- crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think that Vincent would be interesting to see in 3d. After watching it several times on my Nightmare Before Christmas DVD, it is one of the best shorts he's done. I guess Disney is going to do a yearly release with the Nightmare Before Christmas 3D. After seeing it last October I thought it was pretty amazing and it gave me the sense of seeing it for the first time, the 3D effects really gave it something extra.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That is not really correct. First of all, the red/blue crap is called anaglyph, and it was NOT the dominant form of 3-D in its heyday. Most 3-D movies used polarized projection, as they do today. Polarized projection works very well, but requires a silver screen.
Another method, which you seem to be citing, requires liquid-crystal shutter glasses. The glasses are synced to the projector with radio or infra-red signals and show alternating frames to each eye. Many Imax theaters use this equipment. But it requires a significant investment in the equipment, and any releases will probably be available in both polarized and sequential-frame versions, depending on the theater.
Finally, there's a new sort of "super anaglyph" that splits the color spectrum into many very small ranges instead of red and blue. You can't even discern the difference between the two lens' colors, and the system works on a plain white surface. - egamer25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No this will be a REAL3D treatment, It actually uses digital technology to draw the separate frames on the screen digitally one after the other quickly and then the 3d glasses filter out the differences of views. It's a much cleaner 3D with more vibrant colors since the old polarized glasses tended to darken image somewhat.
- Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm just happy to hear I'll get another chance to see it in 3D considering I missed it last fall. I enjoyed regular ol' 2D nightmare before christmas, I figure I'll enjoy the 3D one almost 50% more.
- CaseyThr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wasn't 'Vincent' a poem that Tim Burton wrote?
- andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Vicent is the best short film I've ever seen so this is great news.
- memooney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Vincent is already on the Nightmare Before Christmas DVD. So dont buy a new one.
- dvgraphics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Real3D version of Nightmare was really impressive- at no point did it feel gimmicky, it just felt natural. The opener for the the film last year was Pixar's "Knick Knack". I was in a theater with a bunch of little kids and I felt like yelling "None of you appreciate how cool it is to see a 3D version of this 80's Pixar film!!!"
- popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, and that is mentioned in the article.
- markthegoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its a fantastic animation and nightmare 3d was excellent, the 3d worked surprisingly well and the image has been drastically cleaned, highly recommended
- dep01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gah! Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D was one of the most horrendous, headache inducing experiences of my adult life. And I loved that movie. What's the big excitement over 3d movies? The edges are all blurry and it's just a frustrating experience IMO.
Wake me up when there are glasses-less 3d movies with sharp edges. No digg. - skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My favorite fillm of all time - Tim Burton's "Vincent"!!!!
- cyranthus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1obviously you do if you posted....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2These idiotic "conversion" releases will simply serve to discredit 3-D once again. You can't create true 3-D from flat images. It's a gimmick.
The Pixar movies, on the other hand, could very well be rendered in 3-D. It would take some extra work because even computer-rendered movies still use some conventional compositions, but for the most part you'd just render from two camera positions 65mm apart.
But enough with the FAKE 3-D. These guys are going to blow 3-D's chances yet again with this crap. - h00ligan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm more confused that they are re-releasing 3-d nightmare before xmas - AGAIN. Didn't it go nationwide last year or was that just in NY? I know it was on limited run here, but - it also wasn't exactly selling out.
- Zombi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Awesome, I hope I get to see this at some point.
- StrangeLove81, on 06/27/2008, -0/+0Awww I didn't know about this!? :-( Then again I live in a small crap town in Texas, nothing good ever comes our way. I Love this short film!! I hope I get to watch it one day. How cool it must be to watch it in 3-D!!! I'm a fan of both Tim Burton, and Vincent Price. Of course Vincent Price is my # 1! ;-) The man was a genius!!
" I've come to believe remembering someone is not the highest compliment - it is missing them." - Vincent Price - meshman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well he has done the odd ok film but I find most of his stuff the result of someone who should really be institutionalized. I mean, LOOK at the guy. He's like Keith Richards expect far higher on the insanity scale. The fact he likes to use nutball Jack Nicholson in many of his films speaks volumes. Most things he does ends up twisted and weird. Mars Attacks was ok but still had that weird feel to the whole thing. POTA was somewhat on the normal side for a change. Jonny Depp made Charlie a good film but you can still see Burton's nutjob influence in it everywhere. (don't start me on Kubrick, another complete insanity case. Oh, and add Tarentino to that list too)
- Wonderama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Tim Burton is a hack and makes Uwe Boll look like Kubrick. "Planet of the Apes" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" were abominations. What's next on his list of coveted films to destroy...how about making the nanny in "The Sound of Music" a tranny, Tim?
- Vazel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Awesome thanks.
- kriminalintent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Made in 1982, the six-minute stop-motion short is about a boy named Vincent who imagines he’s like Vincent Price. Price narrated the black-and-white film, which was based on a poem by Burton, who sites Price as an influence." I kinda think this could have been summed up in less words.
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5"***** Tim Burton."
--Kevin Smith - zhulien, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0yep, perhaps this is just old news?
- vince, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2my name is vincent
no one gives a ***** thow - Seruphim, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1thow? I'm assuming you meant Though? or possibly Throw, which makes absolutely no sense, Either that or I've missed a joke.
and about the article, buried because everything Tim Burton makes is not a masterpiece, especially Vincent. and another thing, why the hell make Vincent 3D? - Spindash54, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Um... didn't NBC come out in 3D LAST year?
- rcran, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1But seriously. Are we talking red/blue lens 3d? If so... Big deal. I doubt it will make it more enjoyable.
Remember Spy Kids 3? - VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -6/+1oh my god my waffle oh the humanity!
- bcknkd, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I feel like posting something stupid so I can be dugg down too!
- koonchu, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Who give a *****?
- anandesoft, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1I agree .
- jsballardx, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Something else of Tim Burton's for me to avoid at all cost.
- cyranthus, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2I really like alot of Tim Burton's movies... but he has got to stop doing these 3D/ claymation movies... they're getting lame!
