- DeepFriedFetus, on 05/17/2008, -1/+33Well, I guess if we were comparing the anti-Boll petition to the Obama Campaign, Boll pretty much measures up to Hillary's tendency to still hang around and be a douchebag despite everyone metaphorically (and sometimes literally) screaming "GET THE ***** OUT!!"
- photohunter, on 05/17/2008, -1/+29"Uwe Boll is the spastic kid in your classroom: Attack him, and he’ll push back—with often-hilarious results. He’ll curse. He’ll scream. He’ll try to fight you"
Hah! - haentz, on 05/17/2008, -0/+23Are these really B-Movies? Aren't they more like C-Movies?
- iticu, on 05/17/2008, -0/+17I'm so glad WoW turned him down when he offered to make their movie.
- amanilaenvelope, on 05/17/2008, -2/+15Have we not arrived at our final destination? Why is this man still making news that always puts him in the spotlight?
THIS IS THE INTERNET!!! GETTING A MILLION VOTES FOR SOMETHING SHOULDN'T BE SO HARD TO GET TO, GO OUT THERE AND VOTE FOR THIS GUY TO STOP MAKING FILMS!! - Kyrgizion, on 05/17/2008, -2/+12What I cannot comprehend for the life of me is where he manages to keep getting funds for his little pet projects. It's one thing to be bat-***** crazy and make the worst movies mankind has ever seen, but it's another completely to be able to drag hundreds of people into that ***** with you. Besides, his films have never been box office hits - how the ***** does he manage to convince producers to let him slide out another turd of a movie?
- Bersy, on 05/17/2008, -1/+6"Uwe Boll (pronounced you-vuh ball) is the reason that films based on video games get such a bad wrap"
I don't notice any difference in the quality of the wrap. - inactive, on 05/17/2008, -0/+5I've never had more respect for Blizzard.
- TJacques, on 05/17/2008, -0/+5Neither, they are P-movies.

- ErrorS, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3I agree, I honestly believe this man is just screwing with people. I can't see how he thinks his movies are decent.. sure, if it was just an internet campaign against him, but I doubt there's a reputable critic out there that has given his movie any kind of a positive review.
- dorkdork777, on 05/17/2008, -1/+4I don't care if he keeps making movies - so long as he stops bastardising my favourite games I'll be happy.
- toekneebullard, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3Yeah, too bad it's only in 4 theaters. I bet those will be awsome screenings.
- acdcfanbill, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3The fact that he continues to gets funding for movies that sell so poorly and are in general, terrible films, tells me that movies are a lot more profitable than Hollywood types would like to acknowledge.
- SabrinaHeaven, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2It may help to visualize the Uwe Boll saga as a flame war on the GameFAQs forum.
All forums have taboo subjects; these are points on which the unspoken consensus is very strong, on which any disagreement (even factual disagreement on matters that CAN be settled by evidence) may spark a flame war. Obviously, fan forums being what they are, the literary/artistic value of video games is one such subject.
Now, the reason these taboo subjects are so controversial has to do with the false ego being maintained by participation in these artificial social constructs (forums, reviews, articles, etc.). The fan sees himself as a person-who-enjoys-videogames (that is his identity) and even sees himself as a crucial part of the process that brings these games into existence. Like how overzealous football fans see themselves as a part of the team, believing themselves to be participants when they scream at the television. When you insult the object of fandom, you insult the fan, because his identity (false ego) is wrapped up in it. Get enough of these people together in a group and they reinforce each other, creating a meta-fandom whereby the group members are fanboys of themselves and their group and the act of being fanboys. So, when provoked (either intentionally by a troll or unintentionally by a person who just happens to be honest and rational), they go mad.
The taboo that Uwe Boll appears to have transgressed has to do with the literary/artistic value of video games. Not just that he makes bad movies. Lots of directors make bad movies. Not just that he makes bad movies based on video games. Every movie ever based on a video game has been terrible. It's that he's so unrepentant and unapologetic about it. He contradicts the irrational fanboy consensus belief that video games like Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark are great artistic works.
I've followed Uwe Boll's interviews for some time now, and this is something he's said repeatedly:
"Trebuchet Magazine: You have mentioned in an interview that you quite like doing genre films because they stick around, like the John Ford films of the 1950s and ‘60s. The archetypal characters that they have speak to people and have a longevity perhaps because human nature doesn’t change all that much and those archetypes remain recognisable. Is this still true? Do you still believe this?
"Uwe Boll: Absolutely. I like making genre films and they are the ones that I keep in my VHS and DVD collections. I don’t watch those art-house movies twice. Like Brokeback Mountain I’m not going to see again, or Capote or all those Oscar winners, but Escape from New York I will always enjoy."

Uwe Boll makes crap movies. Genre movies. That is his intention, and he sees nothing wrong with it. He's admitted his technical execution could have been better and that there were problems with some films, but it's not his GOALS that he has questioned. At the same time he concedes Bloodrayne had faults, he speaks enthusiastically about a sequel where Bloodrayne fights cowboys.
This attitude contradicts everything fanboys believe about themselves and reality. You see, in their world, Bloodrayne is a great work of staggering genius. They spent dozens of hours with that game, making it out to be much better than it ever was. Better than it was ever intended to be. Then Uwe Boll comes along and throws a cold glass of reality in their face.
Other directors, the fanboys think, at least tried to be true to the game. They may laugh at Street Fighter and Super Mario Brothers, but they see those as real A-list Hollywood efforts that went astray despite good intentions, whereas Uwe Boll has no good intentions (in their view).
On top of that, add the fact that Uwe Boll is a doctor of literature and an overwhelming success in his chosen profession, whereas they're living in their mother's basement, and it becomes too much for some fanboys to handle. - thetopcrusader, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2“In [BloodRayne], for example, is Geraldine Chaplin and Billy Zane and Meat Loaf and Michael Madsen and Ben Kingsley—maybe one of the best casts. ... They were writing a page only about me, and this is dangerous.”
*sigh* - Kidtuf, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2People hate him due to his complete diregard for his source material and his inability to handle justified criticism (even going so far as to box critics, but not those with a background in the sport, like he himself has).
These a just two reasons, but the fact is that Boll is a tool and he has brought it on himself. - sodoh, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2They are not even that. They are just a way to abuse the German tax laws. Seriously. If he made a good movie he would actually have to start paying tax.
http://www.cinemablend.com/features/Uwe-Boll-Money ... - agent76, on 05/17/2008, -1/+3I was just at the premiere of Postal and Uwe came out and spoke before the film and did a Q&A session afterwards. Not only does he have a great sense of humour about his back catalogue of work but Postal as intended as a hilarious over the top satire that made some relevant political points was a great watch, I went into it with no expectations and really enjoyed it. Distributors in the US would not pick up the film due to thinking that their movie goers would not want to see a film like this... let the people decide, not the companies.
- DalamarArgent, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2I was so happy when I heard they laughed him out of their office. The correct response for that douche asking for movie rights.
- l800LEMMINGS, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Uwe Boll you killed postal for me i hate you
- ZenMojo, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Postal killed Postal. Really, that's the one game you're upset about him ruining? A game where the main character pisses on people as an attack and throws scissors at an army of clone Gary Coleman's?
- flash2000, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Here is where the Boll hate all started - http://digg.com/movies/Uwe_Boll_history_the_online ...
- krisscofield, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Obvious troll is obvious. Boy, did he make an ass of himself on G4, too. Please, nobody look at him. Maybe he'll go away!
- ZenMojo, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1That one paragraph sort of nails the point. Uwe Boll is so bad that a cast of people I would love in 90% of the movies they've made combine to create audiovisual sadism.
- Spamcan, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I had not heard that but I guess its not too shocking. Old man Ford just doesent draw the crowds he used to.
- hmunkey, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Piss bad.
- ZenMojo, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Coincidentally, voting for Obama has the same karmic relevance as voting for Uwe Boll to retire.
- Vash3001, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Favorite games? Are there really people who consider "Bloodrayne" and "House of the Dead" their favorite games?
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2i just hope that one day, maybe one day he will direct a portal movie. :(
yes i am sad. digg me down. - Davram, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1This is all publicity. If people would stop reading/digging/paying any attention to his articles at all, maybe he'd fade away like everyone other circus attraction before him. But no, the internet is turning his 15 minutes of fame into what, ten years of it?
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Like any of the posters above me will be more successful than him. Yea right.
- xtraa, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2(X) Buried.
Because the blogger writes like a flaming troll.
Not Uwe Boll is the story anymore. Seth Porges makes a story out of himself. How? By acting like a whiny child that lost its pacifier. He cries out loud and full of hate. - Kidtuf, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Uwe Boll, aside from a few earlier films, almost exclusively makes movies based on games. He's done so many now that its not at all unacceptable to criticize him for the way he approaches and produces his projects.
Mario Bros and Double Dragon were terrible films and I never said they were accurate, or even mentioned them for that matter. Your logic is flawed. That said, at least those respective directors haven't continually gone back to the well, even when its bone dry, like you buddy Boll has. - madk, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Ha this just gets more entertaining
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1It's not like that. Boll is like a forum troll. Ignoring him only makes it worse. He needs to be stopped.
Like a forum troll, Boll needs to be banned. - toekneebullard, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I guess that would make me a hillraiser
/Boll for Pres 2008 - xtraa, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1It's not pronounced you-vuh. That would be the low-brow ami trying to speak a language other than english.
'Uwe' sounds more like uh-web. But screw the letter b, thats exactly it. - Fraff5, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Bloodrayne is actually pretty ***** fun.
- DalamarArgent, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Reported for being offensive....
Well not really, but you are getting close. - timbro1, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2http://oranse.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/uwe_boll ...
- DalamarArgent, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Is Uwe Boll's lighter side the side that makes the ***** movies? If that is the case can we start a new petition to lobotomize his lighter side.
- zaptoman, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Sign a petition and make the world a better place? Yep, I can do that.
- Consh, on 05/17/2008, -2/+2Uwe Boll is the greatest troll to ever grace the movies and I love him for it.
- Spamcan, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Disreguards the source material? I guess non-Boll game movies like Super Mario Bros., Double Dragon and Doom are totally accurate then? As far as the critisim goes he's ***** with you, he's a modern day Ed Wood and he knows it. Every time someone like you takes him seriously it just proves he's smart enough to work both sides of the industry.

LWB - DestroyFascism, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1Buried for being Popular Mechanics.
