- rlahiff, on 10/10/2007, -3/+145***** AMEN - I can understand the anger of the movie production companies of thinking that people who downloaded the movie will not go see it in the theater. But I HATE when they make the parallel of, a lot of people downloaded it so are ticket sales will suffer and/or not as good as they could have been. Countless times I have seen a movie MORE THAN ONCE because of how good it was when i downloaded it. OR I have even stopped a movie part of the way through of a ***** cam knowing that "wow this movie is going to be good, im going to take my girl to go see it in the theater so i can see it in its true quality."
Learn your ***** mpaa - we pay your bills, make us happy. - canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+86watch "are you smarter than a digger" wednesdays on fox. that's right, we even advertise during comments now.
- NoahK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+50My friend BOB downloaded it illegally, but not only did he go see the movie the night it opened, he took 4 of his friends, AND plans on buying the DVD when it's released.
- dukeeeey, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52In case people hadn't noticed.
EVERY MOVIE EVER gets 'leaked' on the internet, sometimes even before they hit the cinemas - ShakeWell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41"This was despite the apparent pleas in "The Simpsons Movie" itself in which Bart is reprimanded for downloading "this movie" illegally. In his usual scene of writing on the chalkboard countless times what he has done wrong as punishment, he writes that "I will not illegally download this movie." The subtlety is not lost on viewers I'm sure and was an obvious attempt at getting pirates out from behind their PCs and into the theaters."
I don't think the writers did the gag as a 'plea' for the audience to go to a theatre instead of watching a download. Seems to me it was just a lighthearted jab at a popular issue. The writers have to be smrt enough to know that people will download the movie illegally no matter what they do (unless the movie was the suckiest suck that ever sucked), and that anything they try to do to prevent it will only end up encouraging the practice, but they also know that the movie is going to make a boatload of cash anyway, with the sheer size of the fanbase of the TV show. - ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -15/+55You need to be a real moron to watch these cam versions though.
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -3/+36rofl - "...the movie gets leaked on BitTorrent..." - EVERY movie gets "leaked" on BitTorrent! The movie aint worth watching if it aint on BitTorrent! lol
- lhnz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29The copy on the net is actually relaly really good.
- Erectile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26I would download it, but I'm capped for another week or so.
You win... for now. - jeo77, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Thanks for the spoiler, asshat.
- mtrip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Fear of Bears?
- weizbox, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24def, your missing out on all the fine detail that the simpsons is known for =P
- jlebrech, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21There's an illegal movie called the Simspons (sic)?
- phreakout, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20It is not a plea - it is something bart has been caught doing.
So it is a nice joke. It is also a little comment to the mainstream viewing audience. If bart does it it can't be all that bad in fact maybe its cool or at least don't have a cow RIAA.
Clearly the writers like everyone else think that downloading and sharing culture is not entirely a bad thing.
Many artists still have the niave notion that the important thing is someone seeing your work and getting paid is a somewhat separate issue.
Think back to when Star Wars 1 came out.
Think how much it meant to me to see it unspoilt.
Potter fans imagine if your series was released not over 10 years but 30.
Imagine that it was sold in the UK and there was a 3 month delay before it was sold in the US.
As a UK resident I was forced off of the internet for the interminable 3 month wait for Holywood to deign to show it to me as they didn't want to pony up for enough prints for a worldwide release.
Without substantial internet piracy they would never have moved to worldwide releases.
Ironically it is crime that keeps business fair. - neosplasher, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20I kinda like this response: "I knew this movie was gonna be good so i went to the theater for it, and the movies that are dumb, and would never go to the theater for, I download sometimes."
- gharding, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I recreate the experience at home. I put on a CD of people talking, eating, cellphones going off, and little children, spill some soda on my floor, rub a homeless guy on my couch, add a blur filter to the video output, screw up the equalizer on my amp and make it so loud it's distorted. It's JUST like a movie theater!
- Nicksname1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17I should have downloaded it. It was great in the theater but the theater was packed and this little kid behind me kept saying, "spider-pig, spider-pig..." I wanted to strangle that little bastard. But other than that I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Lesbian trapped in a man's body?
- john2kx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18I don't buy or rent movies anymore because of the incredibly annoying anti-piracy ads during the beginning of the DVD that you're forced to sit through. For god's sake, if I'm using a legit DVD of a movie, why are they making me sit through this punishment?
At this rate, I might as well pirate the movies because then at least I won't have to watch that. - zadadka, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17DOH!
- TheCheeta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Thank you Captain Obvious. BOB had no idea.
- TheTankengine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11"Lone behold"?
I'm sure glad this blogger has a supreme command of the English language, otherwise he would have written "lo and behold". Oh what a blunder that would have been! - DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16To be frank, some movies you just have to watch on the big screen purely for the experience. Things like Transformers, Die Hard, Rocky and The Simpson.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Yeah, Epilepsy... Justice got it. Even when I watch movies on TV, or the computer, I take plenty of breaks during them.
- snurfle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10"Lone behold"
Jeebus... Now I've seen everything! - scoot2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Lisa: "Dad, you just told them they could find it online and download it!"
Homer: "Doh!" - anteyekon4myst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9If i were the Simpsons i'd be pissed at who ever created the "Simspons" movie this article is apparently about
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Proper leaked screeners are a glorious thing
- lrf2005, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Yes, but epilepsy is not a pyschological condition. It's a physiological condition.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8meh.... still dugg but kinda inaccurate. the only torrent release is a CAM, which people don't watch because they look and sound like ***** 90% of the time.
i feel bad for anyone who'd have been trying to make a cam copy in the theater i was in, too. loud annoying teenage girls behind me, a woman with a BABY that wouldn't STFU (seriously?) 4 rows back and about three different cellphones ringing.
i can't wait till comcast does the $50 opening night movies on demand so me and some friends can all chip in, grab a case of beers and some tacos and watch the movie at my house and not have to deal with inconsiderate *****. - Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14I'm incapable of going to movie theaters due to a psychological condition. Downloading is the only way I'd get to see them. I'll buy the DVD eventually, but it's such a long wait, that I can't resist the download.
This is why I'm a huge supporter of DVD release being parallel to theater release. People WILL go for the experience. The rest of us who can't will buy the DVD. - MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8bob eh
- nphp20, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It appears in the intro sequence... it's not like this spoiled any part of the plot....
- hasansexy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11I'm just curious, if you want to tell us, what kind of psychological condition?
- nwoantibody, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I bought it from a guy that downloaded it.
My soul is clear of sins. - MrSarcasm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Wel umm... duh?
- WilliamDecker, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9I usually just wait for a good DVD screener to be released. Not because I want to take money out of the pockets of the movie companies (my DVD collection is quite extensive, and while I have you here ***** Criterion), but because the movie going experience is dependant on others. When I have some god damn ***** interrupt me in the theatre because I have my phone turned off and the indicator light blinks once in a while and he thinks I'm recording the movie ***** him. Not even an apology even after he asked us if we were recording (die hard 4) I asked him right after "Isn't that actually legal in Canada" (stories were running at the time). He said yes and walked away. What was the point in him ruining what I payed ***** $13 for?
Also other people in the theatre suck. Especially if you go to see your typical Star Wars, LoTR, Matrix type movies. I'm a nerd, but honestly some of these ***** losers in the theatre need to shut the hell up!
On the topic of children? It's 10:30 at night. I'm watching Transformers. I don't want to hear some god damn child going on about how they need to pee with daddy saying "in a minute!". Remove your god damn pissbag if he can't go by himself. Put him in bed at 7:00, or get a friggin' sitter. Don't ruin my god damn movie. - Hello1024, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Everyone knows "My friend BOB" is another way of saying "I"
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Most people i know watch that to see if its worth paying the $12 to go see it. If the tickets were $4-$6 then it wouldnt be worth the time and dvd to record it on and it would be easier to just go to the movies..
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7my guess is likely Epilepsy.
the big screen would give anyone with that a huge fit. It would suck too -- because you can't game for long periods of time either. - WarpFox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You can thank the MPAA for that. Everyone knows that movie theaters only make money on concessions and that ticket sales go right to the movie company. Yet another *AA ***** ***** up.
- mashw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7You have ***** up morals.
- jbags5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What are "Simspons" ? Are those like Simpsons-brand tampons? Yet another great example of innovative advertising for this movie....
- EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Capped? WTF?
Get a decent service, man. - TheTankengine, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6"Lone behold"
Luckily this blogger has a supreme command of the English language, otherwise he might have written "lo and behold". What a blunder that would have been! - 574lk3r, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7there are better than cam copies out (ts's atm),
my friend never goes to the cinema,
but he does often download movies, even if he dident download movies he still wouldent go to the cinema,
he stopped doing that when he was a teen.
but he will buy the occaisional bluray as he doesent have a bluray burner..... yet...
i do agree with him, the cinemas are crap, uncomftable seats, horrid people there, ***** staff, high prices, the list goes on,
much better to watch it at home with a nice drink on a comfy sofa, and maybe with a bj from the missus. - GeneralFailure0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Can't stop the signal.
- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Do you buy food off the internet? Did you apply for a degree online? Have you left the house at all in the past couple of days? People suck. That doesn't mean they ruin every thing they attend. Who cares if there's a screaming baby? If you're watching a CAM version, you'll be getting all that too, only with less quality in both the "Audio" and "Visual" department.
