- crazyman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+177When will they learn that it isn't the gender of the lead or how many naked women are in your movie, but it's the ***** story that's attached to the film. The invasion didn't make money for a reason: it sucked.
- Scrappy1850, on 10/12/2007, -11/+171sweet! no more stupid sandra bullock movies!
- tytanium0503, on 10/18/2007, -14/+129They shouldn't exclude women just because they can't drive..
- KeyLimePie, on 10/18/2007, -18/+129Thank God. Now they can get back in the kitchen and make me some damn chicken.
- chrished, on 10/10/2007, -3/+102Seems rediculous to have a broad statement like 'No longer' but the numbers do speak.
2006 top grossing films: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2006 (First female lead on here is #17 Devil Wears Prada)
2007 top grossing films: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2007 ... (Number 37 Resident Evil Extincition) - murraj2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+98WTF! Does this mean no Catwoman 2?
- DeathBorn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+85I agree. How about a new rule: "no more crappy and cliche scripts?"
- Hittman6, on 10/10/2007, -7/+90Hey, don't be sexist. Broads hate that.
- g30ph, on 10/10/2007, -2/+72If Milla Jovovich was a man I would never have watched Resident Evil.
- PropCulture, on 10/10/2007, -3/+59Well, it -is- Warner BROTHERS.
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39is there an echo in here?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+36Kill Bill
- mcballz, on 10/10/2007, -5/+37So Warner Bros is not making anymore chick flicks or movies like Tomb Raider... I don't think its a bad decision.
- tizz66, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33A lead roll? That wouldn't be very tasty, and you'd probably get lead poisoning too.
- iamdeirdre, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33Aliens
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Julia Roberts is a has-been and Jolie is too preoccupied trying to save the world.
- MrSteamTank, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27I'm sure WB will retract the statement....but not the policy.
- NeoCortex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25...and Dot.
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29I guess the other studios will get rich from female lead movies while they stew.
- Rsulliv1, on 10/11/2007, -5/+25I like how every Julia Roberts movie MUST have a few lines where men are talking about how beautiful she is. She's a hideous creature and the only reason people are fooled into thinking she's cute is that they hear it in the movies.
I'm sure it's actually quite clever. - taylooooor, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24All Warner Bros emails are firstname.lastname@warnerbros.com.
--WB employee who likes women. - sbader, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Silence of the Lambs
- chicagodigger, on 10/11/2007, -9/+27This will of course sound sexist, but its a sound financial decision based on how the marketplace (box-office) has historically operated.
The theory that if the scripts were better the movies would make more money makes sense up until the point where you realize having a good script doesn't equal good box office. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Good
- MagnumVP, on 10/10/2007, -12/+29Wait until Angelina or Julia Roberts walks into his office and tells him that they want a lead roll. He'll change his mind because those ladies bring in the bucks and it is all about the money in that business.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Thank the lord!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Kill Bill
- Veritate, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18I don't know what that says. It seems most of the movies period have male leads.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19Do you really think people pick what movies they want to see based on the gender of the lead character?
- sazai, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21Yes, because alienating half your audience is totally a way to make money.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Kill Bill
- AmusedToDeath, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Deep Throat?
- w1bmw, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Debbie Does Dallas?
- Yez70, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Good Idea.
We can level Hollywood and start over.... - Matteos, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Don't forget remakes.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16He said good not boring.
- SSCrow, on 10/19/2007, -0/+11What the Hell?
Night at the Museum grossed more money than Casino Royale?
*I just died a little inside* - jsully, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12is there an echo in here?
- ispshadow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the lead has a vag, it's the scripts that are being put to film that suck.
- Takran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11You know, there is a 'reply' button on digg.
- bigtizzle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12300 and any of the Harry Potter movies just came right to my mind. I'm sure if I researched I could find a much longer list.
- Klak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11no, jonny depp. still not a female lead technically. knocked up was completly from a male perspective and seth rogan was the "lead".
- wilf_brim, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Disagree. Don't ever discount the total nekked breast count. Knocked up would have done much better if Catherine Heigl had shown some skin.
- Wrathernaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I watched a baked goods race, the kaiser bun came in second to the lead roll.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Nope. Last I checked this is a free country. You can't tell a studio how to spend their money.
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Seconded. Stop regurgitating the same scripts over and over and stop remaking older films/adapting 70's TV shows to film/remaking a film but not calling it a remake (e.g. Rear Window and Disturbia).
How about good movies? How about a solid story told well and with good actors, not self-important, pompus asshats that think they're God's gift to the public? How about the fact that every single movie that comes out doesn't have to make more than Titanic or Star Wars or whatever else? Not every film has to blow the boxoffice away. Films don't have to be nothing but money making machines at the expense of everything else. How about good actors who just love what they do and aren't interested in becoming pop culture gods?
Honestly, I think Yez said it right: we should just level Hollywood and start over. - sazai, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14V for Vendetta
- acdcfanbill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Me either, but thats probably more to do with Paul WS Anderson's horrible scripts than Milla's gender.
- mookieXL, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14porn_amateurs_lesbian_sex_vagina.avi
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Um, hellooooooooo? Space Jam?!
