- h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have never, ever, EVER, seen so many dug down comments in a row from the first post.
- gravityisalie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1are you guys here just to bitch and complain????????
thanks for the article! another inspiring read - Angelicalangie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Having spent time as an extra (Money for mostly doing absolutely nothing), in England I can see how David's comments whereby you act and help the crew would work out. It is also advice I would gladly follow. It does have sense.
As for the commenter who said how do you get work when you need work to get work. Volunteer. Volunteering gets you experience, for people who aren't altogether fussy about the over all product. They are generally looking for credits behind their name. As are you. It works in normal commerce. DO the crap not getting you anywhere jobs, to get you the getting somewhere jobs. It is all about showing you are reliable and that you have a variety of experience! - mircalla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1An excellent article. Ironically it seems increasingly difficult for actors to get started but perhaps that's because they lack David's commitment and enthusiasm.
- rallykiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That's because everybody be hating on everybody.
- Haliyah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I swear, these "oldbies" are just stalking David now...because, you know, that's DEFINITELY useful and constructive, and not the least bit spammy...
I like these articles. I've never had the chance to take drama, so these are very interesting to read. Keep on it, sah. :D - esotericguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1and yet you were dugg down for it.
- teknikal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1woooo negativeness towards Davids Article..theres a surprise....hes just giving advice based on his experience.
yes im on dgeek..big whoop...you may aswell get used to it..as long as David posts on this site people from his site will come on here - wheeliedude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Indies are movies.
...is this the only neutral comment? - nanook660, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Could not have said it better myself. I too like these articles of his. I find these articles interesting and seeing how David got to where he is today and what he went through to get there.
- gravityisalie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0the majority of the people here are just ***** miserable! is this your anger therapy session ? do you have nothing better to do? i used to feel upset for dgeek but now i just laugh at your stupidity and rudeness!
squirrel ready for duty! - TheSexyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Forgive me for my previous comment. I'm a virgin. . . .this is my first Digg-Down Orgy!

- codespinneker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Dugg the I love pancakes, just So i didn't have to see the field of gray.
- TheSexyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Holy *****. I came here too see people's opinions and EVERY comment is buried! WTF?
- venicerocco, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Not just for actors; it's how we all have to do it: editors, DPs, directors, art guys. You name it, we've all used Craigslist to get a free gig.
- TheYellowMole, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4In Soviet Russia, comments bury you!
- syder, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Wow. There's 24 comments so far ... and they're ALL dugg down. That's a lot of grey.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+7More unwelcome spam from David Hewlitt -- the man who sends his followers here to comment even though he has a working comment system under every artice on his site. And yes, the same people who fawn here fawn on that one too. David, keep your people on your own board. If you insist on spamming, tell them to just Digg the article and move on -- it would be less obvious as spam if they struck the commentary jerk-off fest.
Story Buried. - shawnanigans, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1"Hollywood films like Cube"
Doesn't get more Hollywood than a film shot on a budget of $365,000 CAD. Made in a 14'x14'x14' cube in a Toronto soundstage. - maggiemerc, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Um...I disagree. A lot of our highest paid actors got their starts on teen stars in high profile films and TV shows. Others (Ms. Julia Roberts I look in your direction) had the help of established family members.
Indies have also grown less indie. The most successful "indie" films of late feature big names in the main rolls. Even films like sex, lies, and videotapes and Reservoir Dogs were far from traditional indie films.
An interesting article but a little to broad.
Although his advice on getting agents to stage plays is still very valid if you are in a location that doesn't have a huge film scene (like LA or NY). For example most of the actors in Dallas got their agents from doing stage plays. - TheYellowMole, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Oh man I love it when this happens...
Remember: No matter how insightful or inspiring a comment is, we have to digg it down now or it ruins the whole article's comments.
Digg me down, continue the trend! - thpeyton, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4lots of buried comments on this page.

It's a Massacre!!! - spencewah, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3"That director (Vincenzo Natali) went on to make Hollywood films like Cube, Cypher and Nothing. I ended up with roles in all of them."
Step 1: become childhood friends with a Hollywood director. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7@ esotericguy
