- Nathrat, on 11/06/2008, -1/+37I'll tell you who shouldn't, the guy that made Congo.
- mofw, on 11/06/2008, -0/+23No one.
- voodoogork, on 11/06/2008, -0/+14I loved Prey I think it would make a great movie!
- mecole21, on 11/06/2008, -1/+11Spielberg... he's the only one who got it right...
- bradhart2, on 11/07/2008, -1/+11Why does everyone think it necessary to make a movie. Read the damned book be happy with it.
- falstaff, on 11/07/2008, -1/+10Airframe and Prey: Absolutely
State of Fear: Could be done, but it was pretty preachy. Not really big-screen material.
Next: I say this as his biggest fan...total garbage. Perhaps a good director could make all the stories come together, but the book as written was, by far, his weakest. - hughesj919, on 11/06/2008, -0/+9Stone Him!
- jumboshrimp11, on 11/07/2008, -1/+9I think that Prey has the potential to be a fantastic movie. Honestly, what's cooler than a sentient swarm of nano-robots going on a killing frenzy?
- shcon, on 11/07/2008, -0/+8Jurassic Park was amazing... but I'd like to see the first book remade exactly as it was in the book! Two T-rex's, Rocket-launchers, Pterodactyls, the works... including the nuclear finale when the island gets microwaved. The movie was good... the book was better. As a final tribute, why not make a definitive version of the Jurassic Park book?
There are plenty of great adaptations and acurate ones nowadays... - raskali, on 11/07/2008, -0/+7State of Fear will never be made into a movie.
- Kanten, on 11/07/2008, -0/+7It's Timeline, not Timeframe. :P
- angelczek, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7Mc G!
- Cfahooligan, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7Crichton only has one more novel set for release. So far that we know of. Dec. 2 should be the release date. ER is done. And I haven't heard of any more of his novels being set for the big screen. There are books left but no word on whether they will be done or not. I suppose now that he has died they may want to make them.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+6Oliver Stone should direct Airframe.
- aspec, on 11/06/2008, -3/+8Michael Bay.
/Please don't shoot me. - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+5Michael Crichton doesmnt have a book called "Timeframe", the name is "Timeline". Not that there is such a huge difference, but it suggests Rollic and the guy who wrote the article are both talking out of their asses.
- Fabbyfubz, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5Christopher Nolan
- flxfxp, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4RIP my friend. 1942 - 2008.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3I think that's possibly a fortunate thing. Science aside.
It was fun, but the plot was a little over the top. If it was made into a movie it'd be kinda like Con-Air while that would ordinarily be great, I think the thought that went into it deserves better. - Pandalume, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3It's been done: The 13th Warrior
- Loopholes, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3They pushed back his last book to May 9th, 2009
- bwales89, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3This guy named Steven Spielberg was pretty good.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3Aside from Jurrasic Park, the movies based on his books have universally sucked or been pretty mediocre.
I've enjoyed all of his books though. - joegibes, on 11/07/2008, -1/+3Or the guy who made Sphere.
- mrdeathgod, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2I would love to see Shane Carruth direct Prey...
- mu0p, on 11/07/2008, -0/+2Lets no forget the amazing Westworld!
One of my favorites!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070909/ - Cfahooligan, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2I did read the article. But there are no plans for any of these books being turned in to films as of yet. The only thing set is Jurrassic Park 4 that he wrote. The script is up but no word on when yet. And Westworld has been pitched.
- GlitchEnzo, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1I would love to see Shane Carruth make ANYTHING new.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1You'd need Jeff Goldblum though.
- Digglu, on 11/07/2008, -2/+3Zombie Michael Crichton.
- Turkman182, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1I was wondering if someone was going to point out the lack of quality of his last few books. Thanks. I did enjoy reading them all, as I did most of Crichton's books, but they certainly weren't his best.
That being said, every book he's ever written has been filmed (more or less) as this article points out and I thought it was interesting to read some opinions on how people might think movies of tose books might turn out. Pretty entertaining article I would say. - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -2/+3Peter Jackson - Eaters of the Dead.
I know its not his final novel... just an opinion.. - Rollic, on 11/06/2008, -1/+2I think this feature is about his four most recent novels - aside from Timeframe - which are his only novels (written under his own name) that haven't been turned into movies yet.
- bagboyrebel, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1What was wrong with the movie?
- Ph03N1X418, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1No *****..
"hey, what's the best way to make a buck off this guy's passing?" - Silverskater145, on 11/07/2008, -1/+2And of course, those "ideological problems" didn't have anything to do with the books' criticism.
- bagboyrebel, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Because sometimes it's fun to see our favorite stories in a different medium. It's not like it hurts anyone to have the movie made.
- ibatman, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Spielberg should take one of them on.
- bradhart2, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Sure it hurts people think of all those people who now have a ***** movie attached to their names. Think about the potential impact on some young hot actress we will want to see more of in the future but her one big shot at a future of enticing men everywhere was blown by having a role in a failed Michael Crichton adaptation...
- teethandeyes, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Damn, no love for John Waters?
- IndustrialJones, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1I loved the book, but I'm thinking a movie won't be able to do it justice. Nobody has nailed Crichton's books on-screen except for Speilburg with Jurassic Park. Timeline was one of my favorite books and the movie was an absolute horror.
- bluekangaroo, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Ever see Andromeda Strain?
- natters, on 11/12/2008, -0/+0It's soo sad. He was sooo talented....hopefully he is represented well!
- lastmaster, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1Pauly Shore.
- Po0py, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1I tried to read Airframe when it came out many years ago. It was so bogged down in technobabble that I had to give up half way through. I can't see how it could be made into a movie.
- unknownpoltroon, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1WHos best at filimg people sitting on surfaces with gradualy spreading cracks over a yawning abyss?? Its in all his later movies.
- natters, on 11/12/2008, -0/+0It's soo sad. He was sooo talented....hopefully he is represented well!
- drumrolfe, on 11/07/2008, -0/+0I'll tell you who also shouldn't make his movies. The director that did "Timeline", Richard Donnor. Way to ruin an awesome book.
- bshock, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1Nobody. None of this hack's pathetic work deserves broader exposure.
- frieddonuts, on 11/06/2008, -7/+7I wouldn't recommend State of Fear be revisited. Besides the ideological problems I have with his climate skepticism, the book itself was poorly plotted and contrived, with forgettable characters and an anticlimactic, confusing ending. Really a major misstep for him in my opinion.
