- LibertyPrime, on 05/07/2009, -4/+62A danger to the church? Do they have like their own terror alert level or something?
- deweyhewson, on 05/07/2009, -7/+60I'm not surprised; The Da Vinci Code didn't really bring down the church, now did it?
The Vatican should be more worried about the true dirt that has existed on them over the last 2000 years than about a book/film that any thinking person will recognize as fiction. - LuckyASN, on 05/07/2009, -0/+46Yep, by you go by what color hat the pope is wearing.
- Chooxo, on 05/07/2009, -2/+39They just know that if they call for a boycott, the only result would be more people going to see it :)
Being okayed by the Vatican is a seal of uncoolness. - CressCrowbits, on 05/07/2009, -3/+27Cue smartass comments slagging off christianity and religion in general despite reasonable and rational statement by religious group.
- mine4321, on 05/07/2009, -4/+28Thank God!
The entire world was waiting breathlessly on that decision. - FearlessFreep, on 05/07/2009, -1/+21Now that's a name I haven't gone by in a long time
- mine4321, on 05/07/2009, -2/+21Nobody expects... THE INQUISITION!
- CressCrowbits, on 05/07/2009, -1/+19Oh give it a rest. They were talking about 'historical' inaccuracies, like the history of the catholic church which itself is hardly mythological.
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -0/+17If I remember correctly, A&D makes no scandalous claims like DCode did regarding the history of famous religious figureheads.
- ryanonfire, on 05/07/2009, -1/+17Nooo I want controversy!
- hoju7887, on 05/07/2009, -1/+16Get over yourself dude. People liked the book, so they're making a movie. It's as simple as that.
- Senturion, on 05/07/2009, -0/+15Of course it is harmless, it's a work of fiction, just like the last one.
- craznar, on 05/07/2009, -4/+19OMG - There must be something in this movie.
- GrammerPants, on 05/07/2009, -1/+16Well they smartened up didn't they? If they made a stink about it, more attention would have been paid to the movie, this time around there are not giving it any extra media, like the opus dei people did with the last movie.
- Ragarnok, on 05/07/2009, -1/+14I'm sure the film company is pissed, the controversy was great publicity
- bghs2003, on 05/07/2009, -0/+12Seems like they finally learned how to respond to entertainment like Angels and Demons. I am sure all those involved in the film wished the Vatican made a controversy out of it. I hope Bill Donohue take a note of this so I never have to hear him again.
- Friendlyhazard, on 05/07/2009, -11/+23"finding the religious thriller commercial and inaccurate"
hmmm there's one thing they haven't reviewed... - tobsterius, on 05/07/2009, -1/+13No, it didn't. But their outrage helped the Da Vinci Code rack up some serious dough world wide.
Plus, if I remember correctly, Angels is even more ridiculous than Code... - MOJIRA, on 05/07/2009, -0/+12Reverse psychology.
- yfph, on 05/07/2009, -1/+11color me unimpressed. I think their should be more outrage over the book's shabby, preposterous climax.
- thescimitar, on 05/07/2009, -2/+12Evangelicals in the United States tend to be Protestant, and have a habit with equating Catholics with every other group that they hate and/or think is going to "hell."
- mohsenxp, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9+1 for you.
Also now that the Vatican has OK'd it for me to go see this film, I will!
Thank you Vatican. I'd be forever asleep if it wasn't for your daily instructions. - geauxtig3rs, on 05/07/2009, -1/+10Catholocism is a branch of Christianity FYI..
It's like saying "He's not Christian, he's a Baptist." - jonr, on 05/07/2009, -1/+10Later updated to "Mostly harmless"
- nedev, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8You were so close to saying something borderline intelligent, then you decide to spoil it.
- MajinAku, on 05/07/2009, -19/+27They should also worry about any thinking person that should recognize religion as fiction
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -2/+10Evangelicals think catholics are evil.
- ViscidGobs, on 05/07/2009, -2/+10Can we just settle on hating you?
- moleeyes, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7Yeah, the opus dei trying to kill Tom Hanks was over the top.
- ShingoEX, on 05/07/2009, -4/+11Although I'm an atheist, I really don't have a problem with religion, as long as it doesn't interfere with how I want to live my life.
THIS is why I hate the Vatican. It's more of a control group than a religious institution, and for a group that claims to be so strong, it sure doesn't take much to get them all riled up and butthurt over things. - elfprince13, on 05/07/2009, -1/+8Actually, between them, Christianity and Islam account for at least 50% of the world's population (at least by census standards, not necessarily practicing), and they probably share about 75% of their (important) doctrine. Islam shows strong influences from/similarities with certain heretical branches of the church, and they certainly believe that nearly ALL of the events in the Bible actually happened.
- powatom, on 05/07/2009, -5/+12I'm glad the institution I have no respect for has deemed something I don't care about inoffensive.
- MikeOxbigg, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7Sequels are NEVER harmless.
- Catsmeat, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7"Just as all American publishers hope that if they lead good and upright lives, their books will be banned in Boston, so do all English publishers pray that theirs will be denounced from the pulpit by a bishop."
P G Wodehouse, Cocktail Time. - Pixelante, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6The Pope doesn't punch people, he throws faith blasts.
- noahgelman, on 05/07/2009, -1/+7I know its fun and cool to make fun of the Vatican because none of you care what they think, but just enjoy that they're not making some huge deal out of it and criticizing it. Be glad that they're lightening up.
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -1/+7Dan Brown is a fraud? He didn't write the books? I mean, they are fiction right? It doesn't matter what ***** he writes, as long as he claims it's fiction. Then people like you attack him for not getting "history" right? Well, as you can see, that's just stupid.
- Elranzer, on 05/07/2009, -3/+9If all the child molestation* scandals didn't bring down the church, what makes them think some mediocre fictional book/movie is going to have that effect?
* (I realize this is a cue for Pedobear). - jgtg32a, on 05/07/2009, -3/+9I actually like having the Vatican because without a control structure you get evangelicals. Who don't under go any training or education about the bible, derivative works, or historical context. They read it and take it word for word.
- invinciblechunk, on 05/07/2009, -3/+9A pedophile scandal didn't bring down the church, either. I think they're going to be around a while.
- OdinThor, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6The Vatican is the smallest independent state in the world and the residence of the spiritual leadership of the Roman Catholic church. As it is its own sovereign country I would think it would need to behave a little differently than a bunch of yahoo creationists who meet in the basement of somebody's house three times a week in central Mississippi.
In contrast, the Vatican employs its own scientists through the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. In fact, even Stephen Hawking is a current ordinary member. Here is a list of the Nobel Prize winners amongst them:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontifical_Academy_of ... - ljoreilly, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Adolf won the triple crown?
- acklefutz, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Evangelicals go around being judgmental and asking everyone if they have been "saved", whereas Catholics get drunk and then wallow in their guilt.
- GrammerPants, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5We care, we would all be talking about how they are just making the movie more popular if they said the movie goes against the church.
- MattyC69, on 05/07/2009, -2/+6PWNED! CHRISTIANITY! ***** YEAH!!!
- jgtg32a, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5Yeah and they usually refer to Catholics as Papists
- yoderizer, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5Christians, Muslims, Hindus - all believe in miracles. I don't know much about the other religions of the world, but belief in the supernatural is pretty common, although believing the specific events in the New Testament is more limited. So who exactly were you referring to you when you said "people of most other religions"? Deists?
- kendetroit, on 05/07/2009, -3/+7Well then, no free publicity this time. Getting wise in their old age.
