- feomatteo88, on 07/10/2009, -1/+62Seeing The Raiders Of The Lost Ark facemelting scene at 10 years old completely ruined me as a human being.
- dmanmax99, on 07/10/2009, -0/+36Dugg for a great list on a single page.
- andypop481, on 07/10/2009, -0/+29Oh come on, T2! After making us hate the terminator so much in the first, I almost cried when he was lowered into the molten steel in the second.
- theamazingkort, on 07/10/2009, -0/+27"Oh man, I shot Marvin in the face!"
- recockulous, on 07/10/2009, -1/+28You're freaking kidding me, right? That list omits perhaps the single most iconic death in cinematic history: Slim Pickens as Major Kong riding the bomb in Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

Unforgivable omission, IMHO. - mitthuman, on 07/10/2009, -2/+25....Boromir.....
- lex0nyc, on 07/10/2009, -2/+23What, no Old Yeller?
- kahoona1, on 07/10/2009, -1/+22Death of Maximus in Gladiator was a pretty memorable one.
- darknecross, on 07/10/2009, -0/+21Am I the only one who was blown away watching everybody die in Reservoir Dogs?
- PiratesNStuff, on 07/10/2009, -1/+21What about Thelma & Louise? Everybody knows that *****.
- HeadInJarMan, on 07/10/2009, -1/+21My favorite was the knife fight scene from Saving Private Ryan. I didn't sleep well for days.
- TitaniumWarrior, on 07/10/2009, -1/+17I'll just man up and say it, I cried at the end of Wrath of Khan....
- Genecalypse, on 07/10/2009, -4/+17Leonardo Decaprio dying in Titanic
- dafragsta, on 07/10/2009, -0/+12Five Pointed Palm Exploding Heart. Actually, all the deaths in any QT movie are pretty good. He does two things really well. Dialog and death.
Dennis Hopper gets killed by Christopher Walken and the shootout in the hotel room in True Romance, Beaumont getting wasted and Melanie getting shot in the parking lot in Jackie Brown, Mr. White killing Mr. Orange, Jules and Vincent shooting the guy who comes out of the bathroom and unloads his gun into the wall. I know I'm forgetting quite a few. Kill Bill has plenty in it's own right. - lasermic, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12Boromir's death is so much overlooked. Really a moving scene.
- e36wheelman, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11Two more Kubrick deaths:
Pvt. Pyle in FMJ. "I am in a world... of *****!"
Frank in 2001. The image of a guy floating hopelessly away in space is iconic and now often imitated. - jmdwinter, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12omg yes! Sean Bean was so good in that role.
- Firespray1138, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11The Terminator in Terminator 2?
- TheJimid, on 07/10/2009, -2/+12Obi Wan didn't die, he became one with the force, much like the Jesus from what my evangelical pals tell me.
- mishabear, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10How about the guy getting OBLITERATED due to a malfunction at the beginning of RoboCop?
- rl41, on 07/10/2009, -1/+10Obi-Wan was definitely worthy... but what about the Emperor? Vader's slam dunk deserves at least an honorable mention.
- STPZ, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8Great movie, never have I hated a character as much as I hate Pvt. Upham. I was practically yelling at the screen when I was a kid seeing that part. Well played Jeremy Davies.
Edit: What about Caparzo's death or unlucky german sniper #1 or Pvt Jackson for that matter come on. Gawd I love that movie. "PARKER GET DOWN!!" - trujillonorte, on 07/10/2009, -3/+10awesome list!
- Dealjobber, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8The Sponge is dry:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KMnAm7fiUo - jmdwinter, on 07/10/2009, -1/+7I thought about that one but then I remembered that the 'thumbs up' was probably the only corny part of the movie.
- jmdwinter, on 07/10/2009, -0/+6Hans Brix?
- HeadInJarMan, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6Except Obi-Wan could kick Jesus' ass.
- mrkmrk, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6I cry watching that to this day (but I'm a sap). :(
- BREZZZ, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6Negative. jesus has healing powers and resurrection. The best you could hope for is a tie. Jesus would revive Obi Wan every time he exhausts himself while he turns the other cheek.
- batmanz, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6Braveheart?
- Coolkidchris, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5Wash in Serenity
- dafragsta, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5Too theatrically sappy. It was like watching Bugs Bunny "It's gettin' daak dock!"
- rockon4life45, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5I was prepared for a bad list.
I'm thoroughly impressed by the thoroughness of this list. - Black6x, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4Two that always stick with me:
Mufasa's death in Lion King.
Jean Reno's death in The Professional. - tdogg241, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5Yeah, the thumbs up kinda kills the emotional impact of the Terminator's death.
- InfinitySnatch, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4Needs more Equilibrium when that black guy *lost face*.
- jmdwinter, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5'Favourite' is not the right word for that scene.
- andrewire, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3The death of Bambi's mother was the end of my childhood
- tdogg241, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Not nearly as iconic as "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
- greggerm, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3The Departed -
Mafia movies make for great death scenes. - vagrant13, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Laura Palmer...maybe not as popular but that ***** was ***** up.
- SalmonGod, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3A few of mine
--------------------
Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) in The Prestige... over and over again
Phil Connors (Bill Murray) in Groundhog Day... over and over again
Here's the king of them all in my book
Gollum in Lord of the Rings - the book, not the movie - In the book, he loses himself so much in his ecstacy that he dances over the edge. In the movie, he's thrown over in a tussle with Samwise. *****. I've read those books twice, the first time as a small child. They taught me a lot of things.
The most important lesson, the greatest underlying theme of all of Tolkien's work in my opinion, is the very nature of good vs evil. LotR taught me that good doesn't triumph over evil. Rather, good perseveres until evil destroys itself. Evil has no friends. Evil knows only destruction to get its way. All evil alliances are built on resentment and ambition, and eventually turn into rivalry - and the fellowship is repeatedly rescued by villainous infighting (most notably between Saruman and Sauron, another part Peter Jackson ***** up but that's unrelated to the epic death thing). All evil plans operate on destructive force/manipulation, and that destruction always turns around in the end. This climaxes in Gollum's death, as the ring had so thoroughly destroyed Gollum's mind in efforts to preserve itself that it orchestrated its own destruction, as Gollum danced unwittingly into the Crack of Doom.
Most iconic death ever, even if Peter Jackson ***** it up. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Han Solo murdering Greedo in Star Wars. Because it's true.
- Samo89, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3how the hell is darth vader not on that list?!?!?!?!?
- mrkmrk, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Yeah, 친구 was the first thing I thought of, too (obviously).
:) - bci84, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3The Underworld death was done better in Equilibrium.
- dafragsta, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Man, you gotta have an opinio-*BANG!
- Ceelos, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Hey! It's all he could do man. His freaking body was in lava!
- mrpunman, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4As corny as it sounds today, it was sad when I watched it as a 12 yr old kid.
- ciar, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3I did :(
