- sfpfc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+104you failed to have this on the list when homer enters the 3rd dimension http://youtube.com/watch?v=7KSDAhdEY7s&mode=related&search=
- fooolio, on 10/11/2007, -3/+81Kind of off topic:
Does anyone remember the episode of Futurama where fry finds the fossil of his old dog. The ending of that was seriously one of the most touching endings I have ever seen in a cartoon. - Dysarthria, on 10/11/2007, -11/+50Huh...looks like there hasn't been an ending worth mentioning in 10 years.
Not surprising. - GirSaysDoom13, on 10/11/2007, -2/+41At risk of sounding like a wussy: I actually teared up a little when I saw that episode, especally the time-lapse shot of the dog waiting for fry through all the years.
I gotta break out my Futurama DVDs. - theradical, on 10/11/2007, -0/+34The best ending IMO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCpVIScEM3g - jalexhall1989, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32Very nice list, But i'm suprised the Inside-out fog didn't make the list.
- listrophy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25It's not a Simpon's ending, but rather Futurama... both being Groening creations, I think it deserves a spot on the honorable mention list:
Futurama - Jurassic Bark (ie: the episode about Fry's dog)
If you've ever had a dog, or even cat, this episode can hit you pretty hard. Like tear-shedding hard. - GoalieStr1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21I think, since there are just sooo many episodes, the top 10 endings could be debated forever. HOWEVER, I think the #1 ending was dead on, not only was that ending simply the greatest of all time, but it was meaningful and powerful... it's weird to say that about a Simpsons episode, but it's true.
- wicked9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21you dont make friends with salad
- thepotatoman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Also there was that like five second short at the end of some random episode that went:
"hens love roosters, geese love ganders
everyone else loves Ned Flanders
Hey kids its time to go to church!
No
Why
Cause its Saturday
Okily dokaly do!
hens love roosters, geese love ganders
everyone else loves Ned Flanders
Not me!
Everyone who counts loves Ned Flanders"
That was off the top of my head and its been a long time since I saw or heard it, but it somehow stuck with me. - Dested, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17ITS JUST A LITTLE AIRBORN, ITS STILL GOOD ITS STILL GOOD
- filcanman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I always liked the ending to Mother Simpson...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiKI6SiEk24 - GoalieStr1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17AGREED, Homer 3D was one of the greatest endings in the series
- gijoel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Yeah, my girlfriend who was in stitches up until that point raced out of the room crying.
- Alteron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Marge Vs. the Monorail, hands down.
"Donuts, is there anything they cant do?", Lenard Nemoy beams away, Popsicle stick sky-scraper, 50 foot magnifying glass, and that escalator that to nowhere. - 4040, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Simpsons > Firefly?
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10i've being saying this for years, the reason the simpsons is a shadow of its former self (and i'm scared of the movie) is because it lacks heart now, it's just trying to be another family guy
actually, the movie also scares me because of how widespread the advertising is... i found a cutout of the donut logo in my drawer this morning, and i sure as hell didn't put it there - WhiteRaven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9No, South Park has it right, Family Guy is just a string of crappy gags. They are often funny and I do like Family Guy, but it's simply not even in the same league as the Simpsons. Simpsons had heart and depth... Family Guy is just random pulp culture references, running gags and one off jokes with very, very thin plots.
- xcleetusx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I was shocked when I saw #1, because I completely agree. I usually disagree with these kinds of lists completely. You could argue different kinds of "best" endings (funniest, wittiest), but the end of "And Maggie Makes Three" is easily the most touching and heart-warming I can recall.
- meez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10"You think that's bad, remember the time I did x with y?"
http://z.about.com/d/miami/1/0/1/3/Kissing_Manatees_USDA.jpg - stratdog25, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9not an ending, but I just watched "hurricane neddy" and got possibly the greatest hidden joke... during the video of young ned terrorizing the class: "AHHH IM DICK TRACY!!! TAKE THAT, PRUNE FACE!!! (hits kids) NOW IM PRUNE FACE!!! TAKE THAT, DICK TRACY!!!!! (hits kids) NOW I'M PRUNE TRACY!!! TAKE THAT, DICK F.." cut off by teacher... video here... http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ii5pdq-Oaz4
- LucasVB, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I WAITED FOR YOU, FRY.
Brilliant episode, very touching. - froglars, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8My favourite ending is from 'Blood Money'.
Marge: Well, maybe the moral is that--
Lisa: Maybe there isn't a moral to this story.
Homer: Yeah, it's just a bunch of stuff that happened. - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8There was a second or third season episode where Lisa had a crush on her sub teacher. At the end when he had to say goodbye he wrote her a note and kept referencing it. As the train pulled away Lisa opened the note and it said "You are Lisa Simpson". It was sorta cheesy but since she was so different from the rest of the family it had meaning.
Also the ending to Homer's Mother always chokes me up a bit. - dziban303, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Totally worthless without links to video.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Trash of the Titans and the fog song are the 2 best endings ever.
- halfabean, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8that episode and "the sting" are my 2 favourites. it seems to me futurama got cancelled just as it was hitting its stride. but hey, it wouldnt be fox if they didnt cancel top notch shows.
- batmanuel1988, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7that was my favorite futurama episode.
- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I thought the exact same thing when I saw this article on the front page.
@ GirSaysDoom13, christ, I'm getting choked up thinking about that right now. - JoseBrazil, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6My personal fave was Lisa's Substitute where, after an emotional rousting from Miss Spiky Hair, Homer spends the last few minutes trying to redeem himself and succeeds, uttering the line "I'm on the biggest roll of my life".
Back then I used to care more about the characters - now they're just parodies of caricatures. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6mmmmm erotic cakes
- nintendoagekid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Even if you considered the 2 similar enough I don't think there is any way you'd have Family Guy w/out The Simpson's.
- Fungo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7The best ending by far did not make this list.
Shary Bobbins getting shredded by the low flying airplane turbine. I was cracking up for 5 minutes afterwards. - malekov, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6oh dude, i love the "dont forget her" ending, cute and awesome
- charliefoxtrot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Agreed. That ending's my favourite. It's the music that gets me everytime. Alf Clausen, you magnificent bastard.
- TehSwat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Dugg for "Groin-grabbingly transcendent."
- unknownpoltroon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akf-H0OVpLA
- vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I absolutely agree about #1
I'm, as a rule, unemotional. I don't know if it's my upbringing, or my touch of aspergers. But I don't get mad, sad, happy, or just about anything easily.
There are exactly two things in this world that just the mere thought of makes me tear up. One is the ending of that episode of The Simpsons. The other is (of all things) the scene in Independence Day when Randy Quaid says "tell my kids I love em" right before he goes kamikaze. - theenginedriver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No mention of Pinchy from "Lisa gets an 'A'?" Come on!
Pinchy would have wanted it this way... - synaesthesia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"Do it for her" you mean? Same here, it always makes me get a warm fuzzy feeling inside lol
- canucksin2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I am so glad that there are so many other people out there that realize that The Simpsons lacks the heart and meaning it had in its earlier episodes. It was more than just a comedy, each episode had something that someone could take it away, be it laughter or something more.
- aduzik, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Conspicuously absent from the list: "You are Lisa Simpson." Best. Ending. Ever.
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"Do it for her"
Yeah, I guess that's a classic. - sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"don't forget her" would have been easier to do since the sign said "dont forget you're here for ever"
- therearenorules, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3i had a nice sandwich for lunch today
- unknownpoltroon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akf-H0OVpLA
- ronfez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Homer's Phobia - "Keep Reaching For That Rainbow!"
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You're right, thats how it ended. His speech to Bart after he lost the election was great. "Are you getting paid?" "Will you have to do more work"? "Then let the baby have his bottle!"
- recockulous, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The episode that ended with the gay steel workers dancing to "Everybody Dance Now" which was "Dedicated to the Steel Workers of America!"
And all Simpsons fans think their recent stuff is crap, but the most recent Treehouse of Horror which ended with Kang and Kodos in Springfield was utterly outstanding. "We never won their hearts and minds!" - KingMoses, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Plus the episode had a Dolemite reference. How can you go wrong?
"Dolemite's my name, and *****' up ***** is my game!" -
