- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -2/+73I don't see any Ghostbusters.
One of the top selling comedy films of the 1980s and one of my favorite films... - representDLV, on 11/09/2008, -2/+51Empire Strikes Back
Raider's of the Lost Ark
Ghostbusters
Back To the Future
The Princess Bride - middl3name, on 11/09/2008, -2/+47Buried for the exclusion of Raiders of the Lost Ark
- jericho4119, on 11/09/2008, -5/+46No Blade Runner?!
I know this list is more on the comedic side of the wire, but without Blade Runner there would be no Matrix - IMHO. - manzplan, on 11/09/2008, -6/+44THe Breakfast Club - lovely movie.... my favorite from the 80's.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -2/+35Your mom, who is bi and large, sucked.
- AndrewDB, on 11/09/2008, -5/+37This list is terrible.
- G0dspeed, on 11/09/2008, -2/+33This is definitely the WORST list I ever saw.
Not one movie on that list is better than any of these
Terminator
Die Hard
Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
FMJ
Blade Runner
Amadeus
Elephant man
Aliens
Indiana Jones - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -4/+25Kill him with fire.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -7/+28As a child of the 80's, I think the list is perfect. If I was someone who was an adult during the 80's, I would probably think differently.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -3/+22Burn the heretic!
- sixcrows, on 11/09/2008, -4/+21Geez, that list sucks.
- RobotKeaton, on 11/09/2008, -0/+16I think something's wrong with my computer. I know that Caddyshack has to be on this list, but I can't find it anywhere.
- RomanThommassen, on 11/09/2008, -2/+17Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Shining
Raging Bull
Amadeus
Blade Runner
Die Hard
Scarface
Aliens
terminator
I SAY: PATHETIC LIST. - andrewlotta, on 11/09/2008, -3/+17You are out of your mind.
- d0nkeym0nkey, on 11/09/2008, -4/+18Where the ***** are The Breakfast Club and Blade Runner on that (fail) list? Karate Kid over those two = insta-fail.
- fevredream, on 11/09/2008, -35/+48I hope I'm not taking anyone's childhood memories and ***** on them or anything....but Goonies is a horrific movie.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -3/+16Where the ***** is Wargames?
- myattus, on 11/09/2008, -5/+17Truffle Shuffle!
- coltrane68, on 11/09/2008, -5/+17This sounds like a list made by someone who was an eleven year-old boy at the time of Karate Kid's release. The only movie that really belongs on a "best-of" list is Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -4/+15Where's Better Off Dead? Can't boil down an entire era of movies down into a list of five. And still, I agree with everything on that list being good.
- Stormwern, on 11/09/2008, -1/+12Terrible list. The empire strikes back, raiders of the lost ark, aliens, some of the best movies of all time..
- Foenetik, on 11/09/2008, -2/+13weak...
- BigDaddyBucyk, on 11/09/2008, -3/+14 Buried for Goonies. what about Bladerunner, Excalibur, Blue Velvet, Barfly or Brasil ?
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+11Came to make that exact point. A film that, unlike the Karate Kid, holds up well 24 years later.
Jeez, 24 years. - chuckDontSurf, on 11/09/2008, -1/+11Holy *****. That was awesome.
- adml_shake, on 11/09/2008, -8/+18Well now that you've given your opinion on it, you can go back to shooting puppies in front of children, voting republican, and dressing up like Julie Newmar.
- andyb747, on 11/09/2008, -1/+11"Top 5 Movies from the 80's"
and then...
"A list of some pretty damn good flicks from the 1980s"
so are they the top 5 or just pretty damn good?? WTF?? - bonlebon, on 11/09/2008, -1/+11No ET or Raiders of the lost ark? This digg is BS B U R I E D!!!!
- gamer_013, on 11/09/2008, -2/+12Tron???
- MagMan68Classic, on 11/09/2008, -3/+13Dugg for Back To The Future
- RobotKeaton, on 11/09/2008, -0/+9Goodfellas came out in 1990.
- Chewie67, on 11/09/2008, -3/+12Really? Come on. I was a teen in the 80's, and only half of this list has any credibility.
Ferris and Back To The Future are great movies.
Top Gun is a bit hoakey, but at the time it was a cultural phenomenon.
The Karate Kid and The Goonies were AWFUL movies. Predictably, sappy, and incredibly CHEESY. They were bad in the 80's, and they don't hold up well today either.
Where are Die Hard and Raiders of the Lost Arc? Easily two of the top 25 movies of all time, and released in 1988 and 1981 respectively.
Also what about:
Risky Business
Empire Strikes Back
Blues Brothers
Breakfast Club
Stripes
48 Hours
Ghostbusters
Platoon
Rain Man - diggit08, on 11/09/2008, -2/+11Anyone remember Wall Street?
- pedo, on 11/09/2008, -1/+10http://www.imdb.com/chart/1980s
duh - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -1/+10Way to copypaste from the blog's comments. :P
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+8Ghostbusters is one of the highlights of the 1980 era of films!
- megapeg, on 11/09/2008, -0/+8I was just about to say the same thing. No Ghostbusters = No Digg.
- archer104, on 11/09/2008, -1/+9greatest burn I have seen for some time
- hellbent6, on 11/09/2008, -0/+8no Fast Times at Ridgemont High ?
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+7You're right..... That's ***** up!
- AGONYTUESDAY, on 11/09/2008, -0/+7fantastic list except for ***** top gun. ***** Top Gun.
- jfg84, on 11/09/2008, -0/+7Are you kidding me?
Amadeus? Blue Velvet? Do the Right Thing? Down By Law? Last Temptation of Christ?
Even if we are sticking to nostalgic comedies, I'd put Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Caddyshack and National Lampoon's Vacation above all of those. The list should be called "Movies a lot of people remember". - xtraa, on 11/09/2008, -1/+8*Breakfast Club* is definitive missing :) :)
(spoiler alert)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBytH7ljp3c - ohsokool, on 11/09/2008, -1/+7The Breakfast Club > Goonies anyday.
- jab46, on 11/09/2008, -0/+6I guess I am the only person who hated Top Gun and Tom Crusie back then .... that choice needs to be replaced.
Roman Thommas your picks are great! - leamanc, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6Yeah! I love Raider is of the Lost Ark!
- muffcakes, on 11/09/2008, -3/+9spaceballs?
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+6No Ghostbusters = something strange in the neighborhood
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+6That's the ONLY comedy that should be on here. It doesn't just stop at Ghostbusters though.
There were a lot of other great films like Return of the Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, Terminator, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, Batman (1989), The Shining, I could go on...
How is Karate Kid, Ferris Bueller, Top Gun, and The Goonies better than these films? Back the Future was the best of this list, but it's in no way better than a lot of these other films... -
