It is AWESOME!
If you saw the remake (which is a satire+musical), you would think "They have to be making this stuff up. Nobody is stupid enough to believe that is how marijuana affects people. This is funny and all, but they're exaggerating, right?!?!"
If you watch the original, it is all too apparent that the parody remake was not far from the truth of the first film. Any person actually interested in prohibition reform (not just getting blazed) would appreciate the historical context of the film, and I think it helps understand the era of yellow journalism & reefer madness that plagued that generation, which helps to understand why it's so hard to rationalize prohibition reform to older persons. - vtbarrera, on 10/06/2009, -2/+7You've obviously never smoked a ***** of pot and then watched that movie.

In my day it was Cheech and Chong smoking some fat doobies, but these days the kids are huffin' the poop fumes and smoking their saliva, it's just crazy! I can't keep up with these crazy drugs any more...

Obviously you can't hallucinate on Cannabinoids, however the intense internal effect marijuana can have by experiencing such a visually psychadelic film, I believe the term "trip balls" can loosely be applied. I don't know about your emotional reactions to that film, but maybe you should smoke some better stuff. Just a suggestion, then maybe you can understand what I'm trying to say.

But, wait, there's more discouraging news! Have you ever seen Hunter S. Thompson speak in public? It's pretty hit and miss. Once when I saw him he was okay, though he had trouble holding a coherent thread. The next time he was an incoherent drunk douche bag who was hardly worth a penny, much less $10.
Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs is a really interesting read, but what he was recognized for, his greatest contribution truly to American writing was The Great Shark Hunt and the kind of "Gonzo Journalism" one finds in it. THAT, my friend, is a damn good book and the real reason the literati revere a drunk dick like him. Don't have any illusions about him either; had you met him when he was alive he would either have ***** with your head or insulted you. -
