- dvsbastard, on 09/03/2008, -4/+153Lucky you added "[The Dark Knight]" to the end of the already self explanatory title, or else I would have never known what movie this was about... [Digg Comment]
- dvsbastard, on 09/03/2008, -1/+98Don't you people understand?! Piracy is killing the film industry!
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+77It means piracy is irrelevant.
If the movie is ***** good, it will sell itself. This is proof. - gerrylazlo, on 09/02/2008, -0/+61Hopefully it makes producers realize big budget doesn't have to mean cookie cutter *****.
- umbriago, on 09/03/2008, -4/+48It means if they filmed a movie of Batman shoveling ***** for 90 minutes, it'd probably make $200 million.
- donkz, on 09/03/2008, -2/+45When they compare todays movies to Gone with the Wind by inflation they should also take into account that:
-it was probably the only movie that played for probably entire month
-first color movie
-there was no TV
-it was the only alternative to sitting on farm milking cows - NuttyVirus, on 09/03/2008, -1/+36It means that the jokers disappearing pencil majic trick paid off.
- rgon, on 09/03/2008, -0/+24Also, if you didn't see the movie in theaters you didn't see it. You couldn't wait for it on HBO or go rent it at Blockbuster. It was also released into theaters about 6 or 7 times. How about we compare The Dark Knight's first theatrical run with Gone With the Wind's first theatrical run in adjusted dollars?
- Slovenian6474, on 09/02/2008, -5/+27If you ask the producers it mean they didn't even make a profit.
- Devdude30, on 09/03/2008, -0/+21It means that they are pushing all their "bigger" movies (harry potter) to next year so that they don't lose stockholders to the change in profits.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -0/+17
There really isn't much insight in this article. - Bara, on 09/03/2008, -7/+22Even moreso if it was the ***** of Heath Ledger!
... Too soon? - kurupttek, on 09/03/2008, -2/+16I see what you did there [Seeing what the other Digger did!]
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/03/2008, -0/+12It means you can have a blockbuster with a risky, well written script.
But since most studio execs can't tell the difference between a poor script and a great one, nothing will change. - firebirdx01, on 09/03/2008, -0/+12I hope $500 mil means sequel with Nolan, Oldman, Caine, and Bale. That is all.
- herrshuster, on 09/03/2008, -3/+14And I would pay to watch it.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+9Why are people digging up personal opinion crap articles like this? Just because it mentions the Dark Knight? WTF people.
- DrunkenSavior, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8I care because it's exciting when something you consider 'of quality' becomes a financial success. You hope that it'll begin a trend towards making quality films because the market is very strong right now.
It's not about using the numbers to judge a film at all, to me.
P.S. This article sucks. If you wanna talk success in adjusted box office sales, The Dark Knight is the #1 comic book film of all time. Considering how successful those films have been presently, that's a really powerful statement in itself. - RaulMuadDib, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8Not soon enough.
- Skooma714, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7How is my life affected by some guys making a lot of money?
- angrytortilla, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7Batman made $500 million. What does this mean? At least 2 more sequels and a slew of new superheroes finding their way to film in a gritty, realistic manner.
See: Superman reboot rumours. - ZeroOrDie, on 09/03/2008, -4/+9It means death sells.
- Richandler, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6It means approximately 50 million people saw the movie.
- happyhacker09, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Agreed. That one caught me off guard but loved it.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -3/+7That's an utterly crap article.
no actually it's not an article but a memo to self on some points to raise in an article.
Waste of ***** time. aka blogspam from the Gawker network - happyhacker09, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Along with bad films being released right?
- appleofdischord, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Skippy, you're a tasteless ass-clown. Dugg down!
- fryguy1013, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3probably less than that, as many people have seen the movie multiple times.
- Ayavaron, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3I'm pretty sure your comment is useless either way.
- h4mx0r, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3Right in the kisser!
Am I doing it right? - woodyinthehoody, on 09/03/2008, -4/+6BUT HES A POW!!!!!!!
.. - minoss, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4I'm thinking movie studios will start hiring hits on their lead actors before release.
- RaulMuadDib, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4Best scene ever!
- bosssmiley, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Nah. Hollywood was built on "It worked before, let's do it again."
- dsmx, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2They've made there money back from making the film and the dvd and blu-ray sales is where the real money is made so how is that bad?
- Sefus, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Maybe it means, in a kind of subliminal way that people should finally stop posting about this ***** Batman movie?
- RaulMuadDib, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4Indiana Jones 4
- t3hmyth, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Uh... Yes they have.
- quinlan, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2nah, Jerry Mathers, as the Beaver.
- royalwcheese, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Still too soon.
- royalwcheese, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Nerd ALERT!
- dandonia, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1I was with you right until you slagged of two of my favorite movies of all time. But heres one reason why people like to see movies do well, sequals.
- whazdown, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Apparently Get Smart has grossed more..
http://digg.com/movies/Get_Smart_grosses_1_003_064 ... - TheUngod, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1...read the post in "offbeat" about most obnoxious commenters. Granted, this statement probably makes me one of them too.
- wtf00, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1To be honest.. I seen the movies 3 times already. 2 on my own and 1 with a cousin. My favorite scene the pencil trick...
- robwego, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1i wonder if robin is gonna be in the next one....if theres a next one?
- happyhacker09, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Yes, yes, and yes.
I do plan on purchasing The Dark Knight DVD as well. Actually, I'll keep an eye out for the director's cut/special release for all the extra footage. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Hint: considering piracy has always been around and will always be around, it's really a moot point and the sales numbers would've been the same either way.
Appears your logic isn't exactly top notch there, mister. - kjcdude, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1http://howies.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8676&page ...
It still amazes me that it beat the record by that much. -
