Hmm. They should elaborate on that. - stonedslacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27At the bottom:
OSCARTORRENTS®, and the OSCAR THE PIRATE® statuette design mark are the unregistered marks of the League of Noble Peers. No ©2007. Nothing to do with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences & ABC, Inc. All Rights Reversed. The Official Oscars is a sham produced by villiains in partnership with the cult of celebrity. By accessing this site you're probably comitting a felony somewhere -- but let your own idea of what is right and wrong be your guide. - LACHRYMIST, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4AAARRR!

They left out "and we just can't get enough of 'em". Interesting angle, hating something so much while risking so much to get it. Like monkeys pushing the cocaine button. - damonlab, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@roger
"To those worried about downloading in case they get sued"
People don't get sued for downloading, they get sued for distribution (uploading). Unfortunately, you cannot disable uploading when obtaining a torrent file. - QuidnuncQuixot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"To those worried about downloading in case they get sued: by our calculations, your chances of getting nailed are way less than your chances of winning the lottery."

Depends which client you use. But be a good torrenter and leave it on :). If everyone disabled uploading, you couldn't download anything.
- insovietrussia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28I love this time of year with all the quality screeners floating around!
- Shmoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2The text is hurting my eyes.
- Shmoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I should have known... the text spacing only shows up weird on Opera.
- pants428, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Am I the only one who thinks that A Scanner Darkly should have gotten a nomination for visual effects? That movie had an amazing look to it..
- lovek, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Now that you mention it, that is a pretty effin' ridiculous oversight. And for once I was thinking the Oscar noms weren't a COMPLETE clusterf*ck.
Maybe next year. - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Besides labor the editing was rather simple.
- pants428, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10um, there is a category for film editing, called "Film Editing" and that's a different thing than "Visual Effects"
- panuru, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Rotoscoping is a fairly old technique.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Rotoscoping is a fairly old technique."
He's right, not to mention there's some financial company that uses the exact same technique in its commercials. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's like saying "explosions are an old technique." They used it for a feature-length film, they did it well. A nomination, at least, especially considering what an amazing film it is.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A Scanner Darkly breaks no ground at all. Linklater already did "Waking Life" 5 years ago.
It wasn't nominated for an Oscar either, BTW. - excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It was also one of the most boring movies ever made.
- lovek, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Now that you mention it, that is a pretty effin' ridiculous oversight. And for once I was thinking the Oscar noms weren't a COMPLETE clusterf*ck.
- darthbob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25The MPAA can go screw themselves.
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -19/+7Way to go Digg. Helping the masses pirate movies.
- arbguy1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21yeah! way to go!!!

- steve693, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Their Children of Men torrent link is dead. . .
- jdoggxperience, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The one I wanted, too...
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8You can find it legally through Netflix.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Children of Men? On DVD? I know I got the DVD copy, but thats the Oscar DVD Screener copy.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3there's a perfect one on demonoid...
- Schda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or if you want to purchase a real copy because you support the movie, but don't want to wait for it to come state side you can order at amazon.co.uk You do need to have a region free DVD player and one that converts PAL to NTSC if you live in the US.... but a lot of DVD players already do that, especially the cheaper ones.
- awfulshot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I would prefer oscar-nzbs.com
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Shhh. You want nzb's to go the way of torrents and all other p2p?
Now bury this thread down and never mention THAT again.

- commodore64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I would rather find the torrents myself from the tracker I like.
- iSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's what I've been doing this weekend ;)
- pants428, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Rotoscoping is a fairly old technique."
And? Visual effects is not limited to cutting edge technology (and technically this is new technology, in the way it was implemented, i.e. using computer generated vector graphics) but rather it can apply to a movie that uses existing techniques to enhance the experience...- pants428, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2see:

- OldSchoolJohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's a shame that their voting system counts your vote for a particular movie across every category it's nominated in. You can't vote 5 for direction then 3 for a nominated actor from that same movie. It's a cool idea (the voting, no comment on the torrent aspect) that's pretty much broken in it's current state.
- psyphen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Dear god. My eyes have been burned out and replaced by searing balls of lack-of-designing-ability-ness.
- Flanker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Of course they'll stay up. It's a PirateBay project. (check the domain registration, or trust BoingBoing: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/02/11/piratebays_oscartorr.html )
- Fell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9The Oscars will forever be a sham until FIGHT CLUB is posthumously awarded what it rightfully deserves!
- SanTe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Amen. "Fight Club" is a better and more interesting film than "American Beauty," which was given the Best Picture Oscar for 1999. The only possible better film that year was "The Insider."
I liked the premise of "American Beauty" but thought it came up short in what it actually had to say and came across as a little pretentious. Could've been better. - martin993, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yet American Beauty is still a hell of a lot better than A-list circle-jerk The Departed.
- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Fight Club = great film
American Beauty = one of the greatest films ever
The Departed = one of the better films of this year
Best film of this year...APOCALYPTO
Only THE FOUNTAIN came close to being as good.
Stoooooopid Academy.

- JimGardner1973, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2For those that can't get the torrents to respond or don't want to wait 6 years for them to drip in a 2k a minute, all the films in the main categories are available on UseNet. I've just watched Children of Men - it's the best film I've ever seen. No, really!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"As it should be"?
If everyone just stole the best movies instead of paying for them, there would be no incentive at all to make good movies.
Completely ridiculous.
This is so very sad.- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There are some people that would say that good movies have to be made, not have to make money.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ HunterTV
And there are some people that would say that if they can shell out millions to make a movie, you can shell out 20 to buy the DVD. Not many good movies would be made if they don't make money.
- orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Newsgroups > Torrents.
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Oscars are nothing more than the Hollywood marketing machine at warp speed and they have a huge audience (group of suckers) who believe it means something. I hate this time of year--a different awards show every week. What a scam.
- ajck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And, uh, no-one thinks this site is secretly run by an MPAA related outfit to harvest IPs?....
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not really, all the torrents are links to "trusted" torrent sites, like BTJunkie (Well, depending on how paranoid you are, I suppose)

- seansshack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now this is just screaming to be shut down!!!
