- starfisch, on 10/07/2008, -3/+60Cloverfield wasn't post-apocalyptic or top 5 anything.
- beermaker, on 10/06/2008, -1/+52There are just 2 POST-Apocalyptic movies on that list.
- yoyofoshow, on 10/07/2008, -3/+48Children of Men. FTW!
- danwallace, on 10/07/2008, -0/+43What a ***** list.
- alexacastro, on 10/07/2008, -1/+32*****. Where’s 12 Monkeys!? A Boy and His Dog? Dawn of the Dead (the CLASSIC zombie movies?) The Day The Earth Stood Still?
This is the most retarded ***** list. The Day After Tomorrow was HORRIBLE, AS WAS THE HAPPENING, Doomsday was only so-so (that car chase at the end, puh-lease).
This list is damn terrible. - NoozeHound, on 10/07/2008, -3/+34Cloverfield? Get to *****.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+28Cloverfield instead of A Boy and His Dog ?!
this is what happens when you let children make lists. way buried - sumokitty, on 10/06/2008, -2/+21 i think 28 weeks later was a better vision of a deserted England.
- yomamaisfat, on 10/07/2008, -0/+19It's official; any list will make the front page of Digg.
- Protoss, on 10/07/2008, -3/+22Children of Men has to be one of my all-time favorite movies.
- familynight, on 10/07/2008, -0/+17"Hi, I'm probably the biggest science fiction fan around. I started watching movies almost five years ago when I was ten and my older brother lent me his copy of The Road Warrior, so I'm pretty much an expert. I think I'll write an article for my stupid blog because I couldn't find any new motivational posters to steal and I'm a moron. Then, it's back to commenting at Youtube and asking questions at Yahoo Answers."
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -3/+20The 2008 U.S. Elections. Coming this November
- Protoss, on 10/07/2008, -2/+18I thought the exact opposite, imho 28 Days Later was a much better movie.
- Sornos, on 10/07/2008, -0/+15Love that movie. Absolutely fantastic directing. Watch the long scenes of the war zone and the car ride. Great use of sound and music. A++ would watch again.
- Jektal, on 10/06/2008, -2/+17Ugh, I'm torn on digging or burying this.
On the bad side of things they list I Am Legend without apparently knowing anything about the message of the book (thus their reference to the evolved Vampires as Zombies), and they list 28 Days Later and not the far superior 28 Weeks Later.
On the plus side, they list Road Warrior and not the far inferior Mad Max or Thunderdome, and they list Children of Men, which is one of the most bad-ass movies ever, post-apocalyptic or not.
Also worthy of note: The Postman - Jektal, on 10/06/2008, -3/+17Absolutely. 28 Days Later started really strong, and then after the Dad died it all fell apart.
They encounter a squadron of well fortified and highly trained soldiers who are *all* sex-starved rape monsters after ~30 days of collapsed society. Really? None of these soldiers could hold back their testosterone? None of them wanted the girl and thought it'd be better to try and win her over by protecting her?
And then our hero becomes ***** Rambo out of nowhere and kills everything.
Hell, they didn't even know how to end it. Watch the DVD extras, they literally had 3 endings, and the one which wasn't actually filmed was arguably best.
On the other hand, 28 Weeks Later? Epic. - PrometheusPV, on 10/07/2008, -0/+14how about you watch some movies not at Walmart?
- TheMadPoet, on 10/06/2008, -0/+13They can't miss the original 1975 Rollerball http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073631/
They got the future right with the depiction of corporate fascism:
Bartholomew: [in a video conference with other corporate executives] In my opinion, we are confronted here with something of a situation. Otherwise, I would not have presumed to take up your time. Once again, it concerns the case of Jonathan E. We know we don't want anything extraordinary to happen to Jonathan. We've already agreed on that. No accidents, nothing unnatural. The game was created to demonstrate the futility of individual effort. And the game must do its work. The Energy Corporation has done all it can, and if a champion defeats the meaning for which the game was designed, then he must lose. I hope you agree with my reasoning. - soupdawg30, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12Basically this list is crap. At least they got #1 right.
- CrispyBeef, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12Digging you up for 12 Monkeys, Terry Gilliam is a living god. That film is brilliant from start to finish, I'd watch it more often if my g/f could understand what's going on. ;)
- Drahkar, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12The soldiers in that camp were deserters and cowards who were gathered together by the 'Lieutenant' with promises of women and power. They were not a single unit that devolved into that state.
- InsaneOni, on 10/07/2008, -1/+12Digg me down, but I say the exact opposite. American marines come to save the day? Please, that's really cheesy. The aesthetic of 28 Days Later was so much more powerful that that ***** they produced in 28 Weeks Later anyway.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -5/+15Disaster movie =/= post-apocalyptic.
Will Smith =/= worthy topic of conversation.
Buried - soupdawg30, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9Gotta dig you up for The Postman.
- eyepennies, on 10/07/2008, -1/+10I was raised on Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome. Saw it maybe a billion times, give or take. For better or for worse (ok, for worse) that is the standard for me. A few points:
1. Children of Men was a masterpiece, but it isn't technically post-apocalyptic.
2. While I don't agree with every movie on this list, at least he didn't stick The Postman or Waterworld on there.
3. Why has Kevin Costner been in two (bad) post-apocalyptic films?
4. Fallout and Fallout 2 are great games. Play them if you haven't.
5. Man, there just aren't enough awesome post-apocalyptic films out there. - kodax, on 10/07/2008, -1/+10Well, here is a better list:
Mad Max
Road Warrior
Dawn of the Dead (remake)
12 Monkeys
Planet of the Apes (original)
Omega Man
The Stand
Postman
Children of Men - cloud4197, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9Cloverfield = ***** and not post apocalyptic
I am legend = just plain *****
28 days later = 1st half brilliant. 2nd half rubbish. Terrible tagged-on-for-Hollywood final scene
Children of men = brilliant but debatable as to weather its post apocalyptic
Mad Max = brilliant
list = load of ***** - crocodial, on 10/07/2008, -1/+10honorable mention for The Happening???!!111 dugg down!!! dowwwnn!111122
- Jektal, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8And their "Honorable Mentions" list sucks too:
* The Day After Tomorrow
* Wall-E
* War of the Worlds
* The Happening
* Doomsday
Day after tomorrow? It's entertaining, if you're good at suspending your need for belief. Wall-E is great, but doesn't really fit in with this crowd. War of the Worlds is either not really POST-apocalyptic, or is a lack-luster high-budget remake which should have been left alone. The Happening was made by one-trick Shamala. And I haven't seen Doomsday... yet.. - shiv68, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8
I did not see The Omega Man on that list. Bunch of punk kids. - sumokitty, on 10/06/2008, -1/+9indeed plus it left a story for a 28 months later
- heavystone, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8Since when the hell is Cloverfield, 28 Days Later, and Children of Men taking place in a Post-Apocalyptic Movie??? Clearly the writer has no idea what the term means!
At least he got Mad Max right. Another Post-Apocalyptic movie that i actually enjoyed i Waterworld....don't forget The Matrix movies.... - FriedTurkey, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8No Night of the Comet?
http://www.fast-rewind.com/nightcomet.htm
Loved that movie as a kid. - snowblind113, on 10/07/2008, -2/+9I'm stuck.. Should I bury for Cloverfield, or digg for Children of Men?
- ninjarabbits, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7Two Men Enter, One Man Leaves!
- sacxnz, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6The Quiet Earth.
- thinboyslim, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6This list just reminds me that I can't wait for The Road to come out.
- acidbaath, on 10/07/2008, -2/+8ugh I am legend
- Chicken2nite, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6http://www.rusticgirls.com/reviews/10-best-post-ap ...
IMO, this list is far superior to the one submitted, with its lack of honorable mention to The Day After Tomorrow, inclusion of more than one movie NOT made in the 2000's which includes one I've never heard of, and another I haven't finished watching (Omega Man).
Day of the Dead was pretty awesome. Even Diary of the Dead was worthy of watching. Romero Rules. The End. - socoolisme, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Cloverfield WTF, although it was not post-apocalyptic.
- malignatius, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Delicatessen? Hardware? 12 Monkeys? This list sucks!
- InsaneOni, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Why the ***** would you ruin like that for people? I loved the surprise of that ending.
- Averness, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5You just did the same thing he did.
28 Days -is- better than 28 weeks.
Terminator 2 -is- better than Terminator 1. - BradBrown, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5In lieu of Cloverfield, I'd like to submit "Hardware" to the running:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099740/ - darkpl, on 10/07/2008, -2/+6This list is *****. Cloverfield? Who the ***** would list this movie as post-apocalyptic? I am Legend is just another Hollywood crap. 28 days later is no better, all those movies has zombies+few people, where the hell is something original in them? Children of Men is very okay, fine movie, worth watching. But again, this is not post-apocalyptic. Mad Max is the only movie, which should be on the list without making normal people to say '*****, this guy seen nothing'.
- scarwars, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/nshowmovie.htm ...
- quelcertoleo, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5The Day After, 1983.
- godofallcows, on 10/07/2008, -2/+628 weeks later was a ***** disgrace to the first movie.
- Satenru, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4You mean "Cloverfield FTW"...
- DarkoKun, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3What kind of crappy list is this. Remove it from my face at once! *Presses back*
