- Jagula, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22List sucks. Buried as lame.
Where's Half-life? - MartyMcFly713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think PONG: THE MOVIE would be ill.
- Grumby24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Uh hello, what about Half-Life????
Oh yeah, I forgot, "Children of Men". - nimawin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I can't believe Metal Gear Solid is not on the list!
- BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Seriously, this should just have been labeled "Five random games that should be made into movies".
- IEatHamburgers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Duke Nukem would be cool.
Too bad they'd never finish production. - kiiwii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow, no Legend of Zelda?
If done right, it could be amazing. Just imagine a teaser trailer with the overworld theme playing in the background... I'd be there opening day! - euphemizeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Daikatana.... it couldn't possibly disappoint.
But honestly, Duke Nukem would be a sweet Tarantino film. - NICU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I want to see a Kingdom Hearts movie. Disney won't allow it, but it'd be cool.
- ericdano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Oh, we all saw how good Doom was......
http://imdb.com/title/tt0419706/ - WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a stupid list. Hire a real blogger, msnbc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Fallout would make an amazing film, and Deus Ex has possibilities. Just don't let Sci-Fi ham it up with a direct-to-cable treatment.
- AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@dcbebop
Hollywood's been making that list for years. - AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Speaking of old-school, The Secret of Monkey Island would've made a great movie.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I cannot believe they didn't list half life or metal gear solid.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Metal Gear Solid is already a movie anyway. I love the game, but there's nearly as many cutscenes as gameplay.
I think that Knights of the Old Republic should have been a movie. It had a better plot than any of George Lucas's crap that he called "Star Wars Prequels." - Karma85, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Deus Ex, Fallout, Diablo, Planescape: Torment.... now those would make banging movies.. as long as UWE BOLL had nothing to do with them.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ericdano, hopefully none of us saw it.
- xniL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3no CASTLEVANIA?!
Seriously, I am surprised that did not make the list.. - dcbebop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Where's the top5 list of games that SHOULDN'T have been movies?
- fossor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lots of other great games are not on the list either. any of the final fantasys would make a great movie.
did any of you noticed that the article is on msn.com? or that all the games are xbox games??? now im sure some of you may disagree but i feel that the author's opinion is very bias. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Infinity
Ever see Castaway? - mike81890, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With the financial success I can't imagine it'll be long until Gears of War is made into a movie.... Damn moneygrubbing bastards!!
- quantumHobbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All better than the list in the link.
Half life, Baldur's Gate, and Grim Fandango would be good too. Granted only Tim Burton could pull off Grim Fandango.
Whoever made the list on the link seems to only have a 3 year memory of video games. Ok Metroid is old school, but there have been recent sequels. - nonpareil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Excite Bike - all the way.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fear Effect. Lesbian assasins!
- underthelinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Reallly? F.E.A.R. was written like a movie - that game terrified me. I think the movie aspect practically writes itself, ripe with plot twists and cliff hangers. The only reason i finished the game was to find out what happened at the end.
- 350Zed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Starcraft:Ghost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft:_Ghost) died during game development, but it may have turned out to be a good movie concept. The extreme popularity of the Starcraft franchise in Korea alone could provide a big enough market to justify production.
If the Duke Nuke'em Forever fiasco hadn't destroyed the image of that franchise, with a formerly loyal following, it could also have been a candidate. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Incidentally, after I saw 300 I couldn't wait to get home and break out GoW II.
- laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm gonna say make Maniac Mansion into a Goonies/Stand By Me type of film.
Could provide fuzzy childhood recollections to a whole new generation. - cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Resident Evil? Super Mario? Doom? Street Fighter? Mortal Kombat? Dead or Alive? Final Fantasy?
Oh sorry, those are games that *should not* of become movies. - Mojay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would love to see the next chapter of Shenmue as a movie, since a new game is highly unlikely.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As epic as a SOTC movie would be, it just wouldn't work on film. One actor can't carry an entire movie.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your opinion doesn't hold up to box office and video game sales/popularity...
1. Resident Evil
2. GoldenEye
3. Star Wars
4. Pokemon
5. The Chronicles of Riddick - tylerfulltilt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no shadow of the colossus or Ico on the list. marked as inaccurate.
- stormgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Pacman? Come on!
But seriously, I don't think games lend themselves well to movies. Even "epic" ones like Zelda or whatever. They just end up bad. - macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be cool seeing some of them as movies, but sadly they'll never work.
Video games work because you get engrossed in the character, controlling their moves, getting upgrades. With a movie, you get to passively absorb a character who is much harder to relate to.
When something gets turned into a movie, studios try and attach an elaborate story to it where there really doesn't need to be in a video game. Controlling Samus to charge up your rifle and continuously blow up aliens is awesome. Watching it over and over again with some lame story to it, not so much. - doctechnical, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm old-school, I'm voting for "Hunt the Wumpus".
- IEatHamburgers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It could be decent as long as it was set 14 years before the game (E-Day). Even then it would give the writers nightmares coming up with a compelling storyline.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Phone Booth has more than one speaking actor, did it not?"
Just barely. You can't have seen that movie and not say that the majority of the plot was carried by one character. - Feanor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Gears of War - hell its practically movie quality as is.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why wouldn't Disney Allow it? They make the bloody movies.
- mxpx5678, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MSNBC's website is awful, i hate the portions of their site that are like that list, instead of being ajax or something it refreshes the page every time and reloads everything it is so inefficient and slow.
- MasterChi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Resident Evil is a movie I personally am glad was a movie, I also think the first Mortal Kombat wasn't bad. Games can become fantastic movies its just the directors that screw it all up trying to change things around and just making it one big mess. I think most games nowadays such as Metal Gear are more intriguing then movies though Metal Gear is four times longer then a movie so it wouldn't be something you would sit in a theater for with no pause lol. I guess now that I write it out, its the length that kills the directors and causes the game to movie conversion to suck since they try to pack so much into 2 to 3 hours.
- 350Zed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hands-down, GEARS OF WAR is the clear omission from this list. It's got the most spin-off sales potential of any game launched in recent memory.
You have to consider mass-market appeal, not just personal nostalgia, when considering this topic.
F.E.A.R. was a brilliant game, but it isn't as much of a "household name" as Gears of War is, therefore its success is limited in terms of offering profitable spin-offs. - TheDuckHat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's God of War? You could make at least three non-stop action oriented movies from the current two games and its upcoming sequel. It even has a perfect movie-like storyline!
- frombeyond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can tell what this persons politics are. She chooses a female lead, a Persian hero (to balance "300"), and an Indian, er I mean, native american.. Politically correct video game movies.
- gamesector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's safe to say that you're a dick.
- mthmchris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's obvious that the little known RPG Chrono Trigger had the best story of any videogame, and would make the best movie.
- Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just wanted to add that Prince of Persia IS being made into a film, it's in the early stages of pre-production though.
