To be controversial, you have to show *****.
Yay. - meez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61Deep Throat is there. Look harder.
- spookyttws, on 10/12/2007, -3/+55I'm amused they edited the expletives, but posted pictures of violence and nudity. Very symbolic of how messed up the MPAA rates movies.
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -16/+60Really? I'm using Firefox and it's fine for me, it stopped everything.
- Vokas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44That movie was just crap, not controversial.
- akcoder, on 10/12/2007, -26/+62This site is filled with pop ups - even made it past Firefox's pop up blocker. Marked as spam

In America, all you need to do is hint to the slightest degree towards sex and you are controversial. We are a country who celebrates war, violence, and religion and denounces sex and anything against religion. You notice there is no Scarface or American History X etc... Almost all of the movies that are controversial are ones that have to do with exposing us more to sex or different religious views, but violence in the end isn't much of a concern. We certainly are a prude and uptight nation considering we supposedly have the separation of church & state and all this freedom. When in actuality, much of Europe is more mature than we have shown to be. In the end, we still declare wars and say we have religious righteousness on our side, we ban anything and everything sexual in nature, and restrict our own citizen's freedoms constantly. I think the epidemy of this argument is the issue on homosexuality. The greatest and most free nation in the world who accepts any religion banning sexual choices of individuals behind closed doors and citing reasons of certain religions. - NeoCortex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Never thought I would see Disney's Aladdin and Deep Throat on the same list of movies. The internet never ceases to surprise me.
- Indeed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23I'm kind of shocked that the only film ever to have been blacklisted in the United States is not on here: "Salt of the Earth"
http://www.hepdigital.com/salt/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047443/
It's really good too. - seeohpee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Waaaay too late. Started off with Aladdin, so I thought "oh, this should be an interesting list".
Should bear in mind that the list is not only the most controversial movies, but images of the scenes that make it so. - CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Frank Sinatra threatened to divorce Mia Farrow if she did Rosemary's Baby. Sinatra later served her divorce papers on set in front of the cast and crew.
- nevesis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21It includes Cannibal Holocaust!
I'd say that this list is pretty accurate! - cscalfani, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Banned or controversial for:
1. Sex
2. Religious Blasphemy
3. Realistic Depictions of Violence (esp. sexual in nature). - doskir, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25wheres american history x ?
- graemee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Some torrent sites will be busy tonight
- RAEP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16There are more Disney movies on there too.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19There's about 5 there I'm definitely downloading.
- justinsimonin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17this list is really comprehensive and interesting... awesome!
- mweflen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Holy pop-ups, Batman!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I think ad block stops the pop up from coming up :o. I didn't even get a bar saying that there was an attempt at a pop up.
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10they forgot one very important film:
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8697/arresteddevelopmentlescex8.jpg - GunOfTheMartyr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I don't see American History X on there. How the hell did Aladdin get on there and not American History X? Last I checked, American History X had a scene that guaranteed a cringe, even the most desensitized of people cringe at the curb stomp. Not to mention the prison rape.
- str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11They keep getting the Aladdin one wrong, I was in Asia at the time and had the chance to see a bootlegged version of the movie which from what I clearly remember stated "Where they cut off your head if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but hey it's home" ..it's a small thing, but that's the correct version of the lyrics.
- TimoP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9There was controversy over Oldboy. I must've completely missed that.
- Mu99ins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Some of those flicks would get a PG13 or better rating today. If you haven't seen "Devils",
do so. And if you can read books, then read the book. It's even more violent. "Devils of Loudin".
I was glad that "The Big Lebowski" wasn't too controversial, since it said the f-word a world record
of 281 times.
"Kicked in the Head" & "Pulp Fiction" would've been controversial 30 years ago. And 30 years ago,
"Taxi Driver" dealt with some graphic violence, racism, fear & loathing.
And talking about fear and loathing, "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas"...even some adults shouldn't see
that film. I recommend it.
I can think of a film that no one should be allowed to see, "World According to Garp", where a dude
gets his pride 'n' joy bitten off. - cryptomystic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10no Battle Royale?
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@CkMaverick, you bloviating moron. The following films were banned in parts of open-minded Europe:
Baise Moi
Cannibal Holocaust
A Clockwork Orange
The Devils
The Evil Dead
Freaks
Hail, Mary
Henry: Portrait of A Serial Killer
Kids
The Last House on the Left
Last Tango In Paris
The Last Temptation Of Christ
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Natural Born Killers
A Real Young Girl
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Viridiana - p51d007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Here's one I thought would make the cut, considering the "PC" culture of today.
Mel Brooks, "Blazing Saddles".......you know......the sheriff is "near".
The uncut version is one of the funniest movies ever made. If it were played to
every kid over the age of 12, until they get out of high school, maybe people wouldn't have
such a thin skin. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm paying you boys to build a railroad! Not to jump around like a bunch of Kansas City *****!
- Vega310, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10@Nysul
Well with no NSFW warning and going by title alone I for one expected to see at most the film names, possibly box art, along with the reasoning behind being on the list. When I think controversial films I picture something like "The Last Temptation of Christ", not "French whore with a ***** in her mouth". Controversial =/= porn. - kanzler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9The correct translation of "Baise Moi" is "***** me", not "Rape me".
- laceration, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I got them, I ended up just incrementing the page in the address bar, they didn't come up then.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Wierd, I'm on Firefox and didn't get a single pop-up.
- 0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This list of movies had some repulsive stuff in it and sometimes it just got sicker and sicker, yet I couldn't stop myself from looking at every one. Hrm...
- nidus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Crappy website + boobs = over a 1000 digs
- thrallie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7you all need to look PAST THE FIRST PAGE. There is a ton of violent horrible, sexual rape filled movies. Plus many of them are controversial for political reasons. Why don't you people go through the sites pages instead of reading the first one?
- SkippySkip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Str3ama:
"They keep getting the Aladdin one wrong, I was in Asia at the time and had the chance to see a bootlegged version of the movie which from what I clearly remember stated "Where they cut off your head if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but hey it's home" ..it's a small thing, but that's the correct version of the lyrics."
I have the original soundtrack. It is definitely "...cut off your ears..."
Not head.
But who cares? :) - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think Battle Royale was that controversial.
- TrueVox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm running 2.0.0.3 in Feisty Beta, and I too am getting popups (two are blocked, but one or two more happen that get through each time I click ANYWHERE on the page).
- dyforg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Ya know, I generally hate lists, but this was actually pretty well thought-out, is fairly inclusive, and gives good justification for each inclusion. Nice.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6No... most people probably haven't even heard of 80% of the movies on that list.
- indy500fan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I got popups also with vanilla firefox. Annoying, there were two or three every page.
- ponyfreak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4this story was so great that am going to buy every single product that pops up...
...with your credit card - furntree, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5At least they put Caligula...thats the first one that came to my mind
- akcoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For the record, I am using Adblock and Flashblock and the popups still made it though. The popups happened when I clicked on text in the page...
- sid0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That is automatically implied -- they don't have a time machine.
Fire up the DeLorean folks, we're going at 88 mph! - MetalLizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3When I saw the trailer for Black Snake Moan with Samuel L Jackson, I thought maybe that would be on the list. Seeing as how; in the theater there we're about a group of 10 African-American males yelling, "Take that white bitch. Now you be chained up like we was!" Anyway... where's the outrage for that? Imagine if it were an African-American female in chains in that movie, with a white person "owning" her. It's okay if it's a black guy though, since it's Samuel L Jackson and *****.
Go here to see what I'm talking about:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount_vantage/blacksnakemoan/ - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, the literal translation of "Baise Moi" is "Kiss Me", which in slang means "***** Me" -- much like screwing doesn't always refer to material assembly.
