- heero101086, on 11/21/2007, -0/+18It'd be nice if Quality movies with a decent story is the near future of cinema.
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -0/+11"There are ways."
At first I was skeptical of your response, so I leaned out the window, and yelled THERE ARE WAYS, over fifteen people applauded me, and over a hundred dollars has been posted through my letterbox.
The Internet Thanks YOU Captain Informative. - Ludnix, on 11/21/2007, -6/+17As long as 3d movies require the viewers to wear ridiculous stereoscopic glasses 3d will not be the future of cinema.
- hydrodev, on 11/21/2007, -1/+11The new glasses they use aren't that bad.
- uptown, on 11/21/2007, -0/+7The only reason they're doing this is to combat the fact that most people's home systems provide a better overall viewing experience than movie theatres and nobody's got their own home 3D movie machine. It fails to address whether it will enhance or detract from what the director had in mind.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 11/21/2007, -1/+7Tip from a working stereoscopic compositor: the glasses -- their days are numbered.
Stay tuned. When the glasses-free systems get into broad, consumer-level production you're going to see a sea-change in media. Flat media will be, like, soooo twentieth-century. - Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -0/+6The new glasses are supposed to not give you headaches. They use digital projection so it's a completely stable picture, and use polarized lenses instead of the old blue/red lenses. I thought it would be uncomfortable but it wasn't at all. I didn't feel any weird effects after watching the whole movie.
- DocHoliday22, on 11/21/2007, -0/+5Nobody cares how they look, we just wanna see the movie...
- doodlebumm, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away... Help me Obi-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4Tintin FTW - 2009 is not soon enough! Animate faster!
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -1/+5What's wrong with wearing dorky glasses in a dark theater? No one will see you. Beowulf (and the previews for U2 3D and Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) were awesome in Digital 3D (Real D). The 3D effect looked very good, with no discomfort. Try it out at least once before you dismiss it.
- uptown, on 11/21/2007, -0/+3If they can get rid of the obnoxious ass hole that goes to the bathroom and answers their cell phone during the movie they may see an increase in sales. Some theatres are just out of control these days. It takes you out of the movie and isn't worth it ... especially considering the movies hit DVD 3 months later for the price of one ticket.
- t0ad, on 11/21/2007, -1/+4I was impressed with its usage in Beowulf, but I hope it doesn't end up being the next new trend in cinema like comic book movies and animated films have been lately.
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -1/+3Having watched Beowulf in Digital 3D, I think it enhanced the experience and what the director had in mind. It was a much more immersive experience than regular 2D movies.
- BarriedaleNick, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2I do hope it's not the future - due to a fecked left eye the 3D effect doesn't really work for me. After about ten mins I just start seeing double, get a headache and feel nauseous. Mind you that could be down to the pre film beer and sushi...
- NJank, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2by directly addressing different frames to each eye. phase sensitive screens can do this if they know the exact position of your eyes relative to the screen. A tad tricky for a full theater, though.
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2Oh god no, plz not another shrek movie I think i'm going to hang myself now.
- zjordan04, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2I saw Beowulf in 3D at my local theater.
And I live in ARKANSAS. - Xondar, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2"George Lucas has announced plans to remaster all of the Star Wars films in 3D. When this might actually happen is anyones guess."
Does anyone else feel like crying when they read this? - romistrub, on 11/21/2007, -1/+2"Star Wars: George Lucas has announced plans to remaster all of the Star Wars films in 3D. When this might actually happen is anyones guess."
You had to know this was going to happen... - jhnewt, on 11/21/2007, -3/+4I predict 3D is NOT the future. It's a gimmick.
- christiantk, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1digital 3d, once in imax (which was the worst); i gave it another shot in normal theater and found it to be nearly as bad.
glasses were dark lenses, presumably polarized - markperia, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1They missed Coraline to be released next year.
- shartman, on 11/21/2007, -3/+4I get headaches from those damn glasses.
- TomRemixed, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Why is there Tintin and then Tintin 3? What happened to Tintin 2?
- kinghajj, on 11/21/2007, -1/+2How else are you gonna get a 3d image on a 2d surface? The glasses aren't that bad anymore, unless you have to wear eyeglasses, then they can hurt a bit.
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Agreed! :-)
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Just out of curiosity, did you watch it in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D (Real D), or something else? What did the glasses look like? Blue and red lenses, dark lenses, or big goggles?
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Everytime I think of 3D, I think about Phoebe Buffet handing out 3D glasses at her grandmother's funeral....
- BearinG, on 11/22/2007, -0/+1I want Holographic movies where I can stand in the movie room and walk around
- ydt89, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Really? You hated Nightmare in 3d?
I personally thought it was a great experience. None of that stupid red and blue crap. The digital 3d was really a different experience then other 3d movies I've seen. I really enjoyed how everything was in 3d all the time. - cugar, on 11/21/2007, -1/+2they predicted this in back to the future 2
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Interesting, thanks for the reply! They're saying that Digital 3D (regular theaters) is not supposed to cause headaches. I had the dark (polarized) lens glasses as well and didn't feel any adverse effects. Maybe some people are extra sensitive to the effect.
- christiantk, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1i disliked it for the physical pain and strain put against my eyes.. maybe im a minority in this?
- christiantk, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1not unless it's developed in the past 2 years, since my last eye exam
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Yeah, what zjordan said. Although I'm in Southern California I was still surprised at how many theaters were equipped for this. There were like half a dozen of them within half an hour drive.
If you go to RealD.com they have a theater locator so you can find a local theater that is equipped with it. Good luck! - r337ard, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1You don't happen to have any sort of astigmatism do you?
- TheSnuffster, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Would that happen to be the "Untitled Tintin Sequel" that is mentioned?
Just guessing... - dragon76, on 11/22/2007, -0/+1"If they can get rid of the obnoxious ass hole that goes to the bathroom and answers their cell phone during the movie"
And that's just the usher. I've found the main reason I stop going to the movies is the staff make is such a repulsive concept. - christiantk, on 11/21/2007, -3/+3I for one HATE 3d movies. I saw Nightmare Before Xmas in 3d. I wouldn't see another 3d movie unless it was free. It adds a great novelty aspect to movie going, but it's not worth the discomfort it gives me.
Headaches from constant eye movement and those crappy glasses make me avoid them like the plague. - mister711, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1I can't wait till 2011 to watch some of these masterpieces.
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1here is a good place to go for movie reviews:
http://www.mannpill.com/entertainment/movies/ - loquax, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1I think that 3d is the future, but I'd take it one farther. We need full walk-around 3D WITHOUT glasses. When we can do a virtual play in the round without glasses, we will have something to really dig (or digg) into. I'd love to be able to see theater with the same ease we see cinema at home.
- greenriver572, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1they already released nightmare before christmas in 3D. and it sucked.
- Optic7, on 11/21/2007, -2/+2I, for one, will probably be watching all the live action or more adult-themed animations (Tintin!) that come out in 3D over the next couple of years. I loved the experience in Beowulf and will seek it again.
- kinghajj, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1If theatres convert to 100% digital then they may see an increase in sales.
- KewlerKid3, on 11/21/2007, -1/+0I've been waiting for the return of 3-D Movies! At least the technology has improved alot over the years.
(Honey I Shrunk The Audience!) - apothekari, on 11/21/2007, -2/+1Yeah well thats cool and all but until you can go to my regular local theater and see these things it's not going to go anywhere.
I for one am sick of hearing about a cool 3d movie or re-release of a movie I loved in 3D and get all excited about it and then find I have to drive 300 miles to a theater to see it!
I saw Friday the 13th part 3 in my local theater, I saw Freddy's Dead in my local theater and I saw an animated Star Wars rip off in the mid 80's in 3d {Starchaser?} at my local theater. So why the hell I now have to go to some overpriced always sold out when you get there ***** now is beyond me!
"If you build it local they will come" - leerayIG88, on 11/21/2007, -2/+1BrokeBack Mountain??? :-s
- romistrub, on 11/21/2007, -6/+2"How else are you gonna get a 3d image on a 2d surface?"
There are ways. -
