- chris4404, on 09/08/2008, -3/+164"We’re suffering from what I call Batman blowback. The Motion Picture Association of America gave The Dark Knight a PG-13 rating and basically sucked Warner Bros. *****…The MPAA changes their rules willy-nilly and it depends on who’s seeing your actual movie at the time. It’s very difficult to get a hold on what’s acceptable. The only thing you can use is current standards. So I go and see The Dark Knight and I say, “Gee, that’s pretty gnarly for PG-13,” but I felt good about Max Payne after coming out of the theater. I thought Max wasn’t going to have a problem. And that’s not the case. They’re coming down on us pretty hard.
Moore goes on to say that the MPAA’s inconsistencies are really coming back to haunt the organization:
[The MPAA] really hung themselves with The Dark Knight. Every other filmmaker in town is knocking on their door saying, “Please sir, may I have my PG-13 rating and be as fair to my movie as you were to The Dark Knight.”
From Slashfilm. - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -2/+124I find images of Dane Cook outrageously offensive. Whom do I complain to?
- dan322420, on 09/08/2008, -1/+114The MPAA can ban whatever they want, they will not influence what i watch. I mean seriously who is not going to watch this film over what they say or do?
- Stormwern, on 09/08/2008, -2/+87"The MPAA hates sexual imagery, unless it involves Dane Cook."

- ShibbieZ, on 09/08/2008, -2/+53Only one way to settle this. Tag team wrestling match. Rogen and Banks on Cook and Alba. LETS GET IT ON.
and for the love of GOD, hit DC below the belt. - rjc5056, on 09/08/2008, -2/+46everyone should really watch This Film Is Not Yet Rated for more dirt on the MPAA. I had no clue the review board was comprised primarily of conservative, middle-aged housewives with nothing better to do with their day. They have no rubric or finite rating guidelines and no accountability for biased or ***** ratings. The only recourse a filmmaker gets is appealing the review and that often goes nowhere in terms of changed ratings without usually altogether omitting the "offensive" scene (and ostensibly the surrounding context).
Congrats, America. The federal government has given you a permanent entertainment nanny because you're just too unable to handle what these depraved directors want to throw at you. I know a room of 20 Sarah Palins sounds like a perfectly appropriate filter for which every demographic in the country's entertainment passes through. - dafragsta, on 09/08/2008, -8/+51This is soooo not even remotely offensive to ANYONE but the most uptight bible thumper. I don't even think most kids would a) have any idea what was going on in the first place or b) see anything that would really make them ask questions.
In other news, I'd like to tee-off from Dane Cook's head with a Louisville Slugger. - MaxMWood, on 09/08/2008, -1/+39That advert is genius! Took me a few seconds to see the heads down below.
- HillerMylife, on 09/08/2008, -0/+33The problem is that theatre owners are shackled by the MPAA. If they try to show an unrated movie, the best that happens is they're labeled an "Arthouse Theatre," and look snobby to your average joe. The worse, and more likely, scenario is that people picket the theatre and boycott it.

I'm so lonely... - maceelk, on 09/08/2008, -0/+31Elizabeth Banks has got to be one of the hottest "down for awkward roles" actresses out there.
I wonder if she can top that bath tube scene in 40 year old virgin - thickape, on 09/08/2008, -4/+32Seth Rogen hearts shiksas.
- mrgermy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+26I love bath tubes. Very confining but they give you a sense of security.
- blackbeardtron, on 09/08/2008, -1/+26Can you blame him? Elizabeth Banks has real shiksappeal.
- ryansmith18, on 09/08/2008, -2/+26Really? When I first heard of it I thought that Kevin Smith + Seth Rogen would be gold. Definitely looking forward to it.
- DickMasterson2, on 09/08/2008, -2/+26The MPAA doesnt care about black people...
- dan322420, on 09/08/2008, -0/+23For info on why you are being dugg down please watch. "This film is not yet rated".
- Zippo, on 09/08/2008, -0/+23I've always been confused by the mixed up priorities of censorship...
Basically, we're teaching people that violence, death, war, etc is just peachy... but by god, sex, the human body, and everything natural to our species is TERRIBLE. - firebirdx01, on 09/08/2008, -0/+22The MPAA is a freakin suburban mom-run group in Cali- watch "This Film is not Yet Rated" for the lowdown on how this works
- ancalagon73, on 09/08/2008, -1/+21Just get Rogen and Cook out of there and I'm with you on that.
- Gooba, on 09/08/2008, -0/+19Same thing they did for Titanic and the exposed breast. Two of the biggest movies in America and they both got the rules bent to be PG-13. ***** the MPAA.
- tablatronix, on 09/08/2008, -1/+19Why the hell does the MPAA have a say in film marketing?
- brenbart, on 09/08/2008, -0/+18In general, the MPAA hates every film that is not produced by the big studios.
In particular, the MPAA hates Kevin Smith.
Check out 'This Film Is Not Yet Rated' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/ - yokes, on 09/08/2008, -0/+18Also, it was mentioned at the Q&A after the movie that the poster was not banned in Canada.
- norman619, on 09/08/2008, -1/+19I didn't know they had any say in the marketing of any film. WTF?!
- deadprezident, on 09/08/2008, -0/+17the MPAA

Their appeals process is a joke.
The only time I care about the MPAA rating is if I'm thinking of taking my kid to it and even then it's pretty useless. I'd much rather they provided a more specific rundown of the movie's content. - dOOBiEx213, on 09/08/2008, -2/+18***** the DEA.
- barfooz, on 09/08/2008, -1/+17It's not even the poster, it's the name of the film that's probably got them up in a tizzy. For Middle America, that's pretty risque. Parents don't want to have to explain to their 8 year old kids what a porno is.
And don't even start trying to pin me as a uptight bible thumping whatever. I just happen to have realistic expectations of what average people are comfortable with in the public sphere. - jamesduh, on 09/08/2008, -5/+20While we're both at that, ***** THE FISA ACT.
- btschul, on 09/08/2008, -3/+18Why are you getting dugg down? It's true. Biden wants the government to help the MPAA put you in jail and take hundreds of thousands of dollars of your money.
- ahoyhoy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+14Sex Cauldron!? I thought they closed that place down?

- PhantomRogue, on 09/08/2008, -1/+14***** everyone who tries to think for me.
I have the ability to see the difference between life and a movie.
Don't impose on me, your views of 'proper sexuality'
I don't need you to tell me what I can watch on my TV.
Because I live in the land of the mother-***** free. - muleskinner, on 09/08/2008, -7/+20I don't really see that poster as appropriate material either. I understand the hypocrisy of the MPAA, but honestly, that poster is only really suited for an internet campaign. My nieces love to walk up and down the isles of movie posters when I take them out to watch something, and I can imagine that even though they are too young to know whats being alluded to in the poster, they would most definitely notice the heads and ask what it means. I'm sorry, but I would be a little pissed to see that poster at our local theater. I don't take my nieces to the movies so I can explain the birds and the bees.
- 032483, on 09/08/2008, -1/+13I think the point is the MPAA isn't fair to everyone across the board. If Dane Cook can be shirtless and get head in a movie poster then Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks should be able to portray the same(Fully clothed even).
- malechite, on 09/08/2008, -0/+12People protested dogma... Kevin actually attended one of the protests!
