- dlaughland, on 01/20/2009, -0/+10No superduper, no. A fan site could never make any Transformers movie. It would never get off the ground because they'd be too busy nitpicking and arguing amongst themselves about what color the damn gobots should be. I'm glad Michael Bay is making this movie because even if the writing is atrocious and even if it's a 2-hour long Microsoft ad, dammit he's going to make that ad blow up in your face with kung-fu grip. No pussyfooting around, just robots and guns and stuff blowing up. Which is what Transformers is all about. Who cares if your favorite car-cum-freedom fighter has the right character, or even the right name. I want to see giant farking robots making some giant farking explosions!
- shooby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8HD Quicktime versions straight from Yahoo
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/transformers_hd.html - MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8However your "DivX" version was CONVERTED FROM the HD QuickTime source. It looks better? Really? Ya sure?
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Robotech blew them all away.

Now if they made a bigscreen movie of that, it would truly rock. But I'd want Peter Jackson instead of Stephen Spielberg and Michael Bay. - dlaughland, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5Christ almighty, warring geeks make me want to gouge my eyes out with a protractor.

no no jk, gobots are the kmart of transformers. but this is nice :D - adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It this movie is anything like the Island then it wouldn't surprise me to see the Autobots stamped with adverts like the cars at NASCAR.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3also, seeing someone wearing a "strokes" shirt in ever scene of th TRAILER makes me want to hurl. unrelated product placement is really ruining tv and movies.
- MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Have a coke & a smile.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7This will be the worst movie of all time, I promise this to you now-- it's so unfaithful to transformers it makes me sad.
Just the potential product placements alone are enough to scare me off-- remember all the Microsoft placements on the island.
You had people stuck on this on an "island" being taught it was reality-- yet Microsoft sent them marketing materials to put up for their next-gen Xboxes... like they could actually go out and buy them?
Then you had the MSN search booths that a) cost money, and b) couldn't find anything on a simple query.
Anyway transformers will just be a hollowed out remake with more glitz and sfx-- with little purpose other than to pump some products like ***** cars.. I almost want to go see it, just to experience the train wreck in action. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yahoo already had the HD versions out since it was first released. (just a few hours later)

I don't mind product placement in a movie. Sometimes it even makes the movie look and feel more legitimate.
However, the ads in The Island were completely obtrusive and unnecessary. They were the focus of a large number of shots and scenes. Continuous close ups on the brands and logos made the movie feel like an ad. Thefilmakers went out of their way to get good shots of the products... constantly. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'd rather have a faithful Gobots movie than a ***** transformers movie.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5from the article (not that its a 'real' one though):
"In case you didn't know it, we like to use Divx around these parts. Why? It looks better than Quicktime, it plays on your bad-ass HDTV a lot easier than Quicktime, and it's a hell of a lot smaller then Quicktime."
Damn straight! How QT can be so bad quality and size wise is a mystery to me with all the fanboy hype! oh, wait... - MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And that too - all of the HD QuickTime encodes use better compression than DivX can muster.
- MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Except that The Island doesn't need your precious forgiveness.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I had no idea Optimus Prime had salty balls.

- MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try Yahoo Movies... you know, the ones who have the HD QuickTime files where they converted this from and acted like it's their own.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well that's just prime!
- superduper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i aggree with my man up here. it's going to be rough. pretty rough. especially if it anything like the Island... or Bad Boys II.. or Pearl Harbor.. I don't know how much those movies combined cost... but i'm sure it was a lot..and SOMEHOW the studio gave Michael Bay the big budget whore that he is... millions of dollars to make this film.
honestly i think a collective directorial effort could have been made by a transformers fan site and they could have done a much better job.
but... i hope... i pray... boy do i pray that this movie is good... i've watch the 1984 film... nearly 100 times.... yes i'm a loser... but i love the transformers. it's totally connected with my childhood and i can't get enough.
so... it won't surprise me if it ends up being bad... but how fantastic would it be if the film is actually good?????????????? can't we hope? - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Need more trailers, not more formats.
The Robot Chicken "Get A Prostate Exam" sketch was more entertaining.
The movie will make a B+ because a million fanboys will cry over tiny little details, and because
Micheal Bay has a track record of definitive action movies.
The level of fanboy idiocy (I mean the haters, not the open-minded) from all the comments about the /trailers/ make me want to punch a Dragonball fan in the face. - superduper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this came out a couple weeks ago. but i still love it. and i guess ill dig it anways.
i wonder if Orson Wells will rise from the dead? ?? ?? maybe?? maybe a little Judd Nelson cameo?? maybe... maybe??? Robert Stack??hhhmmm?? maybe....???hhmmm?? - secleinteer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I know I'm going to get dugg down, but it's Apple - what can you say? ;)
IMHO, Xvid is much better than mov or DivX. - dlaughland, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1My VLC plays QuickTime without a hiccup, and I'm only on an 800MHz processor. What's wrong with yours? Latest version maybe?
- pxa270, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Modern Quicktime uses H.264 a.k.a. MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC as the video codec. It's supposed to deliver better quality at the same bitrate (or equivalent quality at lower bitrates) as the older MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP, which is what DivX/XviD implement. Normally the only disadvantages of AVC compared to ASP are higher CPU requirements and less stand-alone player compatibility.
For more references, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_2 - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Transformers seemed to me to be a veiled commentary on fossil fuels-- Half the time the decepticons weren't destroying the world or fighting armies they were visiting oil installations and turning fossil fuels into energon, so they could get off earth, not take it over.
Having the transformers as cars and trucks seemed like a nice touch of irony.
What happened to the days of intelligent sci-fi? Even if it was allegorical and appealed to kids-- there should be some meaning. - Joe091, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just watching that through one time, I noticed horribly blatant product placements for Chevy and the band "The Strokes." I noticed what appeared to be a Sony LCD or plasma tv, so I'm sure all the tv's shown in the movie will be Sony. All the cars I noticed were GM, so there's that too. I'm just not a huge fan of blatant product placements...
But I still want to see this movie. I mean, it's not going to be Academy Award material or anything, but I'm sure it will be fun. Lots of explosions, and I'm sure I'll be able to shut my mind off for an hour and a half. - irvin666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can see it now, GMC, Ford, International, that...company that builds planes, Intel inside transformers, Microsoft.
Michael!!! I want to see a movie, not a commercial. - voodoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://youtube.com/watch?v=fZIbPN5_mAM
- frayedstring, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, heaven forbid movies have product placement. "Oh my god, they're drinking aquafina instead of 'acme bottled water'. This is the worst movie I've ever seen!"
- blacklilyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok... i hope those fn whiners stop with the QQ. Optimus prime was most definitely a big fn semi.
I think its going to be a fun movie. - delusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is this DiVX version just a re-encode of the Quicktime HD's? If so, that's really lame.
- MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Do the world a favor and stop trying so hard, Raian.
- shooby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Just because it isn't true to the original movie doesn't mean it won't be "good"
- troubledyouths, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You had people stuck on this on an "island" being taught it was reality-- yet Microsoft sent them marketing materials to put up for their next-gen Xboxes... like they could actually go out and buy them?
http://www.silveradoboysranch.com/ - kingygk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This actually looks really good for a remake.
- IHateScreenName, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Funny, the QT "480p" version is about 1/3 bigger than the DivX "480p" version (852 x 354 vs. 720 x 304). As for quality, I'd have to say that QT has it there, too. In looking at the scene where the transformer is revealed after the impact (time is 00:15.43) the grass in the background and the detail on the transformer itself if somewhat blurry in the DivX trailer and clearer in QT.
I'm not really sure where anyone gets by saying that DivX is better in this example, it clearly isn't. Take a real look yourself.
I'll take a longer download for a larger size and more quality any day. - woodchuckrules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's been 20yrs since I've seen transformers on the big seen. It feels very different but looks really good.
- secleinteer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The DivX version is DEFINITELY better for me. The .mov version wouldn't even play in VLC without freezing up after about 2 seconds. In Kaffeine, it was able to play all the way through, but was a little flickery. MPlayer wouldn't even touch it. The DivX version plays great in VLC, no problems at all. I tried to convert the .mov to DivX when the mov came out yesterday, but I couldn't figure out how to make Avidemux work. For those of you wondering why I don't just use QuickTime - Apple doesn't make a Linux version :P Not that I installed that piece of ***** on my Windows partition either.
- mastercko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh lord. First of all, there is a Mustang on the Decepticon side, so no, it's not a GM commercial.
Also, we live in a world of Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros (ok, Bumblebee's model won't be out till 2008), Hummer's and MH-53 Pave-lows (the helicopter), etc. So (story wise), they took those REAL WORLD models to blend in. ***** weird, yo. Odd how similar that sounds to the original Transformers premise. Cuz turning into made up cars and trucks and vehicles (in the story) to avoid the fanboy's dreaded call of "OH NO! Product Placement!" (IRL -- or at least on digg and other comment boards) makes so much more sense.
Third, I don't know if you've noticed this or not, but people in the real world wear shirts with logos on them. So a character has a shirt with a logo on it in the trailer. Boo hoo.
Finally, everyone wants to hate on Michael Bay, and I admit, I don't like most of his more recent works, but seriously. The Rock. Give the guy a chance. At least see a second trailer before judging, god.
That said, their transforming is a little too overdone. At least in the trailer, there's almost too many little moving parts everywhere. However, Earth robot-mode Optimus looks sweet. Sorry G1 purists, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. - dlaughland, on 01/20/2009, -2/+1Then stop complaining when your movie theater charges you $15 for a ticket.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2do the world a favor and don't pay to see it.
@shooby:
you didn't read what he said, obviously. he talked about several reasons. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1IMO the best and fastest version: http://video.vividas.com/CDN1/5029_paramount/en/web/
- delusion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Get a life. It's just a movie. No one's forcing you to see this movie, or put any money towards it.
Product placement has been happening since the dawn of television and film. Deal with it. -
