- CrappedCrusader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The first motion picture camera encoded quicktime? AWESOME!
- indiraider2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4is that in 1080p or 720p?
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does NOT crash for me, though I am using the Quicktime Alternative Codec in the K-lite MegaCodec pack
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1pretty cool. dugged-ed-d
- mcarolan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow. the first motion picture was encoded with Quick time
- Gills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's not the first. the first was the "Horse in Motion" by Eadweard Muybridge, beating that by 9 years. however it was not shot with a single camera. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eadweard_Muybridge
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox 1.5 here, check. The latest Quicktime from Apple here, check. Loaded the link, worked perfectly here, check.
Wondering what everyone was doing wrong, or what I was doing right. - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It crashed for me using Firefox 1.5, too. I opened AnalogX MaxMem and did an "Agressive" free, and it worked perfectly after that. I'm not sure why it worked, but it did. Firefox seems to have memory management issues, and MaxMem seems to help alleviate that.
And for those of you saying that Quicktime sucks, educate yourself before you say something. Quicktime is awesome as a product, Apple just sucks at handling it. $40 for full screen video? Come on, guys. - tcrawford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like a freaky ass clip from The Ring.
- Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny. Didn't crash my Mac Firefox 1.5.
For the windaloonies here: Quicktime is not a format. It's a framework for the use of any codec you want. In fact, wmv is a "Format." For Windows to "kill it off," they'd have to demolish every codec that Quicktime supports. Oh, I'm sure they'll figure out a way to fight it being successfully installed on a Windows box.
In fact, I'm using a codec called Flip4Mac, so I can see .wmv files in Quicktime.
I do think that Apple shouldn't pull that stupid stunt of changing your file associations to Quicktime. But seriously, do you want my help to show you how to change them back? Takes about a minute. - Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Louis Le Prince - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Le_Prince
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks life a webcam conference video.

Holy crap, man! What did you expect, The Lord of the Rings? - code_of_life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does not crash my firefox 1.5 because I never install the Quicktime plugin :)
Opens externally
Movie seems to have a length of 2 seconds. Thoroughly useless
Waste of 1276KB.
Hate .mov even more..... - cbdgr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0herm luink bad alredy?
- Twenty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, and here I thought it was Fred Ott's Sneeze. Dang.
- jamesperkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0works perfect in firefox 1.5 and quick time here, and that movie looks way better than the first photo :P
PJ - ewithrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0considering clicking the link causes my browser to crash, I don't think "always works" is the correct term..
- dthmnky05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if it is copyrighted =P
I saved it; those sorts of things are cool to have for movie projects. - skyfex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hiro: .avi was never meant for streaming. And .avi is just a container, not a codec. Thirdly, H.264 beats DivX and Xvid in quality.
And the player is a lot better at streaming than WMP. The only problem is the no fullscreen thing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is cool.... wonder what format it was from start... :)
- sudoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow that was a long movie, I was starting to doze off. The movie has a real cliff-hanger tho.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Pretty cool. Didn't crash my Firefox 1.5 with QT 7, so try that folks.
Man there are some funny people on here. And some not so.
And people, QuickTime sucks. Ask any developer. It was designed for postage-stamp sized "video" on 1991 computers. It doesn't even have flags to specify color depth greater than 8 bits; it has guesswork and hacks to handle it. It has been spaghetti-coded and band-aided to work year after year.
And now blocking out most functions unless you PAY? That's dreaming. Do not pay for this crap. AND, you can get Windows Media Player for the Mac, duh."
You don't know what the ***** you're talking about, because you don't even know what QuickTime is. - amishjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool :D
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1quicktime?????? i guess i'll give them a break since it is over a hundred years old.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Initial: I know just what you mean. I kept watching that film, thinking about the fact that those are the actual people from 1888, not just a re-creation. To think, there they are, probably like 18 or 20 years old, and by the time World War II broke out, they were over 70 years old.
Also, if anyone wants a great collection of vintage films (and more recent), they're all available free at archive.org. Some crazy stuff there that you probably never imagined existed.

- Wasted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Guess the invention of a script wasn't a fact yet.
- thidranki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the sneeze is Edison's first ever video and the first ever video COPYRIGHTED, not made. http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bledison.htm (towards the bottom)
I'm using Firefox on Mac and it works perfectly. Blame windoze... - grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0add some trippy music to that and make it slow mo... then play that to some tool on acid. That'd be funny.
- normishmael, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Maybe we need to define "sucks" when you have a product that crashes WinXp ,IE7 and Firefox with proper installation on a reliable machine, that falls well within the parameters of "sucks"
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Added the link to the Wikipedia entry :)
- DarthGordolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w0wz3rz...way to make firefox crash
or is it just M$ - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worked fine on Firefox on both my XP and Mac machines, but I still hope that MS kill off the Quicktime format as soon as possible
- kd5ftn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's why I went back to Firefox 1.07
- PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"i doubt this is the first movie.I heard tomas edison was invovled. Also The first movie ws a man sneezing. How i know this you ask.I just saw a video of tomas edison and he made the first move."
Thomas Edison was a businessman, not a scientist. Sure, he did invent some things, but others? He completely ripped off of other scientists. For example, he did not invent the radio or the motion picture. - amigamurph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is amazing. This was done so long ago, but they had the foresight to encode it in Quicktime. They were way ahead of their time.
- Jumboshrmp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha, very true tcrawford
This is very interesting, i didnt know that cameras back then could encode in quicktime! lol XD - ra3ndy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With technology back then, that movie must have taken YEARS to encode to quicktime.

Yeah, I wonder what direction they'll be walking to next. - normishmael, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You got that right! It also crashes IE7 when you try to open any movie on my system. on top of that it is impossible to find a e-mail address to talk to these bastards.
- bruggerA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i doubt this is the first movie.I heard tomas edison was invovled. Also The first movie ws a man sneezing. How i know this you ask.I just saw a video of tomas edison and he made the first move.
