- geneusutwerk, on 10/21/2008, -1/+18With Guillermo Del Toro on board I expect the Hobbit to be stunning. With the art he has incorporated into Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage I can't imagine what he will do with the Hobbit.
- nurbsenvi, on 10/21/2008, -3/+15Just don't make the runtime 3 hours with that 3D glasses or it will be a vomit-fest.
- snagra, on 10/21/2008, -1/+13Huh?
- divinediva, on 10/21/2008, -1/+13IMAX is a fantastic medium.
- raw10, on 10/21/2008, -1/+12Ya think?
- kbir007, on 10/21/2008, -1/+10IMAX, hell yes. 3D, hell no.
- kbir007, on 10/21/2008, -0/+7It's just that fact that, to me, 3D seems to lessen what should be such an epic film as The Hobbit should be. Like it's some kind of gimmick to get people out to see it. I can see it now, subtitles at the bottom of the screen, "Put on 3D glasses now!" Let's keep 3D to amusement parks, possibly a cool feature for documentaries, or crappy kid movies like Spy Kids 3D. IMAX on the other hand, makes the film more epic and doesn't cheapen the overall feel of the movie.
- Jkylman, on 10/21/2008, -0/+5I would love an IMAX Hobbit film. But, 3D? It seems like something that would work best for other types of movies, not something like the Hobbit
- ChunkerMunker, on 10/21/2008, -1/+6Making a 3-D version doesn't necessarily mean, everything on the screen for the entire duration of the movie will be in 3-D. Its just certain aspects in the film.
The Dark Knight IMAX was easily the best movie watching experience I've ever had. Combining both technologies in what will hopefully be an amazing movie, would be historic and a game changer to say the least. - cygnus2112, on 10/21/2008, -0/+5Since 3D doesn't really even work for my eyes - all it has the effect of doing is accentuating the reds and blues and making the picture look *****. Hopefully they reconsider 3D as the campy medium that it always has been and stick to filming action sequences in IMAX.
- doubl3d, on 10/21/2008, -0/+4Holy *****, really?
- illt, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3i'm sure the 3d technology james cameron is using is fantastic.
- plingboot, on 10/21/2008, -1/+4>With the art he has incorporated into >Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage I can't imagine >what he will do with the Hobbit.
I can, I'd imagine it'd be something along the lines of the excellent Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphange. - cygnus2112, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3Funny. ;)
But all kidding aside, I have tried. I have poor eyesight out of one eye. So I can't see things like 3D movies, Magic Eye posters, some depth perception (like the 3d flies in the books at the optometrist's office), etc properly.
Isn't it a pain in the ass to wear cardboard "glasses" anyway? Has there ever been a non-***** 3D movie? - facespaz, on 10/21/2008, -1/+3Oh....My....G-g-gh......
- kazamx, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2I think its just that the medium hasn't matured. As with most new tech people start using it for crazy amusing things but over time people work out how to really make it tick.
How many terrible movies were made in the early days with CGI? The director had this new toy and just used as much CGI as he could cram into the film. Who cares about story, we got CGI!
Over time directors have started to use CGI just like any other trick of the trade and incorporated in into their fikms to add to the dramatic effect and not overwhelm it. I bet a smart guy can do the same with 3D - LegomanArt, on 10/21/2008, -1/+3I just hope it won't be too over the top. I have a lot of faith in his directing but I just don't want him making up characters and *****.
- SupaFlyTNT, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2U gotta use the glasses...... ;)
- SupaFlyTNT, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2Captain EO? w. Michel jackson stands out, but i was only a kid, so maybe not so great. Other than that....your right; nope.
- nick111, on 10/21/2008, -2/+4Wouldn't IMAX make the hobbits... massive?
- nathanbe, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2IMAX is only good if you're going to film entirely in it, I remember watching The Dark Knight and being thrown off by the switching back and forth between 1.44:1 ("square") to 2.35:1 (widescreen) within the 1.44:1 screen. Plus if they were going to film in that format (or 3-D for that matter) they're going to lose the continuity with the original trilogy from a technical and visual standpoint.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching 3-D and IMAX but I don't think it's a good idea with The Hobbit films... - Crazymaniacc, on 10/21/2008, -2/+3DO NOT WANT!
- antdude, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I thought that was annoying. I'd rather watch it DLP on a small screen.
- GetItBuilt, on 10/21/2008, -1/+23-D is the way to go. Soon all movies will have a 3-D option. It's evolution baby, and I love it.
- nugx, on 10/21/2008, -0/+1Two-part? Come on!

- SoldOutMatinee, on 10/21/2008, -2/+2del Toro only produced The Orphanage. Other than that, I agree with you.
- impedance101, on 10/21/2008, -1/+1Why do all directors want to look like Michael Moore?
- nurbsenvi, on 10/21/2008, -2/+1also
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRn5-LQCg2s - socialexpert, on 10/21/2008, -11/+2I think "The Hobbit" was the predecessor of The Lord of the Rings. Now, after three Lord of the Rings movies, two Hobbit movies will follow in 2011 and 2012.
