- lowquarter, on 08/30/2009, -6/+141Are you kidding, they NEED to remake Blade Runner, wouldn't it be so much better with bullet time, excessive CGI, a craptastic script (that sets up a trilogy) an emo band soundtrack and, of course, Megan Fox?
- AngryDeuce, on 08/30/2009, -6/+122Some of these are waaaaay too new to even think it would be considered. C'mon, Minority Report?? Eternal Sunshine?? (I don't think I even consider that Sci Fi honestly)
I'll tell you what, thought, if anyone tries to remake E.T., 2001, or Blade Runner, I'm driving to their house and kicking them in the balls. Those movies stand on their own quite well... - tbone8978, on 08/30/2009, -0/+91Um Star Wars anyone? I know its been raped recently with the newer 3 but the original trilogy should never ever be remade.
- B1665r, on 08/30/2009, -1/+84I think you are mistaken, there was only the one Matrix movie.
- h4mx0r, on 08/30/2009, -1/+71directed by Uwe Boll and produced by Michael Bay.
- theDashRendar, on 08/30/2009, -1/+71Michael Bay:
"When Michel Gondry originally filmed 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' I think he had intedned for there to be massive laser battles and mech suits, but just never had the time or money to put it in. Now that I am richer and more famous than him, I can finally remake the movie as I think he intended it - starring Paul Walker and Megan Fox instead of those cheap hacks he had originally cast.
I can also finally replace Mark Ruffalo's character with a fuzzy CGI character I call 'Whambam Bonkers,' who is 100% digital and has a musical number halfway through.
When audiences see the scene where the Empire State building is destroyed by the robot baboons, I think they will finally be able to share my vision, and appreciate Eternal Sunshine for the masterpiece it truly should have been." - inactive, on 08/30/2009, -1/+56Seth Rogen as Deckerd.
- z3r0c0O1, on 08/30/2009, -1/+52Alien(s) anyone? Seems like one of the ones that Hollywood would most likely to add in cheesy CGI and lines to try and make more money.
Also, Metropolis should be up there as well. - BulkVanderhuge, on 08/30/2009, -1/+50Bastards better not even think of touching Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures.
- navidb, on 08/30/2009, -1/+49With Michael Cera as the...whatever, I couldnt even finish the sentence
- AmnesiacJack, on 08/30/2009, -0/+46If I wake up one day to find out that Michael Bay saw your post and took it to heart I may be forced to find your house, skin you alive, then wear your skin as a coat before being gunned down by the local police.
- gavdana, on 08/30/2009, -5/+5110: Minority Report

7: Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind
6: ET: The Extra Testicle

4: Dark City
3: Stalker
2: Blade Runner
1: 2001 - inactive, on 08/30/2009, -0/+43They shouldn't remake them, but you know within 10 years, at least one of these movies will be remade. And it will suck.
- Ultramagnus0001, on 08/30/2009, -2/+39Gattaca was awesome.
- Phernoree, on 08/30/2009, -1/+34I'm pretty sure Megan Fox is a replicant.
- TitaniumWarrior, on 08/30/2009, -3/+33I agree Star Wars should never be remade, but really I don't think the prequels were as bad as people say they were. I mean, they may not stack up the originals, and there may have been a few bad choices made for them, but not ALL of it was bad, there were still some good parts to it.
- inactive, on 08/30/2009, -4/+28Movies shouldn't be remade.
That is all. - redcard, on 08/30/2009, -2/+23I agree with 2001 , but it does break the rule of not having sequels. That movie did have a sequel.. 2010.
- inactive, on 08/30/2009, -1/+21Dune should probably be remade, but there is SOOO much about Lynch's version that I love. I didn't like the sci-fi mini series version either.
- tattertech, on 08/30/2009, -0/+20I agree with all your points except Eternal Sunshine not being sci fi. It's actually the best kind of sci fi - what a society would be like with a seemingly small but tremendously important technological advancement.
- fzammetti, on 08/30/2009, -0/+19I'm *basically* with you, I don't think they were *quite* as bad as some make them out to be.
The one thing I *will* definitely say, that I think is almost beyond argument, is that the prequels got better as they went on (overall I'm saying, someone could probably point out this thing or that thing that was worse than the prior movie).
I think episode III was (again, overall) roughly on par with Return of the Jedi frankly... sure, the Vader "coming out party" at the end damned near destroyed it, and sure, Emo Anakin throughout was lame, and sure, you could argue the final "turn" of Anakin was sudden (I actually think it worked, but I can see the other side), and sure "Her heart just gave out" was shudder-inducing drivel...
...but come on... up against Ewoks, is it really THAT bad?!? We did get what was perhaps the most kick-ass Jedi-on-Jedi action of ANY of the Star Wars movies, and that's got to count for something!
By the way, to me, the very worst thing the prequels did was totally destroy Luke Skywalker. How you ask? Because after seeing what Obi-Wan and Anakin and Mace Windu and all the rest were capable of, Luke looks like a total pussy that *I* could put a hurtin' on! Even looking at the light saber duels in episodes 5 and 6, does anyone here think that Luke, really, would last more than 30 seconds in a fight with virtually any Jedi or Sith from the prequels? I mean, come on, Darth Maul would own his ass before he could ignite his saber! - zenerdiode, on 08/30/2009, -2/+20Wouldn't Shia LeDouche be such a great Deckard!
- zenerdiode, on 08/30/2009, -0/+18The Thing.
Kurt Russell and John Carpenter at their peak. - nixfu, on 08/30/2009, -0/+17
SIMPLE RULE.......
***NEVER*** REMAKE ANY MOVIE.
If the original works, then there is zero reason for a remake.
Get you own damn ideas. - Phernoree, on 08/30/2009, -0/+17I've always thought a sequel featuring 40 year old Bill and Ted would be great.
- BrogMaN, on 08/30/2009, -0/+16You mean way too awesome!
- workharderscum, on 08/30/2009, -0/+16Their no.1 had a sequel
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086837/ - Roboctopus, on 08/30/2009, -1/+16Buried for not being nerdy (or accurate) enough. The novel for 2001 was based on the script, not the other way around. The script was based on a short story.
But hey, why would the authors bother to do 2 minutes worth of research on their #1 pick? - cyberclown, on 08/30/2009, -1/+15A Clockwork Orange was way to weird to be remade.
- DAC1138, on 08/30/2009, -1/+14#2 Blade Runner: Leave the ***** thing alone
No further reason is required. - CptBuck, on 08/30/2009, -0/+13And the award for the worst misreading of an article on digg (possible ever) goes to............................
- boeingb17, on 08/30/2009, -0/+12So very well said! Sci-fi is so much more than special effects in space or guesses to how the future will be. It's all about putting people in scientifically "realistic" yet fictional situations and looking at how they react. In this light, Eternal Sunshine is more Sci-fi than Star Wars ever was!
I suppose I'm just a sci-fi purist. - summersam, on 08/30/2009, -0/+12Solaris was remade... Soderbergh made it in 2002 or something.
- Dagreenman, on 08/30/2009, -0/+12This list needs Brazil
- buckrogers1965, on 08/30/2009, -2/+14Keanu Reeves as Roy Batty.
- sonnybobiche, on 08/30/2009, -2/+12Two things: check out the director's cut that was released last year. Totally new special effects.
And Tarsem singh is a hack whose films are all style and no substance. Sorry. - MrBogard, on 08/30/2009, -1/+11I'll probably get buried for this, but Hayden Christensen was not part of the problem. George Lucas' hack directing skills managed to get performances ranging from so-so to oh-god-no out of seasoned actors like Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson. Between the horrible script, and horrible direction, Christensen was doomed from the start.
The prequel trilogy is no place to get your big break as an actor. I actually hope he keeps at it.. he could prove to be a bigger talent than any of us saw coming if he keeps refining his craft. - theDashRendar, on 08/30/2009, -0/+10:D What a delightfully flawed argument!
- lotrismylife, on 08/30/2009, -3/+13I don't know... ET would be good if they replaced all the guns with walkie-talkies and the word "terrorist" with "hippie." That's just me though.
- alsazen, on 08/30/2009, -0/+9"Usually sci fi remakes are done so they can improve on special effects or talent involved."
Are you kidding? I don't think any of that is much of a consideration when Hollywood is considering a remake, I think the process is more "Is it a recognised name that we can exploit? Can we make this a franchise? Can we make a toy line out of this? Will is make us lots of money?" - CaviMike, on 08/30/2009, -1/+9I can't remember how to get to Shell Beach.
- Myztry, on 08/30/2009, -0/+8Films are remade to make easy money. Full stop. There is no 'higher cause.'
Any improvements are merely by-products of current available resources. - asgardshill, on 08/30/2009, -1/+9And one jimmy kick goes out to the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, from me with love.
- NoticeDesign, on 08/30/2009, -2/+10Absolutely my thoughts completely. Usually sci fi remakes are done so they can improve on special effects or talent involved. Minority report has one of the best directors ever, one of the biggest movie stars on the planet and a huge budget and great special effects. What are they going to improve upon? Sequel or prequel maybe, but remake? That is kind or retarded.
- NoticeDesign, on 08/30/2009, -0/+8Wow that was priceless. Congrats on being able to read.
- TheObviousChild, on 08/30/2009, -0/+7They already did the E.T. re-release (technically not a remake), but they digitally replaced all of the shotguns the Feds carried while chasing down the kids with walky-talkies. That pissed off a lot of people. Maybe not as much as Greedo shooting first, but it was ***** nonetheless.
- mooninite, on 08/30/2009, -0/+7The original 3 were remade. Several times. The original release that was on VHS. Then you had the new CGI version on VHS *and* theatres. Then you had a new, new CGI version on DVD. I'm sure we'll be seeing a new, new, new version on Blu-ray.
Thanks Lucas. - hiPpymIck, on 08/30/2009, -1/+8they should have learned their lesson with Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
the original is still by far the best version - imo - workharderscum, on 08/30/2009, -0/+7http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086837/
