Speak not another slanderous word about Voltron in relation to the vastly inferior Transformers.
One of the best cartoons from my childhood... that, and the original He-Man series. - 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Man, I loved growing up in the 80's. Running home after school everyday to catch Robotech and Transformer's. Getting up nice and early on Saturday mornings for Voltron. We had some of the best TV in those days for kids. I hope it's a DVD set release of both (14?) Vehicle and Lion Voltrons.
- ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"but I had more important things to do than sit around and watch cartoons"
... I'm sorry, you lost me there. - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7*has aneurysm from the shock of that question being asked
- NewEvolution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Robotech was concentrated awesome. Used to watch it every morning before school. Voltron was also high up on the list. I remember my "rich friend" having the whole set of the Voltron toys. He also had about 20 M.A.S.K. toys. Remember M.A.S.K.? Good times man, good times. Also, Starcraft, Air Raiders, and Beast Warriors. Now I just have to resist the urge to re-acquire the physical reminders of my youth via eBay....
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes the 80's were pretty sweet for cartoons. Being a kid in the 80's wasn't to bad, being a teenager in the 90's sucked! Err... maybe being a teenager sucks in the first place, but still.
- TomSawyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is not technology related!! The blood of the infidels will flood the digital streets!
Do you guys remember the "official" bad ass Voltron toy? It was 5 lions that could turn into Voltron very much like the cartoon version and the heads on the arm lions would shoot out with spring action. It had to be pulled from the market because it had a high lead content. Head no think too good no more but heart still love Voltron! - mystice30, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5click on the "Visit Old Site" link and it says this:
"Finally, take a good look around as the VOLTRON.com website is about to go under an extreme makeover itself in anticipation of new announcements of both the live action movie and VOLTRON on a certain Digital Versatile Disc format we know you are all waiting for. "
Mystery solved. - SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't think it's for not knowing as much as the snotty "I had better things to do"... damn man, cartoons were at their peak in the 80s... I remember when Saturday morning actually had something to watch...
- doomengine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If I had to guess, it would be a site relaunch followed by a DVD down the road.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I still have to fight the urge to say "And knowing is half the battle" when I hear someone say "Now you know"
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@mcbesq: Sadly, we who have a Pavlovian response to the word "Voltron" are now "old".
- megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think it's: Form feet and legs! Form arms and torso! And I'll form - THE HEAD!
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"form feet and legs... form body..."
- megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I rented some old Voltron cassettes a few years ago. I had completely forgotten how bizarre the show was up until then. It's narrated by the guy who does the voice of Optimus Prime. At the end of each episode you get a weird moral/lesson like, "Everyone has the power to do good. Sometimes, all you need is some help from a friend... LIKE VOLTRON!"
I am not making this up. - saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Um, no. The quotes on the splash page are quoted in this thread.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I love the lion Voltron! I even joined the club and had the Pannini sticker album!!! ;P I'm an 80's kid YEAH YEAH YAH!!!!!
~mario - KarmannGhia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this the five cougar version of the Voltron? I remember there are two versions of Voltron, the five cougar one that's always being air'ed. And the voltron that is composed of like 30 robots or something that got air'ed a few times. Personally, I liked the latter way more.
- joshHighland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i have a metal voltron from the 80's in a plexi glass case, mount on the wall in my home office. i cant wait for the dvds to come out. Im kind of worried about the movie though.
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wanted the metal one soooo bad.. I only ever managed to save for two. The red one and the Blue. I remember the red one had a button and his spring loaded head would shoot off. I heard about the recall, but I just didn't lick them and I was fine. My step brother had the plastic one. It was ok, cause it was cheaper, but kinda lame. We'd put it together, and then when you lift it up half the limbs would fall off. Transformers that combined had the same problem, like the Constructacons. I guess that was their attempt to hone in on the voltron hype.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For some reason I preferred Vehicle Voltron too, but I only remember ever seeing a couple episodes of it as a kid. I was always excited when it was on, but it was never as popular as Lion Voltron.
- meangene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fight the urge? C'mon, just SAY it. People will think you're cool.
- pillfred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL we were just talking about Voltron at work the other day. Took me a minute to remeber. sweet.
- pinnette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I actually have the plastic version and I think it was the black lion that included the sword, but the sword is there. If it were thrown around I can see how it falls apart but mine is still in great condition. On that same note, I did have the Constructicons and they did fall apart.
- ashtonium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yeah, the quotes make it seem like both a site relaunch and a DVD release are on the way
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh man, I remember that thing. I would save up my money and buy two lions at a time, trying to make the whole thing. What was really annoying is that they sold the black lion by itself. In the end, I think someone bought me the whole set at once, and I had a bunch of spare arms and legs. The stupid wings broke off after a few days though.. and it didn't come with that bad ass sword. How can you have Voltron without the sword?
Come to think of it, it *was* mighty tastey... - Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There was a law at the time that said they had to have a certain amount of educational content, so they would tack on the moral of the day to the end to meet the minimum. I don't know if they've done away with it, but I know the horrible DIC version of Sailor Moon from the 90's still had a moral tacked on the end (pretty funny for a show which originally had some rather adult overtones).
My favorite was when they would combine marketing for some lobby group and the cartoon. "The Gummy Bears say cheese does a body good!" or, the obligatory "'cuz winner don't use drugs. Yooo Joee!" - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hyakujuu-Ou Go-Lion! This was an awesome show, it would be cool to see it subtitled and how much stuff they probably cut out of it.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Among my circle of friends, I once "famously" won an argument using the "Voltron conjecture". My friend was hitting on some girl, who I kept telling him was way too young for him (a difference of a few years perhaps, but when you are younger a little difference means more). Anyway, I told him I could prove she was too young for him. I turned to her and said "Who's your favorite character on Voltron?" and she said "Vol-what?". Case closed :)
Strangely, my fiance, born in 83 "knows" what Voltron is. It's that show with a bunch of cars that connect together all done in 3d! (Arrgghhhh!)
If this is a DVD release, I'll be really pissed if it's the newer, younger version. I hated that crap. When I was a kid, none of our cartoons made sense, and we liked it that way! (And in response to an earlier post, M.A.S.K. was the bomb. I had the big thunder mountain playset.) - megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just looked it up and yes, it's Peter Cullen: http://imdb.com/title/tt0086824/
- fryevenile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree. I hope that we can finally get a concrete release date for a DVD set or something. I have been waiting on Voltron to come out on DVD in the U.S. for years.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hmm... V-Day... where have I heard that before...
http://www.vday.org/main.html - cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1peter cullen. his name is peter cullen.
- theducks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Voltron DVD's have been out in Australia for a year or so. Who says Region Codes only hurt foreign devils ;)
- RugbyPrince, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Many of the eighties cartoons had the moral/less at the end of each episode... Some of the most famously bizarre lessons came from He-Man (with lessons such as "Don't get carried away with sweets!" or "Rammin' things with your head is just dumb"), but Thunder Cats and, of course, GI Joe had them as well... Is the narrative really the voice of Optimus Prime???
- hammerattack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Almost every 80's cartoon comes out as a DVD. Don't let the gobots DVD come out before Voltron. That's too embarrassing."
- MSIGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just opened that up as someone was walking behind me in the computer lab. That was awkward when the first thing to come up on the screen was "Vagina." Funny though.
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3By the power of Greysk.....
Sorry, wrong thread! - Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"And no ones mentioned vehicle voltron?! "
That was an abomination against all that is good and holy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, some of us had sports to compete in!
But fine, fine.. now you can mod me for being an ex jock. You hateful jerks! ;) - sgtawol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best. Cartoon. Ever.
I watched this series so much as a kid I wore out the tape (yea, it was beta even) that my grandma had made for me! It looks like it could be for a dvd announcement or something maybe... Have to bookmark that one! - robinkmedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone remember Lionbot?
HE had a sword.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Lionbot-Voltron-GB-35-popy-chogokin-godaikin-VINTAGE_W0QQitemZ5976118051QQcategoryZ16467QQcmdZViewItem - cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lets see. what else kicks ass as much as voltron? the force five.the shogun warriors. the spacekateers. The Starvengers and another one i could never remember the name of but when it was called to help the pilot would drive a white futurustic semitruck out from mountain and when would transform he would say dinopowerand merge with another ship. No it wasnt those gay ass power rangers either. this was back in the late 70's early 80's. O well.
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I lived in the 90s and know what Voltron is, it was one of the sex gods in the form of a collection of giant robots. The 3D version seems like a stab at Beast Wars.
- _skin_, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The quotes would have you thinking a DVD is coming out. Or a site relaunch... Or both?
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://voltron.com/series.html might give clues?
- soupyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats no different than any other Japanese cartoon nowadays....
- woodchuckrules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This show shaped my childhood; both shows were great. Hmm...where is the six armed cyclops voltron?
- jamesdemien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you guys guessed it...DVD's available in the US...
Let me know what you think of the new site that launched with the announcement. -
