You can drink 'em by the flagon
But the only brew for the brave and true
Comes from the Green Dragon! - TugOSpiegel, on 07/19/2009, -1/+49Nice to see that they're actually making big physical sets instead of just using cgi
- TSchiewe, on 07/19/2009, -1/+45Hobbits? Never heard of a Hobbit before, sounds like Orc mischief to me.
- jogleby, on 07/19/2009, -0/+39Don't tear it down after shooting this time. Leave it up and charge admission. I would fly to New Zealand to have an ale at the Green Dragon.
- doublefelix, on 07/19/2009, -0/+33A landscaping job on Hobbiton sounds like a pretty good gig.
- ophello, on 07/19/2009, -0/+27Did you watch the fellowship of the ring? 90% of all buildings and structures were either real or miniatures.
- spriggig, on 07/19/2009, -1/+26An ideal model for our future communities.
- seanthebond, on 07/19/2009, -0/+21Its like seeing an old friend...
- musicbear, on 07/19/2009, -0/+20Fool of a Took!
- musicbear, on 07/19/2009, -2/+20Exactly as they did the last time...
- j3ff86, on 07/19/2009, -0/+17Before they started filming the Lord of the Rings, they built Hobbiton and let it grow for a few years. They're doing the same thing this time.
- Richandler, on 07/19/2009, -1/+15They need to not tear it down again. How badass would it be to own one of those places?
- Jeebugorn, on 07/19/2009, -1/+15no
- Caergrim, on 07/19/2009, -3/+17I just wish Ian Holm would reprise his role as Bilbo Baggins.
- j3ff86, on 07/19/2009, -0/+10I can see the Shire.. the Brandywine River, Bag End, Gandalf's fireworks... the lights in the party tree.
- RoboRay, on 07/19/2009, -1/+10It's not weird at all. They build it now so that the plants, trees and crops are growing naturally when they film, rather than just bringing in a bunch of potted plants at the last minute and sticking them in the ground. They did the same thing for LotR.
- Newsdude, on 07/19/2009, -1/+9I see little People
- musicbear, on 07/19/2009, -0/+8popping in the Return of the King DVD...
- ksgant, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6Would be nice, but Ian is 77 years old now. I'm sure they could do a little digital foolery like they did with X-Men 3...but for a whole movie?
- Mujokan, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6You've got good eyesight if you can see the Brandywine from Hobbiton... (Well, you know what I mean. They are about 100 miles apart.)
- ophello, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6they have to dress them up, build the facades, plant real wildlife, let it become overgrown...its a long process.
Watch the LOTR dvd extended cuts and special featurettes. - ZeroCubed, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5I've watched the appendixes for all three extended editions more than I've seen the movies themselves. It's amazing to see how much work is put behind a movie the crew, director and writers themselves love, rather than just to make a profit. They actually built the sets, props and costumes wishing it was all actually real. Like Tolkien, they cared more about fulfilling a true vision than about making a ton of money - and they made a ton of money anyway :D
- ophello, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6They let it grow for one year, actually.
- stuffradio, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Pippin: [of Treebeard] Don't talk to it, Merry. Don't encourage it.
- theragu40, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Seriously. I'm so excited for this, but holy ***** if Daniel Radcliffe plays Bilbo I will be upset.
- CoreyTamas, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4(I know. That's kinda the point I was going for.)
- JuanDCope, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2All I could during the first series was "I want to live in the shire...." and not... the movie version but a real neighborhood built that way.
- martage, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2ah okay thank you
- schrutefan, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2The construction vehicles are enormous! WTF
- Mujokan, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Bilbo should be the same age as Frodo was in LOTR, so I think that would be pushing it. However, Frodo probably was a bit young in the film (from what I have seen: I can't stand to watch more than two minutes of it without an urge to throw something through the screen). Pippin and Frodo are fairly separated in age (Merry and Sam are in the middle).
- zeebo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Really, I bet if they looked they could even find somebody who could build bag end to be a reasonable facsimile of the set in the movie. Plenty of lesser movies have had their major sites preserved as tourist attractions, it might make a trip halfway around the world that much more appealing.
- runalonghome, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Comment #5 fta is win.
- sgerwel1985, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Wow i can't friggin wait.

- waddling, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2They do tours at $50 a pop http://www.hobbitontours.com/ Been there done that not a bad tour but it was looking pretty tired when I was there a few years back
- scooterbaga, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I thought so. So... what are they 'rebuilding' then?
- daltonmc, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Why? Because it's a black midget?
- ViscidGobs, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1They only look like children. It's like eating Olestra. It's like eating fat but it isn't. Just beware of the anal leakage.
- stuffradio, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Wrong movie.
- tnvwboy, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I wont speak for TugO, but I took his meaning to be he's tired of the over use of CG.
- cyrix, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1They're too old for you pedobear.
- poonaka, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1***** you two of my friends died using Blu-Ray!
