- rocknog, on 07/20/2009, -4/+62All of this bonus footage, and still no giant squid. Okay, okay, I've made peace with the lack of squid. Truthfully, what really made the ending fail was the lack of streets filled with bloody bodies. It was that which made you realize just how horrible Veidt's plan really was. Yeah, the squid was freaky, but that was just the icing on the cake. It could've worked without the squid, but it can't work without the bodies.
- mywhitenoise, on 07/20/2009, -4/+61Why would you buy a blu-ray player if you're playing the DVD?
- mywhitenoise, on 07/20/2009, -0/+34I don't care about the squid, I'm more pissed that they left out the dead bodies on the clock tower.
- AvatarofJustice, on 07/20/2009, -0/+31Your willingness to not drag your child into a theater and annoy the rest of us is much appreciated sir.
- inactive, on 09/13/2009, -6/+29I wonder what Snyder is going to say about Dr Manhattan's Giant Blue Junk.
- Sunsneezer, on 07/20/2009, -1/+22Again with the blue penis fixation. Remember the nude battle scene from Beowulf when they always go out of their way to hide the penis? How is that less distracting than an actual penis?
- Rudegar, on 07/20/2009, -0/+20would suck to have the blue penis burn in on a plasma screen :O
- Nollie2, on 07/20/2009, -2/+21You *couldn't* care less.
- SirBruce, on 07/20/2009, -1/+19I watched the Director's Cut yesterday. It's very good, although it's not really better or worse than the theatrical release. The movie is still slow in the middle (about 30 minutes originally, 50 minutes in the Director's Cut), but the beginning and the end are still awesome. You can see why the Hollis Mason death subplot was cut: terrible acting and dialog with the thugs, and on the phone, and then a scene in the bar later when Daniel learns about it that really adds little to the story.
Most of the restored footage is great, though, including several scenes of Silk Spectre dealing with the government after Dr. Manhattan goes to Mars and a few more glimpses of the newspaper stand. There's also more dialog between Hollis and Daniel, and I believe additional dialog between Dr. Manhattan and Laurie on Mars.
Inexplicable changes include a brief sequence where Dr. Manhattan teleports everyone else out of the television studio before teleporting himself to Mars (what's the pont?), and a different timing "The Times They Are A-Changin'" to the introduction, along with a different voiceover delivering Neil Armstrong's "Good Luck, Mr. Gorsky" line. But overall the additions improve the movie.
PS - I watched the "Hallelujah" scene in the Owlship over and over again about 5 times in a row just to make sure I didn't miss anything. - dalittle, on 07/20/2009, -3/+21I could careless about directory commentary extras, how much does the director's cut change the movie? Better?
- robdiggity, on 07/20/2009, -1/+18Well... you uhh... you got any rubber bands?
- ManUnitdFan, on 07/20/2009, -0/+15I don't care as much about the change they made to the ending so much as WHY they changed it. They said having all the bloody bodies lying in the streets of New York was just too much after 9/11.
At what point will 9/11 stop being a reason to not "shock" our sensibilities? I think that's utter *****. - fudsak, on 07/20/2009, -0/+15I do.
8========D - Stoyanov, on 07/20/2009, -1/+15Storylines flow at a slower pace and there are additional scenes, which make the overall film better. Also, watch out for Hollis Mason's death. It is magnificent.
- FeargusMcDuff, on 07/20/2009, -1/+14I dont get whats so amazing Dr. Manhattan's nudity. Who cares?
- johnnysaucepn, on 07/20/2009, -0/+12Having gone to the film without seeing the book first, I can say that not seeing the bodies does no harm to the knowledge of the horror that is happening - and in some way goes to reinforce that these are the actions of beings who consider themselves 'above' the common man. Of course, I'm sure many of you will say that that's the point of the visceral scenes.
- stubear, on 07/20/2009, -0/+12That's why he gave us the :O face.
- wedges, on 07/20/2009, -1/+11i think people want MORE blue penis. i know i do.
- rewnick, on 07/20/2009, -0/+10That's what the fans always ask for, though. This just proves that they can NEVER be satisfied with ANYTHING adapted to film. I say ***** em. The movie was damn enjoyable. :P
- fudsak, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9I never read the novel, I thought I had a pretty good grasp of what was going on...
Also, I liked it so much I pre-ordered the blu-ray. - mywhitenoise, on 07/20/2009, -3/+12And a DVD is technically a "compact disc", so what's your point?
- Jektal, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9I thought Manhattan had always teleported everyone else out first, and then thought about it a moment, and left too.
- davincih, on 07/20/2009, -8/+17This is the kind of DVD you buy a Blu-Ray player for. Can not wait.
- robdiggity, on 07/20/2009, -1/+10At least it doesn't do tricks like in Bruno. Now THAT was a talented dong.
- allisonaxe, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9people actually watched beowulf?
- CoD4, on 07/20/2009, -2/+10Can't believe he didn't do it even after getting it rated R.
By the way i didn't rtfa as usual so does the blu-ray have the additional 30 minutes on it? - newman328, on 07/20/2009, -4/+12Yeah well I DON'T HAVE BLU-RAY! *shakes fist in the air*.
- Hetman, on 07/20/2009, -0/+8They should have went with a miniseries like they did for dune.
- amoirae, on 07/20/2009, -1/+8While the director's cut is much better, I could have stood another hour added on for further expansion into the original story.
- Fleagleman, on 07/20/2009, -4/+11Finally watched it last night (I have a baby and don't go to the theater anymore, so sue me). How in the world can anyone who hasn't read the graphic novel even know what the hell this movie is about? I understand making a love letter to fans of the book, but that was ridiculous. Of course, as a fan, I liked it, I've just never seen a movie that stayed so close to the source material as to give a big "***** you" to everyone else.
- JollyMunchkin, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7Ok, seriously.
TIME TO STOP THE WANG HATING.
It's just a penis. After Bruno, a benign - albeit blue - penis is practically G rated.
"BRUNO!!" - sinizuh, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7In the comic, didn't one of the reporters die from a heart attack after Dr. Manhattan teleported him?
- dysonlu, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7I don't understand what's the freaking controversy with this. Though, what I'm pretty sure about is that this big fuss only happens in the USA. It's just a penis (yeah, I used the right word; shocked?) for God sakes.
- SchrodingersCar, on 07/20/2009, -1/+8I went with 3 friends who never read the novel and they all understood and loved it.
- ArkRep, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6I can't wait for the Ultimate Collector’s Edition to come out ... will be great to see with Tales of the Black Freighter included.
- kingnova, on 07/20/2009, -1/+7How much less could you care?
- Kohaxx, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6"I DID IT!" was the line missing me that bothered me the most. The few seconds of Veidt's horror and anticipation knowing what he had done and wondering if it was going to work, that uncertainty was amazing. Then the sudden shift to "I DID IT!" and his character's belief that the end justified the means and he could live with the guilt was really amazing.
I thought the movie was a little bit more depressing than the graphic novel in that regard. Veidt just kind of mopes there as they all leave, he looks guilty and almost defeated.
Also needed the "It's never over, Adrian." to show how minuscule the peace he accomplished would be in the universal scale of things. - damnshoes, on 07/20/2009, -1/+7suck, eh?
- inactive, on 09/13/2009, -1/+6it went from being "Bart Simpson" size junk in the original comic book to Tommy Lee sized in the movie.
- rocknog, on 07/20/2009, -1/+6I agree, when you really think about it, the squid subplot was kind of silly. But that's why the carnage was so important - you turn the page, and suddenly there's blood and bodies everywhere, and the horror of it all makes you forget about the ridiculousness of the giant squid. Which is actually part of why I feel the death and devastation should've been included in the movie - I think the scene would've made everyone instantly forget about the lack of squid. Instead, we basically get a big crater.
- andyrunner, on 07/20/2009, -1/+6Is this really the first Blu-ray with a PiP commentary? That was a feature on HD DVDs like 3 years ago
- mayonaize, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5Article says it comes with a coupon for the ultimate edition. Ergo; I ain't buying this just to buy it again with EVERYTHING included in a few months, discounted or not.
- sinizuh, on 07/20/2009, -1/+6The director's cut doesn't even have the scene with Nightowl standing naked with his goggles on, saying "So impotent" :(
- allisonaxe, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5the problem i had with the motion comic is, its narrated by one guy. the rape scene came across as incredibly awkward. it was great though for high resolution stills of the book.
- kolop1, on 07/20/2009, -2/+7The Dune miniseries was terrible.
- praisethelard, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4You just blew my mind.
- MaTT2011, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4REALLY?! You whipped on the schlong-ruler and got to measuring?
You people are waaaaaaaay too focused on dicks when it comes to this movie that things are starting to get a little gay. You just cant let it go, why is that? Now you're comparing sizes? Are people that ***** stupid now? Do you hit up museums and point out to the rest of the attendees the respective sizes of each individual dong in the numerous painting present and then complain about it?
Dear god, what has society come to that they cant handle nudity!? I can just imagine the collective male population scaring the ***** out of themselves when they see themselves in the mirror like a bunch of god damn retards. You people are CHILDREN! Jesus christ get over it! - ArkRep, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4I was really hoping for it to be included as alternate ending on the BlueRay ...
- frepnog, on 07/20/2009, -2/+6is there a button you can press on the remote control while playing the blu-ray version of Watchmen that changes the musical score to one that is more appropriate for what is happening on screen?
/Watchmen soundtrack SUCKS ASS.
//The movie is not much better, but a great symphonic score would make it much more bearable. - yvrview, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4how come everyone tells me this is the most boring movie ever?
