- commodorius, on 03/20/2009, -0/+42Let's get this party started...someone knock over a llama.
- billricardi, on 03/20/2009, -0/+31Dugg for:
“Guys, I don’t give a ***** about what else happens in this movie, but if the credits roll and there’s so much as one ***** llama standing I swear to God I am going to lose it.” - bluepill2, on 03/20/2009, -0/+16That was one of the most insightful and-at-the-same-time funny commentaries I've ever read on the topics of Lucas, Spielberg, Indiana Jones and old versus new hollywood in general.
Wow.
Who is this author and why is he posting under Daniel O Brien's name?? - Cl1mh4224rd, on 03/20/2009, -1/+14> "A few decades ago, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas 45 hours of conversations..."
But did they *accidentally* 45 hours of conversations? - aviazn, on 03/20/2009, -0/+12The original Raiders story sessions are real; the Crystal Skull ones are parody.
Here's another analysis of the Raiders sessions, with pointers to take away for aspiring screenwriters.

They're really fascinating; here's the exact moment where Spielberg comes up with the idea for the boulder:
S — You know what it could be. I have a great idea. He hears the sand... When he goes into the cave, it's not straight. The whole thing is on an incline on the way in. He hears this, grabs the thing, comes to a corridor. There is a sixty-five foot boulder that's form-fitted to only roll down the corridor coming right at him. And it's a race. He gets to outrun the boulder. It then comes to rest and blocks the entance of the cave. Nobody will ever come in again. This boulder is the size of a house. - monkeyrun, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11lol the conversation's more entertaining than the movie.
- danieob, on 03/20/2009, -0/+10See, that's what I'm trying to figure out as I keep reading these transcripts. Did Lucas and Spielberg make Raiders because they were smarter and more creative when they were younger and gave up once they got rich? OR, did Lucas just get more self-confidence? Hell, he can say "I made Star Wars AND Indiana Jones- what right does anyone have to tell me my ideas are bad?" Because, I can say I'm guilty of that on a smaller scale, and I'm sure most people who work creatively can say the same thing. If you have enough successes, either personal or financial, you must get to a point where you just think you have the magic touch, right?
If the guy behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones says "Trust me, Jar Jar Binks is a good idea," how do you tell him he's wrong? - Shiftgood, on 03/20/2009, -0/+7I think you're dead on. They have lose critical mind and are not forced (by themselves) to explore new ideas.. they just think they are right. But being an artist/designer myself, I think there is something else that comes from being down. I wish I had factual data or a concrete analogy to back it up... but all I can say is that some of the best work has emotion invested into it... and perhaps a bit of insanity.
I just dont think that all those parts come into play when you are stupid rich and famous. - nico623, on 03/20/2009, -5/+1145 hours of conversation and all that came out of it was different ways to rape Indy..
- memper, on 03/20/2009, -0/+6And here I thought professors were at the bottom, financially and socially.
- ru1dt, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5I commented on cracked, but I'll repeat here so you guys get the benefit as well..
"they carry boxes over their heads. They fall off cliffs."
is a reference to the old Tarzan movie in which the African natives were helping the English carry their luggage (boxes) up the side of a mountain. When the gorillas starting throwing rocks down, they fell off the cliff. - trimsheenapple, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5The Raiders part is real, the Crystal Skull part is parody. So I guess you don't get it.
- FreydNot, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4You really whipped that llamas ass
- Hedragon, on 03/21/2009, -1/+5http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama

- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4umm. no its not. its Cracked
- GeyserShitdick, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Well I don't usually bury comments either, but...oh, who the ***** am I kidding, I bury comments all the time.
Yours is no exception.
PS: I buried your stupid comment. - Groady, on 03/20/2009, -1/+5This could have been funnier/more relevant about 6 months ago.
- danieob, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4@Shiftgood- Yeah, I wish I could remember where I heard it first, but someone said that your best work is the first thing you create. Something about how, when you're starving and you have no one to answer to and no expectations to meet, you're completely free. Everything after that, the theory suggests, is tainted because everything will be looked upon as either something that builds upon or works towards rejecting the original work. After your first, published work, you'll always be working under the shadow of that work.
I don't know if I necessarily agree with that, because I feel like I can point to dozens of authors or filmmakers or musicians who've gotten better with time, but it's still worth considering.
@sickbag69- The article's a spoof, but the original transcript on which the article is based is very real, and that's what's we're pretentiously talking about here. - novicechap, on 03/20/2009, -1/+4I pity the third guy, Lawrence Kasdan. 45 hours with those Lucas and Steven!!!
Only some more people are more pitiable. Those who download that transcript and read the whole thing. Man, you guys are intense! - scoottie, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3News Flash:
All the good movies of our time came from people actually thinking about and debating their ideas rather than throwing whatever crap came out of their ass onto the screen like most film makers do now. - spyd3rweb, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3The whole 45 hours?
- GeyserShitdick, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3I know TWO people who've read the IMDB trivia page for Raiders of the Lost Ark!
- FinalStriker, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3Could you talk Foward?
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3Nice thesis but it doesn't account for Tolkien. He had a professorship while writing LotR.
- Latigoliath, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2Tina, you fat lard eat your food.
- Shiftgood, on 03/20/2009, -1/+3So what can we learn from this?
That people are at their best creatively when they are at the bottom financially and socially. When you get to rich and too popular you start making movies where you nuke a fridge, or have clones attack.
Apply this to an economic melt down of a rich country and I think what you can project is a re-invention of the American culture. You might even argue that a it could stem renaissance.
nature is cyclical. - crocodial, on 03/20/2009, -1/+3that happened because he was sick (dysentary, i think). something he picked up in tunisia, where they filmed. he dreaded the intended fight scene and did the gun trick instead.
- crocodial, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2like it or not, moviemakers use stereotypes to communicate with the audience. that doesn't make it racist.
- LargeStack, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2Wow this author is a riot. Some of the funniest and most bizarre comments about Spielberg and Lucas.
Those crazy Italians! - crocodial, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2cracked added some fake commentary. all of the clippings from the one at page 22 (chinese driving while doing calculus) to the end are fakes.
- ZooCoug, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2"Aliens is just a placeholder"
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -1/+3Uh, Speilberg and Lucas were both rich already when they made Raiders. George Lucas could have retired after American Graffiti and Star Wars. Speilberg had already made Jaws and Close Encounters, so try again.
- ThanatosSr, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Read the original 'Back to the Future' script...
It took 24 years, but Spielberg finally got to nuke someone inside a refrigerator... - boshuda, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1"We were just outside of Barstow when the drugs began to take hold..."
- SanDiablo78, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1How exactly were Lucas and Spielberg at the bottom financially when Raiders was conceived? They were coming off massive hits; Star Wars, Jaws, E.T., etc.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 03/20/2009, -1/+2Eat your dinner tina!
- loki49152, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Cyclical?
You mean this has all happened before, and will all happen again? - KJ83, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1It doesn't have to happen again...
Frak that was a great finale. - spookyttws, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1In case it wasn't overtly obvious the more recent talks that 'they just sent it to me' was all fake. (well, I guess it becomes less obvious when you actually watch Crystal Skull).
- Latigoliath, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Last year a friend and i 23 hours of chit-chat.
- anexanhume, on 03/20/2009, -1/+2What they didn't discuss was Ford pulling out the gun and shooting the guy who put on a show with his scimitar. That was good ole' improvisation on his part :D
- TheTorontonian, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1I saw that episode too, it was funny.
- fauxXenophanes, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1What the audience might react to !!!!
Yes Digg, we have a lucid comment! - dimonneon, on 03/20/2009, -0/+145 hours with those Lucas and Steven!!! it's incradibly (sory for my bad english)
- protogenxl, on 03/20/2009, -2/+2No. Search not. Inspiration will you not find. It will find you.
- Fleagleman, on 03/22/2009, -1/+1Your point? I got it, Captain Obvious. Still a joke.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1So, this whole 'leave out the verb' meme has gone mainstream?
