- nahsrocketeer75, on 01/20/2009, -0/+17Godfather II was fantastic, but that's no excuse for making most of the other bombs on this list.
- Rollic, on 01/20/2009, -0/+15I completely forgot that Godfather II semi-counts as a prequel, but - aside from my childhood affection for Temple of Doom - I can't think of another one that's worth a damn.
BTW - how much does Hannibal Jr. in that Hannibal Rising photo look like Andy Samburg? - Pinkshisno, on 01/21/2009, -0/+7It's more like a reboot.
- MutatedNantuko, on 01/21/2009, -0/+7It also has lots and lots of annoying screaming.
- neocreo, on 01/21/2009, -1/+8They missed
Saw III-V
Cube: zero
Exorcist: The beginning
Ah, what the hey - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prequel. A very good list - spookyttws, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5I never understood why interesting stories needed to be followed by another story explaining why it should be interesting. I think a character's vague back story allow the watcher to imagine much a more interesting past than anything that would get green lit by a studio. I don't want to watch a lame telling of what made Han Solo or Indiana Jones cool, I want to imagine all the kick ass smuggling runs Solo made and all the risky situations Jones got out of to become the character I know and love. Apparently Lucas doesn't share my views.
- krahzee, on 01/21/2009, -1/+6Godfather II is simply in the top 5 movies ever made. the fact that it bookends the first film by flashing back throughout the movie without confusing the viewer is even more impressive.
Then you add in DeNiro as a young Vito Corleone and Lee Strasberg's brilliant portrayal of Hyman Roth. Amazing.
If you don't know who Strasberg was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Strasberg
Look at the people he trained. Then you will understand why the guy was so famous. - inactive, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4*sigh*
I miss Twin Peaks. - Maxwell1234, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4Actually a reboot, not prequal.
- jrtcs, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Watching a prequel is like reading the last chapter of a book first. You already know the ending.
- souldawg, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3But my case is that they were a series rather than just a one off. Three instead of one. For me, the series aspect of it was the worst idea rather than a one off that you could sort of write off.
- krahzee, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Even now, Temple of Doom is good for what it is: A fun, light-hearted action movie. Not everything has got to be some brilliant work of script writing or acting to make it worth one's time to watch.
- zip000, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3When I saw the pick I thought to myself - weird, Andy Samburg played a young Hannibal?!
That guy looks just like him - at least in that picture. - babydick, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Minus the dot.
- TheSpook, on 01/21/2009, -1/+4I enjoyed the SW prequels more than Dumb and Dumberer or Tremors 4.
- Bloodwine, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3A prequel is good if you don't know how it's going to end. Sure you know the protagonist is going to live, but that's usually a given anyways.
You didn't watch Temple of Doom and think, "I already know everything that is going to happen".
You are right in other cases, such as the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. - Maxwell1234, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Godfather was a sequal with LOTS of flashbacks, didn't stop them from mentioning it...
- spookyttws, on 01/21/2009, -1/+4Also throw that abortion of a movie "Rob Zombie's Halloween" into the ring. Not only does it simply detract from the series, it destroyed the mystique of the antagonist.
- glenshaw26, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2Young Indiana Jones Chronicles? Thanks for the laugh though.
- so1omon, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2I am the arm... and I sound like this "woowoowoowoowoo!"
- jcroweall7, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2To be fair to Lucas, he hasn't explained much about Han or Indy.
I'm sure he's sent scripts to Ford, though. I'm also sure Ford marked them "Return to *****." - Maxwell1234, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2would you really call it a prequal though?
- krahzee, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2Sort of. It's both the prequel and sequel at the same time.
- Crownclown213, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2Ok just to get this out of the way because people keep saying Batman Begins should be on the list. Batman Begins is not a prequel because it is not associated to the Keaton, Kilmer or Clooney movies. It is a brand new retake of the series based on Batman: Year One by Frank Miller. Also I dont know what category to put Quantum of Solace considering it is the continuation of Casino Royal which was a remake of the orignal, so that can either be classified as a reboot or sequel of a prequel.
- wtdoor, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1My wife is from Sri Lanka, where the movie was made; I think her family knows the producer or some such thing. When it pops up on T.V. she always laughs at the dialogue (I believe quite a bit of it is Sinhala). She said it's also pretty funny to see some of these serious Sri Lankan actors playing poor villagers, too ...
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -1/+2He looks that way because he jizzed... in... his pants.
- TheSpook, on 01/21/2009, -1/+2You sound like a left-brain thinker. As a right-brain thinker, I like to see it unfold. Different strokes for different folks...
- Spacejack, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1I still hate that term "prequel." Irritating, cutesy neologism. Bah.
- Elranzer, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1It's ok. As long as they're not stereotyping Jews, it's not racist.
- brainboy7777, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1temple of doom was the most racist thing i have ever seen. i can take jokes as much as the next guy, but that ***** was ***** up. i don't think spielberg did any research into the indian culture at all. we don't ***** eat snakes.
- souldawg, on 01/20/2009, -8/+9The Star Wars prequel has to be the worst prequel series ever made. Ever.
- Elranzer, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1To this day I still don't see what makes Temple of Doom a prequel necessarily. Is it because it doesn't have Sallah and the Nazis?
- Scaramanga7, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1I want my Gamonborzhia!
- Candrias, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Sorry, Casino Royale was the prequel not Quantum, my bad.
- Candrias, on 01/21/2009, -1/+1An interesting topic, but buried for the absence of Batman Begins and Quantum of Solace - two amazing prequels that saved a dying series.
- cheesehound, on 01/21/2009, -3/+3Man, I don't think these guys remember Temple of Doom correctly. I saw it again a year ago, and hot damn, that movie makes Crystal Skull look pretty great. Bizarrely dark, a very long and boring gross-out eating scene, and pretty much no action outside of the mine cart chase.
http://talbfij.ytmnd.com/ is by far the best thing in Temple of Doom. - coltrane68, on 01/21/2009, -2/+2A very fair-minded analysis.
- alexra, on 01/21/2009, -3/+2batman begins
- alexra, on 01/21/2009, -4/+2batman begins was a prequel right, it should be on this list, it was a very good prequel.
- AquaOSX, on 01/21/2009, -5/+3Temple of Doom ... really? ... really? The movie? Are you sure you're not thinking of some other doom or temple related movie? Because most of the world seems to agree that Temple of Doom was a turd sandwich with two smaller annoying turd sandwich side kicks.
