- ApplCmptrDood, on 03/11/2008, -2/+32Even though Rammstein is awesome, I thought that the music ruined The Bourne Identity's scene.
- SpicyViper, on 03/11/2008, -1/+26What about when Bilbo is wishing to hold Frodo's ring one last time and then suddenly goes all psycho-hobbit when Frodo buttons back up? I jumped a foot when I saw it on the big screen!
- Carramrod72, on 03/11/2008, -1/+23No video for several of the top 5?? Weak.
- MrFisty, on 03/11/2008, -0/+18They killed any "jumpiness" to the Bourne scene by throwing in that Rammstein track.
- muttamutta, on 03/11/2008, -1/+18Deep Blue sea! Who knew?
- iThenticJoce, on 03/11/2008, -5/+21Seven! Definitely jumped at that part! But I'm naturally jumpy.
- LStone, on 03/11/2008, -3/+18I would love to watch the Bourne scene without the frigging Ramstien
- Arrestedevelopr, on 03/11/2008, -2/+16That was actually a pretty lame list.
- magicbullets, on 03/11/2008, -2/+15You missed the original Japanese version of Ring. Just for the bit at the end, where she crawls out of the TV. Now that REALLY made me jump, which is never a good thing when you're in the process of ***** yourself.
- chazizzle, on 03/11/2008, -0/+9The original Jaws movie where the overweight guys get wasted in the dingy. The diver goes underneath to pick the tooth from the hull and one of the heads pops out. Yeah that still freaks me out. Eye ball hanging out and all.
- Reaktor5, on 03/11/2008, -2/+9How about the scene in The Ring when she opens that closet door to find the corpse of that girl?
Always creeps me out. - sevenout7, on 03/11/2008, -1/+8They picked the wrong scene from "The Thing." The best "jumper" scene of all time, was the blood test. PERIOD.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eZT-f8hzXo - tapo, on 03/11/2008, -0/+7So dugg for The Thing. That's one of the few moments when I've been actually scared ***** by a movie.
- MrsButtersworth, on 03/11/2008, -2/+8That subtitle is ***** stupid.
- o0JoeCool0o, on 03/11/2008, -2/+7The thing rofl nice
- flipcritic, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5Dugg for THE THING. So many jumpy moments in that film. The best of which is "the blood test" scene (which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned). You'll know it when you see it.
- allfatherblack, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5Hahaha I remember watching Deep Blue Sea for the first time and when that scene started I said to myself "This is the most blatant setup for a surprise ass-eating ever" and hey, it was.
- cnot3, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5A *****' SHARK ATE ME!
- archivist, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5No Jacob's Ladder?
- T440, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5The part in Dawn of the Dead, when they're walking around checking to make sure doors are locked and the mall is safe, and that bloody zombie smashes up against the glass doors...yeah, that was a pretty jumpy movie moment.
I would have preferred that to be on this rather than 2 moments from the same movie. - michaelschmitt, on 03/11/2008, -0/+4When Regan's mother was in the attic searching for the source of ominous noises in The Exorcist and her candle burst into a huge flame, I just about jumped out of my skin.
- antonio97b, on 03/11/2008, -0/+4I would put Carrie above Seven. In seven it was already a tension filled moment. That made me more prepared. In Carrie however, it was a completely peaceful scene until the sound changes and the hand comes up out of the dirt. It completely catches you off guard.
- no1nos, on 03/11/2008, -1/+5Jurassic Park - When Laura Dern turns the power back on to the fences and proclaims "We're back in business", and the raptors smash through the fence right behind her...
I remember being in the front row for that movie as a kid, that was the last time I sat in the front row. - hackiavelli, on 03/11/2008, -3/+6The girl being hit by the bus in Final Destination should be on the list.
- paidhima, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3I believe it was confirmed by one of the actors in a documentary that, while they knew something was going to come out of him, they didn't know what it would look like. They also didn't know that there would be so much blood splattered all over them. In fact, when it occurred, several of the cast were shocked that the alien looked so realistic. The reactions are (mostly) real.
- satanswetnipple, on 03/11/2008, -4/+7Completely rubbish. Try American Werewolf in London. It set the standard for hundreds of movies to follow. The dream within a dream, the zombie in the mirror...
Even 13 Ghosts has a few good jumps. - inactive, on 03/11/2008, -5/+8There is a chance that this is the worst list ever made. Not only does the person that wrote it apparently not watch a lot of movies (which is OK..except when you are writing a list about MOVIES!) but I think EVERYONE watching that crappy movie knew that SOMETHING was going to happen to Samuel L. Jackson. Sure...I didn't specifically guess that he was going to get bitten in half...but it was the biggest cliche scene EVER. Anyone who didn't know that he was about to get attacked apparently has never watched suspense/horror/action movies before.
Anyone who jumped out of surprise when that scene happened probably is also surprised when the killed suddenly comes back to life for one final lunge at the end of any horror movie. - roanne, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3Do you even know what a colostomy bag is? Lame intro.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3That's right, and somehow 'not knowing what the alien model looked like' has become "the cast didn't know what was going on".
Because I'm a bit of an Alien geek, I've got an original copy of the script (signed, too), and the whole scene is described quite clearly. - Grimdotdotdot, on 03/11/2008, -2/+5Damnit, the cast of Alien knew *exactly* what was going to happen - you don't cover your actors in blood when they're not expecting it if you want them to come back the next day.
They may look scared, but that's what actors do - they *act*. - Capskid8, on 03/11/2008, -1/+3dugg for 9 and not 10
- roxycat, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Misery when she breaks his legs. May be more of a cringe than a jump, though.
- lektroluv, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Alien autopsy scene in Independence Day.
E O D. - ElRayQuieres, on 03/11/2008, -1/+3The Forgotten made me jump more than any of these, because the jumpy scenes were completely unexpected. Perhaps it was because I saw it in the theater.
http://www.vimeo.com/277180 (the title kind of ruins this one)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1Ti_FbgdU3s - mal1964, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2That got me out of my seat, you are absolutely right. I was going to post the same comment.
- syncpulse, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2I still have the marks on my arm where my date grabbed me and sunk her nails in during the sloth scene in se7en. probably my all time favorite movie jumper.
- funkymonkey01, on 03/11/2008, -2/+4Creepy, but not really a jumper!!
- dartmanx, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2"I guarantee NOTHING."
- skaughtm, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2the TUESDAY title card in the shining made me jump.
- dartmanx, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Thats because noone ever UNDERSTANDS Mulholland Drive.
- doctechnical, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2I've got to ask you about that Penis Mighter. Does it really work?
- AoiTakuma, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Great movie. great soundtrack. stay off of the moors.
- iamondigghaha, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Yes. The way it's presented definitely made it a jumper for me.
- magicbullets, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Now that WAS a scary-ass film. Good shout.
- AoiTakuma, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2no digg. not a very well made list and most importantly didnt have Poltergeist. Near the end when the clown jumps from under the bed. I jump every time, I know its coming but I still jump
- mastermagician, on 03/11/2008, -1/+3Awww...Nobody ever mentions Mulholland Drive.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=g6rqrGqj1C0
(I swear to God this is not rick roll.) - DestroyPoseurs, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2I was thinking about the scene with the nurse going through the patients in Exorcist III as one of the jumpiest. While as a whole the movie is nowhere near as good as the original, that one scene is perfectly set up. The long drawn out buildup that lets you know something is going to happen, the fake scare that makes you think that that was what you were waiting for, and then that final moment that scares the ever loving piss out of you.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/11/2008, -0/+228 days, the first one, we saw it in the theater. Some of the zombies jumping out almost killed everyone in the theater with panic, wost I've ever jumped including being a kid.... literally, they stopped the movie and Paramedics took out an old gentleman that just had some kind of heart surgery, we know this because the movie theater explained why they had stopped the movie.
- silentvelcro, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1"the descent", just by mentioning the movie, given it wasn't a great flick... theres one scene where I think I actually was completely airborn
- clockb0x, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1Anybody see The Orphanage? The part where the old lady gets hit by the car and then when she screams when she dies made me jump harder than anything in recent memory. Probably the closest I've come to actually yelling out loud.
