- chocobomog, on 01/24/2008, -1/+40No mention of Event Horizon? The "hell" scenes with spoken latin were very disturbing.
- SurrealDream, on 01/24/2008, -1/+19Dugg for Jacob's Ladder. That movie scared the bejeezuz outta' me when I was a kid.
- honkaform, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11Worst part of Alien for me as a kid would have had to have been the vents. That was just intense.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -1/+12what about fire in the sky? remember that? the half alien half human made me crap myself.
- ironkhan, on 01/24/2008, -5/+15Resident evil extinction was crap, not scary at all
- glowfood, on 01/24/2008, -1/+11This doesn't deliver.
- natdowner, on 01/24/2008, -1/+9Good list. The one that comes to mind for me is the movie Cube. Now that was a ***** up and scary place!
- allaboutdatiki, on 01/24/2008, -1/+9Dugg for THX 1138. Stark white and scary.
- michaelfitz, on 01/24/2008, -1/+8Dugg for the mere mention of Jacob's Ladder. That movie, especially if you think about it, is easily (in my opinion, anyway) the scariest movie ever made. btw, pretty much everything from Silent Hill 1 & 2 was (indirectly) ripped from this movie. For example, check deleted scene #2 on youtube, then compare it to the ending of SH2. Similar, huh?
- stonedgeek, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7The first movie that comes into my head when I hear "The Scariest Settings Ever Created in Scifi Movies" is Event Horizon
- jimb0, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Dunno, it did kind of suck. Coming from a huge Alien fan, it was an extreme disappointment. They nullified Ripley's saving of Newt in the first minute of the movie. Stupid.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6is wasn't supposed to be.
- JARSInc, on 01/24/2008, -2/+8Welcome to the iWorld.
- bosssmiley, on 01/24/2008, -1/+6No "1984"?
No "Brazil"?
No machine-world segments of "The Matrix"?
Mediocre list. Dugg for being thought-provoking though... - TaintedWisdom, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5I can't seem to remember the title (maybe someone here knows) but probably the only movie I ever been scared of (when I was a kid) was this one which took place like in a funeral home and this metallic ball which came out of a guys skull and killed people. Not sure why, but I still remember it till this day hehe.
- angrynorwegian, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5other great settings include the antarctic research outposts in john carpenters "The Thing"
- snotrokit, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5beat me to it. Scary as *****.
- natedouglas, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4It's all about the spinning rear-right wheel on the cart. I think that's the scariest detail of the whole scene.
The best thing about horror is when they beat you over the head with amputees, blood, insane women breastfeeding, etc -- but they stick in one detail that somehow perfectly conveys the hellishness of the situation while seeming meaningless. - B3000, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4you are an idiot
- Johnny2085, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Phantasm?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasm_%28film%29 - Grimdotdotdot, on 01/24/2008, -2/+6"People stayed away from Alien 3, because it didn't have a load of marines with guns and you had to use your brain a little."
Fixed that for you. - flangle, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4The universe is NOT a safe place. No guarantee of happy fairy tale endings.
- Elranzer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3They mostly come out at night... mostly...
- Jonmad17, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Was that a spoiler for Resident Evil: Extinction? I was planning on netflixing it but whatever.
The setting of 28 Days Later scared the ***** out of me.I cannot imagine being alone for the rest of my life. - MetalLizard, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Alright, sorry for bringing back this traumatizing memory, but it had to be done. Communion had the scariest setting, right next to fire in the sky. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szwvjXo_sHQ Damn you Christopher Walkin!
- EllimistX, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3I guess I wasn't the only one who immediately thought of Event Horizon......
- stockjones, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3A boy and his dog is one of those underground classics but I know a lot of poeple who have never seen it.
- Kev585, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Phantasm
Epic movie. - skabyss, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Aliens was only great because HR Giger was involved.
- B3000, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3"This film about a guy given weird "super soldier" drugs during Vietnam has strange religious overtones, but mostly is about someone driven crazy by government-conspiracy pharmaceuticals and high-tech warfare."
WRONG!!!
This guy missed the point of Jacob's Ladder altogether - there weren't just "religious overtones" - the story of Jacob's Ladder was ENTIRELY spiritual. The whole government experiment angle was a red herring, and was far from the actual truth of the situation. This guy REALLY missed the ***** boat if he really thinks that it is a movie about a super soldier serum and government conspiracies.
Was he too scared to watch the movie all the way through? Or was he too stoned to get it? Maybe he just need to take that angle in order to justify including a decidedly non sci-fi movie on a list of sci-fi movies? - jimb0, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Cloverfield Spoiler:
Cloverfield: The leaning apartment building was scary....who knows how structurally sound it was, but they went in anyway. - Culero, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2"night of the dolls" or something of the like. People stayed at this house or motel thing, and dozens of dolls in the attic came alive at midnight and "converted" people into dolls. scared the ***** out of me at the ripe young age that I was
- natedouglas, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2He was dying -- but don't forget, the reason he got killed was because of the Ladder. I think the Ladder still exists, no matter how you spin the story.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2which ending of SH2? there's like 5 or 6, although 2 are joke endings.
- Tippis, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I always wondered why an artificial-black-hole-machine had to be covered in spikes and embossed in what, at least at a distance, looked like mystic inscriptions...
- Elranzer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I (heart) Ripley / Sigourney Weaver. Closest thing we have to a live-action Samus Aran.
- Error601, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2How about "Cube". And they did it all with a single room set.
- MetalLizard, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Fire in the Sky gave me nightmares for 5+ years since I lived out in the country, and second because it was so damn realistic. Oh wait, what about that one scene in communion, where the grey alien peers around the corner? That ***** freaked me out BAD.
- takeo1775, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3in 'Sunshine' they go to the surface of the Sun, that freaked me out
- datastorageguy, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3That movie scared the hell out of me and still does. To me, it is the scariest movie I have ever seen.
- michaelfitz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1the boss. Y'know, the creature that Maria/Mary morphs into in the (serious) endings
- BabyWookie, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1How about the future scene in Terminator, where Reese comes back from his patrol and walks through the decrepit, over-crowded, underground shelter, with wretched, dirty, sick people all around, catching rats, burning bong fires, etc. ...and then, that terminator infiltrates and starts blasting every one with his plasma machine gun, with his eyes glowing red in the dark. That was some creepy ass *****. It really gave you a sense of the horror and despair that the survivors of Judgment Day were facing.
- mandarin, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1How about the Silent Hill hospital? That was scary.
- Chubs879, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Buried for Resident Evil: Extinction.
- MrFisty, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Alien 1 applauded for being moody and atmospheric. Alien 2 was applauded for being a popcorn action fest. Alien 3 was critized for being moody and atmospheric. Go figure.
- diktator279, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1That had some real potential to be hilarious, It is a shame it sucked so hard
- meed, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1burries for omiting Event Horizon, which I think is the scaries scifi movie ever made. Just that tunnel with the rotating things then you have the reactor chamber....
- TaintedWisdom, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1WOW Thats It!
Thanks a lot for finding the title for me guys, truly appreciate it.
Got to go watch this movie again and see if it brings any old memories (I was scare to $***) when I seen that movie, not even sure why, just pure terror and fear lol. - fujijuice, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah I realized my mistake after I posted, but I suppose in some ways the kids abilities could be considered sci-fi-ish.
- natedouglas, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1And gorgeous at the same time.
