Even so, it will make $100+ million in its first weekend, with fans lining up & down the block to catch the 12:01 viewing. They will then complain about how bad it was, but they will have already spent their money.
This will just reinforce the habit among movie producers of making terrible sequels, since they know that by the time everyone realizes that they put no effort into making a good movie, they will have made gobs of money anyway.
When the trailer comes out, there will be a huge amount of hype on Digg. The trailer will have as big a budget as the movie itself, and everyone will love it. Everyone agreeing with me now will forget about this all and say "I can't wait to see that, the trailer looks AWESOME!!!!"
The week before the movie comes out, there will be a huge amount of hype on Digg, and everywhere else for that matter. - Neolite, on 01/09/2009, -0/+9I totally agree with this prediction. Yes overall it will be a bad movie. Yes it will make hundreds of millions of dollars. But you know what, I'm gonna see it anyways. You know why? Not because I expect to some amazingly elaborate and intelligent Dark Knight like plot that's going to put me on the edge of my seat. Not because I think there will be Oscar worthy acting in it.
I'm gonna watch it to see some mother ***** robots beat the living piss out of each other with explosions. I'm gonna watch it to appreciate the level of detail and work that goes into the visual effects of transforming man made vehicles into walking robotic war machines.
Who gives a ***** about the acting or the story. People are putting their expectations of movies like this too high and feel like they have wasted their money on a full priced ticket. But you know what, I would pay full price just to see all the visual effects alone with all the story elements edited out.

(also: the fallen in that mythology is charred black, and always on fire.... kinda like the real version of the poster, with its burning, flame-orange eyes.)

It wasn't a perfect copy of what I remembered as a kid but it was enough to get me out to the theater once (then to watch it once again when the DVD came out).

- fluidmatt, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1Like any movie based on a Franchise, fans will get more out of it than people being introduced for the first time. They also tend to have higher expectations, imagining that their favourite thing in the world deserves some sort of Godfather type treatment just because they like it so much. Look at the geek-hype surrounding Watchmen at the minute. Expect too much from Transformers 2, like a tight storyline, believable characters or emotional development, you are going to be dissapointed.
However, all signs so far point to more big robots in bigger fights than the first film. The thing that made the first movie awesome were the big robots in the big fights. So I am looking forward to it. -
