- CaptainNoPants, on 10/12/2007, -8/+90Do it with the original cast or don't do it all.
- quomen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+67am i the only one that thinks that he doesnt do very much acting in any of the spiderman movies?
i'd love to get paid $20mil only having to make out with kirsten dunst and let a CGI spiderman do most of my work.. - TomFrost, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Don't feed the trolls.
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19He does voice the CGI character though, and just look at how much the people behind Shrek make and they don't even have live action parts.
Cameron Diaz got millions upon millions ($10m+) for something like 16 hours of recording time. - neoform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12In case anyone is wondering why movies cost $10+ and come with ads.. this is why.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"Do it with the original cast or don't do it at all."
FTA: 'looks more like a "classroom nerd" than a superhero.'
Which is EXACTLY why Toby works so well as Spider-Man. To change him now would be utterly stupid. Look at what they did to Batman. Totally and completely screwed the pooch on that franchise. For the love of God, PLEASE don't ***** up Spidey! - thushan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I dont know about you but I didnt think Terminator 3 was all that great, I still prefer the second.
- EatingPie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I didn't think Toby's $20M was unusual,so it otivated me to look up the highest paid actors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-paid_actors
The absolute WORSE is Tom Hanks for Forrest Gump, earning $70M because of proft sharing. Why worse? The author of the book was also in for part of the movie's profit, and the production claimed -- seriously -- that they made no money on the movie, so they didn't pay him. So how the heck did Hanks get so much money? Apparently it's okay to alienate the creative talent that came up with the story, but never, ever alienate the actor!
The author owned the rights to the characters though, so you can guess why we haven't seen a Forrest Gump 2.
-Pie - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Id like to see more small time comics, as well as keep the big budget crap, every once in a while there is a diamond in the rough (Spider-Man 1 and 2 for examples)
- goldenhearted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm okay with a cast change as long as its a great cast as the current trilogy but at this rate, I seriously can't see another guy who can play Spiderman other than Tobey... his portrayal of Spidey grew on me.
- equitium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'll do it for 20,000.
- crypt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Feed the drama fish instead!
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, you have the spectrum that goes only as high as it does low. We got big numbers going to one side, then we got people entertaining others for free on youtube or what not (or even Bum Fights.. im sure those homeless worked for a supersized meal a day). I don't know how it all relates, but I swear there is something to it .. "the rich keep getting richer"
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ actorboy
No I don't think the suits should get it all, I'm not targeting the athletes and actors only, I'm saying people need to give entertainment the priority it deserves. Here is an excellent example of what I mean:
http://digg.com/football/Top_Prospect_to_Skip_NFL_Draft_to_go_Fishing
The man is family first. No BS.
Bring entertainment under control, no more screaming fans putting people on pedestals. It'll never happen because people just want to be them.
What's more important to you, world events that shape our lives or Brittney chopping off her hair.
Get the proper perspective in life. People digging me down for not getting it are likely part of the problem, but who cares, right, gotta get the signature of Tobey. - loganhid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2he's great for spiderman.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I don't know about you diggers, but I am finding it harder and harder to support these outrages paychecks in the entertainment industry."
Interesting viewpoint. Half the people on Digg bitch and moan about the entertainment industry padding its pockets, and now when they might have to cough up a nice-sized chunk of that profit, you bitch and moan about that too. Spiderman 2 made $784M. There's a good chance 3 and 4 will do the same. You think the execs should keep it all? Or do you think perhaps they could spare a lousy 2.5% for the actor whose pretty face helps them sell tickets? - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can someone translate the OP, i tried reading it, but it just didnt make sense
- xkrwlng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey Tobey, if you take the role in Spiderman 4, I'll personally pay you $20 extra out of my own pocket. So then you'll be making $20,000,020 from this movie. Take the role pleeaasseee!
- andrewa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I love the arrogance of the submitter; "More interestingly, the paper seems to know something I don't know". Imagine that, the press maybe having sources and information that you may not...
- Phoenix99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Godspeed CanIGetAWitness.. Godspeed.
- phantom_mullet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Raimi and Dunst have reportedly said that they would return.
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=19983 - jimmyp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Too many people are writing "Spiderman" here. It's Spider-Man! Get it right, punks.
- HueytheFreeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. And on top of that, he isn't a bad actor in the role.
Although, I'd still respect his personal decision if he didn't want to be Spider-Man again (he's been at it since the first one came out, in 2002). - 8177, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It doesnt matter. We the mob love our movies, our actors, and our drama. We could care less if they were payed twice as much, its like the lottory some get it some dont. Live with what you got.
Dont worry, be happy. - RobynG7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@inukki
It would suck? - brokencode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He'll take it. This is his only chance of making that much on one movie.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1tobey gets payed to do the press as well, how many times can you answer the question "so did you enjoy making spider-man 3?"
- almightyzam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope they don't replace Tobey, he just seems like the perfect spiderman. In the first movie, when I first saw him, I was like "that is exactly what I pictured Peter Parker to look like".
I guess the only other actor that would make sense to play Spiderman would be Jake Gyllenhaal, but that's just because he looks like Tobey, who is in my opinion the perfect Peter Parker. - TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Spiderman is the type of character who relates to nice guys everywhere. I'd imagine he is a pretty easy part to play because of the amount of people who understand him and can relate to him.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hm, that's not really all that much for a movie that does so well.
Why hasn't he wizened up to taking 10% of movie gross along with his salary? - elfxstephen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Tobey Maguire should remain Spider-Man for the fans and not for the money.
- randal2k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+216 - 20 mil?? SCREW that!! i will download the movies, obviously, there is plenty of cash to toss around... they do not need my 20+$/+tax.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You sir, have a terrible writing pace (didn't know it was possible), however your opinions are strong and speak truth. Not one fan of the Spider-Man movies is necessarily a Tobey fan... and I doubt he is a selling point at all with half the commercials are the cgi'd Spider-Man image people are more used to.
- Dorepoll, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'd love to see an adult Spidey in the next movie.
This would mean a new cast, and maybe someone with personality doing Peter Parker. And hey, The Lizard could be unleashed then. - Easty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Nice work if you can get it.
- KineticShampoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Can't wait for the new movie (3) and if they are making a number 4.
Gotta love spidey. =) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2i think they should go towards a more darker rendition of spider-man, get the team behind "battlestar galactica" to write & direct the next 3. the current spidey's a bit too cartoony for me.
- inukki, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1WHATIF? they redid The Terminator similar to Star trek production timeline off par with star trek universe?
like reimagine the technology and make the stop-go animation be replaced with Terminator 3 special effects stuff? - HarryHunt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Spiderman 3 is already the most expensive movie ever (with a $250 million budget) so I guess paying Tobey $20 million won't make much of a difference considering that Spiderman 4 is sure to be even more expensive.
To think all three episodes of LotR cost "only" $190 million... - inukki, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1world peace won't arrive a bit in immediate future bekas they decided or didn't decide to scrape the original cast or not
just go with ***** program and decide who gets to act and go with it
don't care who plays spiderman, i used to read the comic bekas i'd know that in the future Tobey from "Cider house rules" would be playing Peter Parker.
I will get majorly disappointed if they don't show any form of sign on the professor's armless waiting to do experiment on himself so he could terrorize the urban streets of New York and then some whack jobs will try and then successfully imitate the movie with alligator in the sewers just so they made spiderman 3 movie that interesting to the movie viewers.
I don't care who plays MaryJane Watson, she only needs to be hot as hell, hot as a SuperModel.
The appeal of spiderman can be anybody, a teenager with teenager problems, not someone with whether He can get paid millions to play the fans image
his stardom is alienating the O.F. : Original Fans. spiderman is a total kickass even when he is getting beat up like crazy in the comics, Tobey makes spiderman image look too vulnerable and weak, not worth his salary from a fan point of view. - evanstapler, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7So what do you consider Michael Jackson? A pumpernickel flavored cracker?
- Rammsteined, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Let me know when something interesting happens, like say they they release a Spider-Man movie that isn't corny and horrible.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Somewhat okay point, but you ruined it by signing your name, dugg down.
Anyways, X-Men was ruined from the first one, then actually got better with the 2nd. The third was directed by the guy who did the Rush Hour movies, so never did I expect it to be anything but an action based flick, which it was, but at least ice man turned to ice.
"The pod race was pretty cool" - Leonardo Leonardo, from Clerks. - BLACKEAGLE, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4ya u can scrap the whole cast and it would still be good
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I don't know about you diggers, but I am finding it harder and harder to support these outrages paychecks in the entertainment industry. Not just movies, but sports or anything else in the category. This world needs to put entertainment into it's proper perspective.
End Rant... - ponk, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7racist and totally uncalled for... I really wish digg had an idiot filter
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3I would rather they keep the money to try and hold onto Sam Raimi. Was he not only locked in with a 3 movie deal as well? Though I have learned to respect Tobey Maguire, there are about a million or so average white somewhat geeky innocent type guys out there.
