think they are invincible and download gigs-upon-gigs of crap while adults who have money actually buy music?
If you look at the top seeds of music on thepiratebay, you see the likes of 50 cent, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, the Juno soundtrack. It obviously isn't middle-aged people who are the ones downloading. - wingman42, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Maybe if the MPAA/RIAA spent their money creating new business models instead of suing everyone with an Internet connection and computer, they could have figured out how to make money off of college students.
- dillibob, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1iunno both of them are pretty ***** companies, but the riaa is far worst in my mind. it goes after the weak and easy targets, but at least the mpaa mostly goes after the hosts of the pirating sites
- geeke, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1lol@ jo21 bragging about it on the internet how ***** sad!
- actorboy, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Do you have this common sense you speak so highly of? If so, please offer up a legitimate model that will get people to pay for music when they are perfectly willing to risk thousands of dollars in fines just to get a 99¢ song for free. Common sense will tell you that affordable doesn't compete with free, and that common sense doesn't work on people that have none.
But please, PLEASE, suggest a viable business model that will work that doesn't involve "free". After all, getting people to pay is what we're talking about. Consider it my challenge to you, Mr. I-got-common-sense. I don't think you can do it. -
