- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seriously good news for fans of Firefly/Serenity. I watched the entire boxed DVD set of Firefly AND the movie Serenity in 3 days and have a voracious appetite for more!
- slmcdee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like Firefly, because of the cool mix of Old West meets New Space. What's better than a bunch of Pistol Toting, Warp Driving, Raggedy Ship Repairing, Space Pirates.
Sci Friday Night Line Up:
FireFly, SG1, Atlantis, Galactica - duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Season 2 of Firefly would make SciFi Friday PERFECT!
SG1
Firefly
Atlantis
Battlestar Galactica
It doesn't get much better than that! - CoSMoSYS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Shiny
- Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Take my love. Take my land.
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free.
You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black.
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back.
Burn the land And boil the sea.
You can't take the sky from me.
Have no place I can be since I found Serenity.
But you can't take the sky from me. - HoGiHung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, if it does come back to TV, it needs to have a time line prior to the movie. Although I like both, there are certain events that occurred in the movie that I do not like. Won't spoil them here.
Now, if only Jewel would get a divorce..... - VoxMagis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had never seen the TV series, and actually knew nothing about it - just never found the time.
I skipped the movie in theatres, but my kids went and loved it, so I watched it the other night.
My opinion? One of the best SciFi movies I've seen, including (original) Star Wars, Alien, 2001, etc. It's not that it had some earth-shaking 'new' thing about it, it's just that it was good solid space opera. - RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The TV series was the best sci-fi has to offer. Not saying it was better than other series, we all have our favourites but as far as concept, executing, storylines, acting and consistency goes, the series had it all.
The film was a joy for me, to see the characters breathing again. I hope there is a full series 2 but I'm thinking after the mediocre movie (in terms of sales, not quality) a full on series will be hard to sell.
To anyone that didn't enjoy the movie that hadn't seen the TV series. I don't think seeing the series would have changed your mind. I guess there is something about it that appeals to a more niche market. It doesn't take the moral high ground that Star trek takes, it's a lot more gritty and earthy than something like Farscape. It's a lot richer than something like Battlestar Gallactica but lacks the more intricate story arc that makes that (and Babylon 5) so outstanding. - deathBOB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Holy crap! When is "Big Smash Bang with Boobies" coming out? It sounds awesome!
- mikeandamy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think Firefly is defiantly one of the most original sci fi ideas in a long time . Also I think that the more people are exposed to it the more larger it's fan base will grow.Sci Fi channel should jump on this.
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope they return it to TV and ignore the movie like it never happened. For obvious reasons that I won't say due to spoilers and so forth.
- paulmetzger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they did direct to dvd I'd pay up to $10 per hour long episode
- KriTenKs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope it does come back
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I agree, if it does come back to TV, it needs to have a time line prior to the movie."
Impossible. If you have done any research, you'd know that Serenity is set roughly 6 MONTHS after "Objects in Space". To try to slam a whole season in 6 months with a series like Firefly would just screw the whole thing up. No go.
Digg for the interview, though. (/me prays for more Firefly) - HoGiHung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The people in charge of TV programming seem to think everyone wants shows like American Idol, Survivor, The Apprentice. They fail to realize there actually is an audience of intelligent people out there. When Firefly was originally aired, I seldom heard of it. And my local channel played it very late - similar to Enterprise (11pm/12am est).
Bought the DVD set after reading a post about it. One of the best shows I've ever seen. The movie as well.
Ho... - zamecca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah the weird thing about firefly was that i had never even heard about it until after it had come and gone... and i watch a lot of tv especially sci-fi shows and i was surprised i hadn't heard of it.. the PR for it must have been horrible.. as soon as i did hear about it i d/l all the episodes and loved it... and the movie was great....
- supperman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Firefly is the perfect anti-thesis to horribly heavy stuff like Battlestar Galatica; it should be named West Wing in space. It suits me in more pensive moods, but if I need to get out of the funk, I'll go for Firefly. Plus Inarra is such a babe!!!
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome! I hope it does get back on TV.
It really needs a chance.
They wanted to cancel Buffy and Angel soon after they premiered. Those shows ended up being amazing. - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@sidewalkpilot - blocked
Guess I'll go out and pick up a Serenity DVD. Already have the Firefly Season 1 set. - Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can't take the sky from me!
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really enjoyed the sci-fi channels Triangle mini series, havent seen the ones you mention though chrislhardin.
As far as another Star Trek goes, there really is only one series to bring back, the next generation. Picard gets cloned in the first episode and we find out that the borg are really descended from Digg users :O - jlbraun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Downloaded complete first season. Downloaded movie. Watched both. Bought complete first season DVD. Bought movie DVD.
More Firefly, please! - StarWarsFever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best show in a long long time. Met Adam Baldwin at a Con here in atlanta... along w/ Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, and Ron Glass. Awesome Awesome people. Those guys deserve to have this role...
Don't take the sky form them - Jeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can only hope that it does return.. an amazing series. We need to convert more over to our side :P
- duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Tell me you tivo everything and do not stay in every friday!!!"
EVERY Friday there is new episodes, YES! Then we go out and party. And I TiVo it as well :-) - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would make Sci-Fi Friday perfect!!!!
Firefly
SG-1
Atlantis
Galatica - Shoebox639, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn capitalism!!! Firefly would totally rock in the a society where the first goal of anything is NOT to make money.
"Curse you sudden but inevitable betrayal!" - RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Duke_nate I can't really agree that River was like buffy other than she kicked some ass occassionally. The two characters are wildly different. But I did always think the River character was never really developed far enough. We only got tastes in the series of who River was and the movie just rushed it a little too much.
I'm betting that Wheddon had series 2 in mind for exploring River properly. Just conjecture there though. - mipobajo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought the movie Serenity first and then the series. I absolutely love it though I never heard of it when it came out. I love the characers, the music, the ship, the dialogue, the stories and even the western theme. I really think it should be brought back. My kids love it too. We have watched all the episodes at least twice and are hungry for more!
- frodov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Brilliant! I do hope Whedon never gets too discouraged about all the politics he must have to go through to get it back on the air. If he can hold out and if the networks can get half a brain, it'll all be worth it for everyone. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0New to series , I was hooked, not hooked like FarScape or BSG hooked, but even more so, the show for some reason just makes itslef stand out more so then others, and oh yah, i love run on sentences.
- anansi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least Serenity didn't lose money. I heard that with the international box office, it managed to break even so all the DVD sales were a profit for Universal. That can't hurt make the temptation for a new Firefly season.
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Joss Whedon was the guy responsible for Buffy the vampire slayer which everyone pretended to hate but secretly loved, I know you wont admit it here :p
He also did Angel, which I particularly enjoyed. He's done a lot of sci-fi related stuff over the years and I think his next big thing is going to be wonder woman for the big screen. - craigm01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SHINY!
- chrislhardin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Screw Galactica and dump Atlantis, bribe RDA to come back to SG-1, put Firefly back on and for God's sake put a good Star Trek title back on the air.
Firefly
SG-1 with RDA and without ORI
Star Trek something bad ass - Robinh66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shiny! Joss is my master now.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hot damn!
Seeing Serenity as a new series would just plain make my life happier. I've been groaning and brooding over the cancellations and poor box office results and I think my girlfriend has had enough of it. The loss of this property to the Oblivion of cancellation is a pity and a serious miscalculation on the part of the studio. Every day that passes, a new browncoat jumps on board, and our numbers just grow.
This is one of those gems that may not have immediately garnered the kind of success they were looking for, but was truly something that could have soared. No matter what happens (and god, I do hope they can rekindle something out of it) - the legacy of Firefly and Serenity will be that of the unique, exciting new vision that could have been grand. It would have been the next Star Wars, Star Trek, or more than likely... better.
Here's to the future, browncoats. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought the series at Walmart thanks to a digg story a couple of weeks ago, and it makes me wish i hadn't passed on the free sneak peek passes i had when they did that blog promo.
I'm not even a sci-fi fan really (Star Wars and Hitchhiker's Guide are pretty much the extent of my liking), I love wit writing and humour, and firefly comes through on all accounts. Thanks for tipping me off (albeit, tipping me off with a front page story every other day) about this series :-) - bigboehmboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PLEASE bring back Firefly!! I've gotten about 5 friends addicted to the show, and spreading the word as fast as I can. It is such a great scifi show!!! Anyways enough of this inane rambling. If he announces a season 2, the power of fans will be awesome. I just saw an article where firefly fans were trying to raise the 24 million dollars necessary to make another season by themself. Obviously that wouldn't happen, but i'll bet they could raise millions. Not to mention the number of people who would be pushed into watching by browncoats.
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Id definetly help incite the Diggarmy to go after promoting this one. :D
- Crazen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I missed Firefly when it was on a TV, a friend highly recommended the series and let me watch it. After a few days of watching the movie, I went out bought the series for myself and a couple as gifts. It truely is very well done, and the TV execs should give it a chance.
I will definatley be watching it on TV if it comes out again. - sniper668, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who's Joss Whedon?
- phated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg. We need more Firefly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think we actually made it past one day without a new Firefly/Serenity post on the front page. That may be a record.
- TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wanted more Firefly after the series, and I loved the movie, but I think it was a good way to end it. After what happens in the movie if tried to continue it would be quite different anyway (I won't say why because it seems some people here haven't seen it yet, shame on them), and I would rather have it end than have them try to continue just for the sake of continuing it. I'm happy with Serenity being the finish to the series. At least there actually was one, and it was good.
- jccalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldn't mind seeing Firefly come back. But I also didn't mind seeing Stargate come back last week. I didn't really pine away for it and I didn't miss it, but it was something to watch.
I really really don't understand why people love Whedon so much. I find his work to be so very very average. Not bad, but certainly not as good as people seem to make it out to be. - KIKAYA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One of the sweetest sci-fi shows ever, can't get enough!!!!!!!!!!!!
- chrislhardin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0one more thought. If SCI-FI would stop making these original POS shows on Sat night, they could afford better series adaptations. Who in the Hell cares about Boa 12, Viper 6 or a pathetic adaptation of War of the Worlds
- jomom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would seriously kick ass!!!
- Weezy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Also, I can kill you with my mind."
Lol. I watched the movie, liked it, and borrowed the show off my friend. Great show, I hope they uncancel it and have it be before the movie in the timeline. -
