- rupric, on 01/13/2009, -9/+40I love Shatner but I'm glad he is not in it. I am hoping for a whole new feel for this Star Trek movie and Shatner would just mess that all up.
- pitchblack16, on 01/13/2009, -12/+39I, for one, would have loved a Shatner cameo, it just won't feel like Star Trek without Shatner.
- sockpuppets, on 01/14/2009, -3/+28William Shatner does a cameo when the crew tries to get tickets on the maiden voyage. The priceline negotiator gets them on board.
- superterrorizer, on 01/14/2009, -0/+22Simon Pegg is Scotty. There's no more that needs to be said. that's worth the 9$ on opening night to me.
- Spoomeister, on 01/14/2009, -4/+21Kirk doesn't know how to drive a car. Established that in the episode "A Piece of the Action".
As soon as I saw a tween Kirk driving a car off a cliff, I knew this wasn't a Star Trek movie.
A decent summer blockbuster, maybe.
A decent sci-fi film, entirely possible.
A quirky unintentional parody of Star Trek (Simon Pegg imitating Scotty), if it goes wrong.
But it won't be a Star Trek movie.
Wrath of Khan.
Search for Spock.
Voyage Home.
Undiscovered Country.
That right there are all the Star Trek movies you need.
This... whatever-it-is... is its own thing. - WhoDoneIt, on 01/14/2009, -0/+16Would you settle for a Priceline.com commercial at the beginning of the flick? :)
- cubicledrone, on 01/14/2009, -7/+22Here's what we know about the Star Trek film:
1. They will put Borg in it. They can't resist. This time it will be the Borg King. His name? Trellane.
2. There won't be any fistfights where Kirk overturns furniture. Therefore it will only be a pale imitation of Kirk.
3. There will be at least one massive, asscramping retcon related to ship technology.
4. Spock won't to peer into the science station rangefinder with that ultra-cool sound effect and the blue glow. Fail.
5. Kirk will never say "explain" in response to a theory. Also fail.
6. Spock will say "Fascinating" but then someone will do something ***** stupid to emphasize it, thus making it a "Qui-Gon grabs Jar-Jar's tongue" moment.
7. All kinds of original series ***** will make it into the backgrounds like Tribbles and chess sets. No alcohol, though. *****.
8. They'll do something over-the-top about a red shirt security guy getting killed, then do something ***** stupid to emphasize it so everyone will chuckle and golf clap and congratulate them for getting an interweb joke.
9. Rank insignia (and rank in general) will be a massive sweaty-assed inaccurate *****.
10. The red alert sound will be accurate, but the indicator next to the turbolift won't, and it is guaranteed they won't put the little triangular one on the helm with the different sound effect. Complete fail. - Heywoodj, on 01/14/2009, -0/+14Bring it on!
If the years since Enterprise's cancellation has taught me anything its bad star trek is better then no star trek.
/Fan since 1969
//Yeah get off my AstroTurf. - pitchblack16, on 01/13/2009, -1/+13Do you mean Sylar?
- rafe101, on 01/13/2009, -1/+11I'm not sure who the author was talking about. My sister once had a dog named Skylar. I'm not sure if Phil means that Spock looks like a dog. I'm not even sure if Phil knows my sister.
- eyelark, on 01/14/2009, -1/+10no First Contact? shame on you.
- c64glen, on 01/13/2009, -8/+17Buried for "Trek is in good hands with writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci scripting"
Idiots. - michaelpinto, on 01/13/2009, -4/+12rupric how can you say that?! With the right director and a walk on role it can be made to work — hell give the guy a voice over at least...
- Treshnell, on 01/14/2009, -0/+8It's all about TNG.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClP8n6asn3w - digiguy, on 01/14/2009, -1/+8Star Trek is shown 24/7 on

- badassdave, on 01/14/2009, -5/+12Never been trek fan, but the trailer has definitely got me interested.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -1/+8The classic uniforms are part of what makes it Star Trek, d00d. Along with the sound effects and terminology. If they totally rebooted it, it wouldn't really be star trek any more.
- pitchblack16, on 01/13/2009, -0/+7Future James T. Kirk just like Nimoy is future Spock, or future hologram of James T. Kirk cause I'm guessing Spock ages slower than humans making him outlive his best friend James T. Kirk thus the hologram of future James T. Kirk, you still with me, lol, now I'm hoping for a Trekkie to give me all the info I need.
- digiguy, on 01/14/2009, -0/+7so why are wasting you time commenting?
- frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -0/+7With any luck and a whole lot of production dollars, this film should be a reinvention up there with Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise. It'll be what Wrath of Khan was for TOS. If not ...well, then, all is lost ...
- BurningSand, on 01/13/2009, -1/+8Yep, gotta have The Shat!
- newl, on 01/14/2009, -0/+7Denny Crane!
- scoottie, on 01/14/2009, -4/+10this new one is best described as Star Trek 90210
- cubicledrone, on 01/14/2009, -0/+6Mamby pamby.
- rafe101, on 01/13/2009, -7/+13"Skylar?"
- Dumbledorito, on 01/14/2009, -4/+10I wish they'd ditched the "classic" uniforms. I wish the bridge didn't look like it was built by Apple. And I wish they hadn't tied it into the rest of the franchise via time travel.
They had a chance to jettison all the cheesy stuff that Trek built up over the years (planets of Nazis, Voyager, Star Trek V, etc.) and get a new take on it but I fear they just want to "remake" and not "reboot." - inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+6i dugg you down. Now what Bitch....
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+6The last season of Enterprise was actually very good. When they got rid of Rick ***** Berman & Brannon Braga it improved a lot.
- RobotBuddha, on 01/14/2009, -0/+6That casting is starting to make a lot more sense. I mentioned that to my girlfriend, who has no interest in the franchise, and she was instantly interested.
- Heywoodj, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5I agree. When it finally looked like it was going someplace it went away.
- BlackApple, on 01/14/2009, -1/+6bring back TNG cast make more movies
- digiguy, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5I agree with you, I saw "Piece of the Action" and saw he can't drive a car, but in the new Movie, he drives a car like a pro. Lame
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5No need to be so personally rude, the guy was just joking around, for *****'s sake.
p.s. he's referring to the prism-like light on Sulu's console, http://farm1.static.flickr.com/209/512152866_030e5 ... - wolferz, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5@pitchblack16 and because i'm bored
Spock does live much longer than kirk... but thats partly because Kirk dies when the Enterprise B gets clawed at by The Nexus (Star Trek: Generation). He would have outlived him regardless though... as he is both still alive in The Next Generation series (as well as his vulcan father Sarek) which takes place some 70 years after kirk was already entering retirement age and is also looking quite a bit younger during TNG than in this movie.
It's even possible Spock is from a future where Picard is dead of old age too. Vulcans are remarkably long lived... even half human ones.
And yes I think I have just ensured I will never be able to deflect claims that I am a Trekkie ever again.
btw... nicely done... you just pointed out the huge continuity error having old Kirk time traveling with Spock would create... even if the events of "Star Trek: Generations" were treated as non-canon Kirk couldn't have possibly lived long enough for Spock to look as old as he does now and time travel with him. You would need a separate explanation for why Kirk traveled back separately... never mind that for Spock to know not only that something up but what specifically somethign about the past would have had to have already changed... meaning an explanation for older Kirk being alive would be likely be needed as well. - RobotBuddha, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5"1. "
I'm so, so, sad that I actually knew enough about trek to laugh at that. On the other hand, I got an interweb joke, so go me! - inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5Time line's been altered, dude. In this time line, Kirk fell into a series of events that allowed him to learn to drive a late 20th century car.
Even without that rather easy explanation, his unfamiliarity with the flivver in A Piece of the Action may simply have been because it was a very old model, and they are somewhat different to control than a 1960s Corvette. In addition, the car in that episode was an *alien copy* of a 1920s vehicle. That species got all its info from one human book, and it's doubtful that book contained a detailed blueprint of a true Earth car from that era, so it may operate in a completely different manner than the real thing, n'est pas?
In any case, Young Kirk puts the 'Vette in a ***** canyon. You can't tell me that indicates he's a good driver. Quite consistent with him ***** up the gears on that alien car copy on some backwater planet 20 odd years later.
Even the original series contradicted itself many times, and TNG altered continuity from TOS, etc. The movies play a bit loose with continuity from the series, too. - superhope, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4They are on different planes of existence, you poor, misguided soul.
Separate planes where they individually kick ass. - eyelark, on 01/14/2009, -1/+5i can play that game too
FC: "I will not sacrifice the Enterprise. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And *I* will make them pay for what they've done."
Khan: "Let them eat static."
don't get me wrong i never meant to imply that khan was a bad movie or even that first contact was better, but first contact easily ranks up as one of the best trek movies. - flossdaily, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4That trailer got you interested BECAUSE you've never been a Trek fan.
This trailer was all about glamor and brawn, action-movie stunts, and young attractive people. It looks vapid and shallow.
Star Trek was always about humor, dialog and brains. I saw none of that in the trailer. - superhope, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4I squealed and then choked on my pop tart. I'm just a little excited.
- Hortnon, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4I had been looking for the words to describe it, and a friend beat me to it:
"Star Trek: 90210" - dlan4327, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4Crane. DENNY Crane.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4Danny Crane!
- Spoomeister, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4I think you missed my point.
- Shakermaker, on 01/14/2009, -1/+5This. I hate how this ***** guy thinks that because 40 years ago he played Kirk, he needs to be in every goddamn Trek movie.
You've had your turn, now you're old and irrelevant to the new movie, so go away.
It would have been akin to putting Adam West in the new Batman films.... - Bloodwine, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4First Contact did it pretty well in my opinion.
- slayerab, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4Or it could do what Superman Returns did to the Superman Franchise
- cubicledrone, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4Yes. Add to the list:
"They will destroy the Enterprise. Twice." - cmotdibbler, on 01/14/2009, -0/+311. There will be an auto-destruct sequence involved.
