  • LogicBomB, on 12/10/2008, -0/+30The Dude from The Big Lebowski is my all-time favorite for a few great reasons:

    1. The movie is actually good - dialog, script, acting, all top-notch.
    2. It's a comedy that doesn't try too hard to be a comedy. It's subtle and natural, not joke-after-joke-after-joke.
    3. It's a stoner movie without a ridiculous focus on the weed itself. It's a background thing, and the character appeals to stoners but people aren't standing around talking about weed while smoking weed, etc...

    "Dale Denton: [while hiding in the woods, on the run from Ted's henchmen] Even if he found that roach, how could he find us?
    Saul: Um... heat-seeking missiles... bloodhounds... and foxes... barracudas...
    Dale Denton: I'm just - I'm kind of flabbergasted when you say things like that. It's weird.
    Saul: Thank you.
    Dale Denton: Not a compliment."

    They made him a martyr while wasting law-enforcement resources that could have been utilized against the war on terror or actual violent and financial abuse crimes.
