    I don't want to see the second string make the same moves as the starters, it just seems like it wont last another 3 movies.

    I say it should have Kraven and the Lizard. It would be pretty easy to get a good story out of those two characters. Any more than two villians is really pushing it. You get too many characters and the whole movie is one big series of action sequences glued together with some one-liners (see Batman and Robin and Batman Forever).

  • rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Dude, seriously, Jake is a cool guy. I never said there's anything wrong with him but he's basically the exact same as Toby. If you plan on doing 3 more movies with a new cast that's very similar they have to be 100s of times better actors for these films to go for another 3 otherwise people will (and by that I mean me) think the franchise is getting stagnant. This is a great chance to re-invent the character, and I would think out of respect for Toby doing a great job they wouldn't try to make the same movie with his clone.

    There are enough stories to keep it going forever. The problem is making the transition from actor to actor work well with the scripts. It doesn't matter WHO does spiderman, or the other characters, as long as they are done well.

    Okay...Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Spiderman (I know, hard to picture but you know he could find a way to make it work), Rose McGowan as Mary Jane, and Hugo Weaving as Lizard.

  • inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5there is nothing compelling left to tell. venom is sort of the end of spiderman to me. after venom you get carnage, which is basically just venom except he's red. after carnage you get the dreaded clone saga. next is the return of norman osborn which ended in a retarded way. then marvel rebooted the series like idiots. last time i read spiderman peter thought gwen stacy had been pregnant with his kids. spiderman movie series should end with this movie. no one wants to see kurt connors or electro. spiderman3 should be the death of comic movies except for indie stuff.

    Sure, but I think that if you're going to re-invent, you might as well re-invent. So it's Phillip Seymour, but to fit his body type the Spiderman suit is now a 1930s business suit in a muted Spiderman color pattern, and just Spiderman-shaped wrap-around shades as a mask. Then he portrays Spiderman as someone who is a step ahead of the criminals and a bit bemused by their attempts to get the best of him. Sort of a Demi-god archetype rather than action hero archetype.

    Okay, that should be about enough blaspheming for one day.

  • Stunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The movies don't have to follow the comic books step by step. If done correctly, Kraven's Last Hunt would actually make for a pretty good movie. How many villians out there commit suicide after defeating their greatest foes?

    If Carnage is in the next film for some odd reason, he will be completely different from his comic counterpart. In the original Marvel Universe, Carnage is a shallow character with very little personality. A lot of Carnage lovers either don't read the comic book or they choose to ignore his shallowness because they liked his character as a kid. Venom also isn't the best character personality-wise, but Peter has a short history with the Venom symbiote, so it works for the Spider-Man 3 movie. Carnage would be a thorn.

    I also thought the whole Gwen Stacy having kids with Norman wasn't that bad of a story. Spider-Man has been around for a long time. Marvel needs to take chances like that if they want to keep things fresh.
