- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Is it me, or does Sweeney Todd sound like Captain Jack?
Here's the youtube link if anyone wants it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svP3HsJB5ng - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I cannot wait for this movie. It is one of the best musicals of all time (and one of my favorites) and the Burton/Depp team seem like a great choice to do a movie version.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Alan Rickman is the ***** man.
- dagnabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Nobody plays a dirty hag like Helena Bonham Carter. Fight Club, Big Fish, Sweeney Todd (does Corpse Bride count too?)
- AvengedSayian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Whenever those two get together (Burton and Depp) you know it's gonna be great.
- teeheehee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Tim Burton, Johnny Depp + blades, 2007 = Sweeney Todd
Tim Burton, Johnny Depp + blades, 1990 = Edward Scissorhands
How far we've come in 17 years. - dusingaz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Attend the tale of Sweeny Todd. The demon Barber from fleet.........street.
He shaved the faces of Gentlemen, who never there after were heard of again. - murasako, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Oh, so you plan on being annoying bastards?
- Thepirateking, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Haven't you got Poet or something like that?
- SLYK, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Those knocking depp:
This is a perfect depp role. It's very weird, very dark, and makes you go "Wtf?" for the first half hour.
I really wonder who'll play Beadle, Tobias, and Mrs. Lovett? - ShadyG, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Awful lot of fat.
- Genady, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Mmmmmm pie, such suculant pie....
- corsairstw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Only where it sat.
- RiotOfWords, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Then you have no idea what Sweeny Todd is about
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Yeah cause Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Corpse Bride were in black and white.
- steveguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I agree. They should make more silent shows, with mimes.
- ShadyG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7No you see, the trouble with poet is how do you know it's deceased? Stick to priest.
- twitchyneko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I would think so, and she was also Bellatrix Lestrange in HP, so she's definitely on a roll here.
- Thepirateking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This is about the best xmas gift I could ever hope for.

- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I think it's much better than seeing 9 remakes of classic horror movies, including ***** that Rob Zombie makes.
- corsairstw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Oh, I am a huge musical fan :) I'm actually majoring in musical theatre in college right now (I'm a freshman). Glad to see there are a few of us here on digg?
- GaidinTS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'm not sure if you've ever watched a musical on broadway, but I will agree that they are better on the stage then they are in movies, but that doesn't mean they don't make great movies also.
- grapesofbaath, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6That actually looks pretty promising. I was surprised to see Johnny Depp singing a bit in the trailer, I figured they wouldn't make it a musical. Not that I know if Johnny Depp can sing or not, but Sweeney Todd has some really difficult songs, it's almost like an operetta. I guess we'll have to wait until it comes out to see how much of Sondheim's music they kept in there.
- DKSINC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Can we ban this douchebag for putting a comment like this up?
- GaidinTS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I see we have some fans of the Musical. That's interesting, I wouldn't think there would be to many of those in the digg crowd. I for one am really excited about this movie.
- sittered, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Heavenly.
- tdelet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Sweeny Scissorhands and the Chocolate Factory?
- Moskie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5And what if none of their souls was saved?
They went to their maker impeccably shaved. - krackajap, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I am always hesitant about looking forward to movies based on musicals. The main problem is, i watch them for the music. It's not possible for a actor to give the same quality performance as someone who's career is singing. I guess that's why specialists for editing the sound.
There should be a Avenue Q movie lol - krackajap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4plot of the musical was dumbed down quite a bit. It was still greatly enjoyable but all it had in common with the book the title, character names, and the basic outline of the plot. A lot of the character personalities and development was changed
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Haha, nope. It's not just you. That was the first thing I thought when he spoke.
- monsterofNone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4he tread the path that few have trod,
did sweeny, did sweeney todd. - xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4There were reports that the studio forced Burton to cut a lot of the more violent/cannibal scenes to get a lower rating and keep the "family" audience for the Box Office. I hope a director's cut is released on the DVD...
- bytor4232, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Joachim: They're still running with shields down.
Khan: Of course! We're one big happy fleet! Ah, Kirk, my old friend, do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold?
[pause]
Khan: It is very cold in space!
- Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan - sittered, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No, that's true. Hot Topic is a chronic rapist of Tim Burton's intellectual property. It's going to happen with Sweeney Todd too. I'll start seeing shirts that miss the point of the movie (show) entirely.
*sigh* - Danielshapiro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm very familiar with this musical, being a Sondheim fan and stage managing it twice--and seeing the broadway revival last year. I'm already very disappointed that Tim Burton has payed no attention to the lines in the script at all, has included a visual backstory (the musical begins with Todd's arrival in London from Australia after his prison sentence is completed), and has shifted the traditional Todd baritone to Depp's tenor, all for, it appears, dark brown eyes that look good in lamp-black.
- invinciblenow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You forgot Sleepy Hollow
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Finish Rum Diary already, Depp!
- corsairstw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Haha, theatre dork ;-)
- Rachmaninoff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I wish they would adapt Gregory Maguire's book into a movie, not the Stephen Schwartz musical. I saw the musical on Broadway and it was a great show, but the book is so much better.
- AndySomnifac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3According to the Yahoo Movies page, it's rated R. So, it seems that it's not a very 'family' film.
- krackajap, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6With all the recent movies based off of musicals i wonder what the chances are of seeing a movie based on Wicked would be.
- Genady, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4actually my money is on Spamalot, the Movie!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sweeny Todd one of the best storys of all time. Can't wait to see it.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2Script review up here http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&t ...
Looks like they kept almost all of the music. :) - dreamxtime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This play is unbelievable onstage and I can't wait for the movie.
The music is fantastic but I wasn't aware that Johnny Depp could sing? Sweeney Todd has some pretty tricky singing bits ... - sittered, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Quite literally, in the movie.
