- Acglaphotis, on 10/15/2008, -2/+24They should use the story from American McGee's Alice in Wonderland: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_McGee%27s_Al ... :)
- iamabootdisk, on 10/16/2008, -1/+21i am extremely excited about this movie. but not about the burton fanboys and fangirls that will flock to Hot Topic to buy the newest catalog toys...
- FlyingPhotog, on 10/16/2008, -0/+14But he's almost always being directed by Burton.
- analreceiver, on 10/15/2008, -5/+15Yes, i agree with Burton on this one; Jhonnny IS the perfect choice for the "Alice" character
- groo68, on 10/16/2008, -0/+9I don't care if you were trolling that would be awesome.
- username7410, on 10/16/2008, -5/+13Will this suck as bad as the Willy Wonka remake? I honestly feel like I've seen this movie before it's even made.
- temujin2012, on 10/16/2008, -2/+9I absolutely LOVE -most- Tim Burton movies.
All started with Nightmare before Christmas for me. Great Movie. - gquaglia, on 10/16/2008, -0/+7Glad I'm not the only one who thought that movie suck ass. Burton's turning Wonka into some kind of hyper gay, Michael Jackson like character was atrocious. Not to mention using the same person for all of the Ompa Lumpas. Gene Wilder's Wonka was more demented, while not seeming over the top and while it is dated by today's movie effects, that version was much better and is a classic.
- vango, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6yeah i was expecting more from Sweeny Todd, but this sounds killer
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/16/2008, -1/+6>:( I want American McGee's Alice, not this *****..
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+5There isn't a better soundtrack.
- Frodoholic, on 10/16/2008, -1/+5I don't know why it bugs me so much that they do so many movies together. Probably because I thought Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a disaster.
- seandfeeney, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4I am loving the idea of Johnny Depp as the mad hatter but, this article was a lot of talk with nothing substantial in it.
- hhhmethu, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4Tim Burton is my favorite director
- ZincSaucier, on 10/16/2008, -1/+5he said "for me".
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4The only one I've really had issues with was Planet of the Apes - but honestly, I just never saw it as his style anyway.
- saltydawkins, on 10/16/2008, -1/+5I am so over the Burton/Depp combo.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -3/+6it is GREAT :D
- vurdillac, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3The few times he's done an original script "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure', "Beetlejuice", "Edward Scissorhands", "Ed Wood" - the results have been good. When he's merely put his spin on an established story, it's been extremely hit-or-miss. So why is he so reticent to be more original? Maybe he's not flipping through old TV Guides for properties to cover, but he's not flipping through original scripts or, god forbid, developing his own original stories either. And maybe he should be if he wants to be a real auteur and not just a clever production designer.
- itatag, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3I think Sarah Michelle Geller has the rights to the American McGee version, if I'm not mistaken. But I don't think she will be doing anything with that anytime soon.
- MEbuDDy6, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3I am tired of re-makes of EVERYTHING, give me something original...
- aznpwnzor, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3idk i kind of tuned out the hype on that one somehow and it was pretty good for me
- paradigmx, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2how the hell can you hate Depp? have you ever even seen Edward Scissorhands, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, platoon or Nightmare on elm street?
Depp was a fantastic actor before Pirates of the Carribean and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and i still think hes a fantastic actor. - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2What? No....Did you read the book? There was some serious crack smoking going on in there....
- SissySlapParty, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2"a talentless hack btw"
As decreed by the great 'Infowarmachine', who is apparently more accomplished than we all could hope to be. - Lst01, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Too bad you couldn't get his thoughts on Dark Knight. Even if he's busy he probably could've gotten a print sent to his house.
- happytrees, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2one actor does not a cast make.
- ohcoaster, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2christopher nolan would be better for this movie
- Namco, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2There's always one ***** who stumbles in here off of the Internet, fresh from an all night youtube comment posting binge.
- nerdsftw, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2I cannot WAIT for this.
- logansnick, on 10/16/2008, -1/+3I am excited, but I hope they don't f it up like in WIlly Wonka =/
- shadowspawn, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2I thought they were using that. I looked into this the other day for no reason at all and lo and behold this article hits digg a week after I was doing my own digging around... and it was hinted someplace that it is being used in one of the articles I read.
- royalboyle, on 10/16/2008, -1/+2Maybe because Depp is money at the box office and a really talented actor? Yeah, that could be it.
- giogalindo, on 10/16/2008, -1/+2maybe because their friends? have you thought of that? it's just like how judd aptow always works with the same people from superbad.
- Atsumori, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1The best Mad Hatter I've seen is Martin Short, he was amazing. I don't know if Johnny can live up to it.
Edit: And in the same movie - Gene Wilder as the Mock Turtle, hilarious! I will never forget Turtle Soup. Gene Wilder doesn't ever age it seems - Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1I think that is the point...
- Denominator88, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1So when baseball teams have a winning streak, they don't shave their beards for good luck and do everything the same. I guess that's the same reason Tim Burton uses Johnny Depp is absolutley EVERY film.
- frozensnake, on 10/16/2008, -3/+4i dont know. i think Burton may be beginning to loose his touch.
- tomselleck69, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1spoilers:
it ends up being a little heavy on the spiral imagery - gquaglia, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1A movie that is true to the book isn't always the best one. Look at the Shining. Kurbrick's Shining deviated considerably from the book, but was a great movie. The later made, true to the book version sucked ass completely. I think the same is true with Wonka. The original is a classic and will be aired for decades to come, while Burton's version will be a footnote, if its remembered at all.
- Lst01, on 10/16/2008, -1/+2Yes, he is quite loose with the ladies I hear.
- techlinks, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1Same here, first one I saw and just thinking of it now still sends a chill down my spine.
Think I still have the VHS laying around somewhere. Thought about picking up the new 2-disc version but I don't have Blu-Ray yet and I don't want the DVD. - Mujokan, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1As long as it lives up to the standard set by this version, which I'm sure Tim Burton referenced.

One review at Rotten Tomatoes even said "A masterpiece of surrealism that's more Tim Burton than Walt Disney." (Another quote: "For adults trying to remember that first acid trip, it's a winner.")
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1049883-alice - sinkktothebeat, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter or whatever her name is
- CandystripeLegs, on 10/16/2008, -1/+2I can't wait, the Disney version was garbage. Hopefully he'll do the book some justice.
I remember when I was a kid Beetlejuice would scare the bejesus out of me (The part where they pull their faces out all funny), and I used to have a lot of nightmares about Nicholson's Joker. I'd really like to know what Burton thought of Dark Knight. - Lula87, on 10/16/2008, -1/+2They should get Star Jones to play Jabba the Hut.
Or is that the wrong movie? - CandystripeLegs, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1While the old one was a good movie, it was very different from the book, to the point where Dahl didn't like it and refused to sell the rights to The Glass Elevator. Burton's on the other hand is very faithful to the book and the reason why I enjoyed it, even the Oompa Lumpa songs were the same as they were in the book. I heard that Dahl's daughter gave it her stamp of approval as well.
- birge, on 10/16/2008, -0/+0Have you seen YouTube lately? Compared to the average YouTube comment, ZincSaucier's is worthy of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
- jschau2, on 10/15/2008, -3/+2Can't wait for this movie. Although I did not like Sweeney Todd, but I have faith in the Burton/Depp team!
- sarahyer, on 10/16/2008, -0/+0tim burton is crazy but that's part of what makes him so good at what he does.
johnny depp is talented enough to keep up with the craziness. its a good match.
can't wait for the film. -
