- otep, on 10/11/2007, -5/+40--
Using this logic, the Bible isn't for kids either.
-- - Kakou, on 10/11/2007, -9/+34wow.... this was a less than covert way to just slander the series. Fallacies stack up and inaccurate premises run amok! This guy should write for Tony Snow.
- Kahnza, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24I'm functionally retarded.
- manmademark, on 10/11/2007, -12/+33actually, I double checked. Harry Potter IS for kids, you're just a ***** with too much time on his hands.
- wm2010russ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20It's difficult to imagine wanting to help your best friend defeat Voldemort when you know he'll be celebrating afterwards by casting "Disapearro Clothesimo" on your sister.
hahahaaaaaaaahahah - rephil513, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16I like what Ned Flanders has to say...:)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=heCUEtPIl2M - Waskonator, on 10/11/2007, -11/+24Dugg for using the term "golden snatch". My imagination runs wild...
- KeyLimePie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Because Hermione filled out?
- Narfmaster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Lmao! That's worth a digg on it's own.
- nikkilai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10MUCH more interesting than the cracked.com article!
- MadOtaku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I love the books, but this is funny. It's not supposed to be true, it's satire.
- Drahkar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I think I would find it funnier if it wasn't for the fact that there are people who view the Harry Potter series just like this. People who are actively trying to get the series banned for similar reasons.
- Tsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8WTF. That came out of nowhere.
- hadiz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I think with the progression of the books the series becomes less and less children/young adult/mentally handicapped oriented.
- jmpeagle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10it's a joke...not serious...way to not understand the article
- Rell812, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8bah, it's a children's book. And I eagerly await the final installment.
- TheLD, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Harry gets some from Hermione in the last book. You mark my words.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Hermione dies? :P
- MasterGrief, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10CRACKED.com lists are never funny. Simple as that.
- DforSpiD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7And they aren't qualities you want in your kids?
- swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7hahaha oh wow
I will never be able to read Harry Potter again - Tankslap, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Fricken functionally retarded adults always ruining ***** for the rest of us.
- MusicalGenius, on 10/11/2007, -11/+17I actually have a lot of issues with these claims..
1. Quidditch is a sinful sport? I don't exactly fantasize about playing the game, but sinful? Whatever.
2. The White supremacy issue bothers me. Sorry but lets start telling our kids that nothing that bad every happens and see how the world turns out.
3. I wouldn't call Harry a great role model either, but that's hardly enough to say it isn't for kids when he generally wants good and most role models for children today are well... LESS than great.
4. I would agree that Moaning Myrtle is VERY screwed up. BUT the whole Parent Trap being a bad thing for kids to see? Not everyone has great parents. It's something that people can relate to. OH I forgot... a LOT of people can relate to. And they aren't really his parents... But there is nothing wrong with saying that they are horrible people if they have him sleep in a cupboard(closet in the movie).
5. Murder? Children have to know someday what murder is. See, when a parents gets a new gold fish so Jr. doesn't know that it died... They aren't letting their child learn AT ALL!! Children have to learn eventually. They don't need to watch something horrifically gory, no. But to never show them a movie where someone is killed is ridiculous. I guess they shouldn't watch Nemo cause mommy dies... Oh, and don't let us forget the wonderful tale of BAMBI!!
The racially impure and parent issues I can understand the author using but they were used poorly and there are better things that could have been argued. All in all it is a great story which for the most part I think is very suitable for Children. This is one of the poorest excuses of an "article" that I've ever seen. - Neiby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6If you had actually read the books you would understand that they're not just for kids. In fact, younger kids wouldn't understand the complexity and nuances in the storyline. They'd still enjoy it, but they won't get as much out of it as an older reader. These are definitely not kiddy stories.
- lowerlogic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Overall it was an interesting article, but I think the whole "golden snatch" analogy is stretching it a bit.
- elhutcho, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7It's satire. You know, the stuff that is usually found in the adult section.
- MadOtaku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5That makes the whole affair more amusing to me. Same reason I like Colbert; it makes fun of people whose idiocy would otherwise scare/worry me.
- Crono, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6That is offensive. Just because your an adult and you like Harry Potter does not mean your retarded in any way.
- ExistentialFunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Wait...so does this mean I'm not adopted?
- thefirelane, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Submitters, write summaries like this... even if this is from the article, I don't care... make it more interesting and funny.
We don't need to become fark, but a little effort and humor should be rewarded - spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6lol stretching and snatch in the same sentence.
- Char1ie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5True, the series isn't in the adult section... However, JK Rowling has said that she had no specific age in mind when writing the books.
- lukasmach, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10Of course it isn't. Bible is a racist sexist book that spreads hatred and homophobia.
- eplawless, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5What other kind of stupid is there?
- Quantumsparrow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's the interesting thing, though. People keep saying "Man, Harry Potter keeps getting darker and darker!" but they don't think about the fact that J.K. Rowling's original target audience is around 4 to 7 years older than they were when they first started reading the series. She's handling it appropriately--instead of writing the same way for all of the books, she changes with the characters and with the readers.
More mature and more able to handle mature themes. - Yage2006, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8WTF is this lame ***** ?
Buried . - eridius, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I've been saying for years, the first book was written for kids. Then the next year, the second book was targeted at the exact same audience. And the year after that, the third book was again targeted at the same audience. And so on. The thing is, the audience got older with each book, and so each book got darker and more adult.
So yeah, the 6th book isn't for kids. But the first was. - slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Its alright as long as kids are enjoying it.
- Stunn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Harry Potter has convinced a lot of kids to start reading. My 13 year old cousin is reading and enjoying 600 page books. I rather he read a book than watch a show like Family Guy which I think kids his age shouldn't be watching.
- Trax91, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Read their Worst Transformers List and Summer Blockbuster Guranteed to Dissapointed List and you will know why they DON'T rock.
- LandStander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Optimus Prime kills Dumbledore!
- undersky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2no no no, what i meat was, these reasons aren't valid toward the book. i think the story itself from the book is actually very positive and inspiring. when a person talks about harry potter, unless otherwise clarified, should refer to the book, not the movie.
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wait. Porn is satire?
- feebie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I see that it's satire. But the fact is, to people who have actually read the books, it seems like a really ignorant article. It still could be funny, and funnier still, if he had actually gotten his facts right and had read the books. It would be even better satire in my opinion if it weren't written out of ignorance.
- Neiby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Exactly. This would have been easier to spot as satire if it had actually been funny.
- sabach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have no faith in the human race if they think they think that retarded people deserve ridicule, what a bunch of degenerates. They're far more more retarded than any retarded people I know.
- no1joel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4It was an interesting read, but not much there was true, it all felt really forced and contrived
- undersky, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I have a feeling the author of the list based his thesis on the movie, which is like a 5% watered-down, superficial version of the book.
- MadOtaku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes.
