- YME1280, on 07/17/2009, -0/+25By far Tim the Enchanter, he moves his hands and explosions just happen. No flint or tinder necessary.
- spoofer56, on 07/17/2009, -0/+17There are some who call me... Tim
- twiztidsinz, on 07/17/2009, -0/+15TIM FTW!
Also.. ***** list since Tim is #9 and Dumbeldore is #2. - Secret7000, on 07/17/2009, -0/+12The best thing about Gandalf is that, even though he IS the Wizard archetype, he uses very little "magic", in the common sense of the word. Sure, he breaks the Bridge of Khazad Dum by magic and blows the occasional smoke ship, but for the most part his power comes across from his sheer presence. He has little need for fireballs and lightning.
Also, well done RT for putting Tim the Enchanter in there. That scene cracks me up every time I see it. - harrisbradley, on 07/17/2009, -2/+12#1 in my book: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/36/TheW ...
- acdcfanbill, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8***** yes for Lo Pan!
- DarthVolta, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8Gandalf. Come on.
The dude wasn't even bested by a Balrog. He was also among the first of the creations of Middle Earth.. - masterkenobi, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7Makes me wonder, who would win in a fight if it were Gandalf vs. Dumbledore?
- ZhiZaki, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6"Look at the bones!!!!"
"Big, sharp, pointy teeth!!!" - Ge0graphicus, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6The Sword in the Stone - Merlin... #waltdisney #cartoon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sword_in_the_Ston ... is my No 1
- AwakeningAZ, on 07/17/2009, -1/+5Anything list that has Willow on it is a great list.
- bubbameister33, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Gandalf was sent to Middle-Earth not created there.
- lastmaster, on 07/18/2009, -0/+4What about Jimmy Woods? His movie was called "The Wizard" AND he got 50,000 on double dragon!!!!
- Secret7000, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4You had to say it. You've set them off now :
- Forbiddendonut, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3I hope they are referring to the original Dumbledore...
- bubbameister33, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4I think Merlin is a better wizard than Dumbledore and should be in the number 2 spot.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2That scene never ceases to make me laugh for some reason, its how he randomly throws fire everywhere. And mid conversation he turns around and shoots a missle from his staff into a wall. So Baddass
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3Top 2 were exactly as predicted on seeing the Description.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2OH ***** LAY DOWN THE LAW BITCH. yeah we got some silmarillion readers here. ive read it 6 times and i still get lost in it.
- shipwreck58, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2With light coming out of his eyes!
- scottcxv, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2If they had paid repect to the books and the series was completed at the time of making the list Harry Potter would be placed in there in the top 3. Gandalf is definitely deserving of top 3 too. My favourite character in the books and movies(first two) was Albus Dumbledore. Most of Dumbledore's story is revealed in the last book witch could have eventually led him to top spot or stayed at second. All in all it's a decent list for what has been made so far.
- CleoQKazoo, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2Book Dumbledore yes, Movie Dumbledore? ***** that. The whole "epic battle" between him and Voldemort was so wack in OotP. ***** sparks. The first huge battle and it ended with sparks. ***** Michael Gambon and his ***** non-reading HP self.
- SalmonGod, on 07/18/2009, -1/+2I love his recognition of Merlin from Excalibur. Awesome character.
Otherwise a very predictable list, with the two most obvious picks at the top also being the two most mis-portrayed in their movies. If this were just about wizards, I could endorse it enthusiastically, but this is about movie wizards. The movies have not done Gandalf or Dumbledore justice at all, and to include them in this list is an insult to the original characters. - VeloxNex, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1This list is incomplete with out Mike Jitlov who created and stared in The Wizard of Speed and Time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_of_Speed_a ... - doctechnical, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1DarthVolta said it best, to get to Gandalf, Dumbledore has to go mano-a-mano against a Balrog. Only then is he worthy to enter Thunderdome. Two wizards enter. One wizard leaves.
- eleraama, on 07/22/2009, -0/+1Gandalf is a celestial being (Istari, second only to the Valar). Dumbledore is just a great wizard.
- eleraama, on 07/22/2009, -0/+1A lot of this stems from the fact that he was more or less forbidden to use his Istari powers to directly influence things. Blame the Valar.
- nonymous666, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1If Merlin from "Excalibur" wasn't in the list, I was going to bury it.
Dugg. - SacraBos, on 07/18/2009, -0/+0Got to meet him many years ago. Interesting guy. TWOSAT is pretty much a self documentary. He really, really doesn't like to shake hands, but did seem to appreciate the 6-pack I gave him.
- jordanmoore, on 07/17/2009, -3/+3Dumbledore hands down, "HARRRIIIEEE POTTAAAHHHH!!!"
- SacraBos, on 07/18/2009, -0/+0Egg Shen should have been listed instead. Lo Pan was a dirty shrivelled old man.
- Sakumi, on 07/18/2009, -1/+1Did you just.. tag your digg post? Buried for you being a twitter moron.
- SacraBos, on 07/18/2009, -0/+0What about Avatar in Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards"?
- SalmonGod, on 07/18/2009, -2/+2Thanks for pointing this out. Tolkien depicted magic as subtle artistry, with rarely a flash or noise to show for it. Most magic in Arda involves infusions of influence which shape events over the course of years or even centuries. Peter Jackson completely failed in portraying this.
- Spanky1983, on 07/17/2009, -12/+0How did this make Digg front page?
