"The Dark Knight" Selling An Avg Of 10 Tickets Per Second!
huffingtonpost.com — "The Dark Knight" was selling an average of about 10 tickets per second on online movie-ticket site Fandango.com as fans went to see Heath Ledger and connect with one of the nation's most mystical superhero franchises.

- stafa786, on 07/18/2008, -4/+114Christian Bale is a badass.
- ThePerkins, on 07/19/2008, -31/+4I think he's a good actor, but I would check your teeth for his ball hair before you speak again.
- damian7, on 07/19/2008, -3/+13Christian Bale is the only exception to being gay. In fact, NOT liking Christian Bale means you are gay.
- ReFreshR, on 07/19/2008, -13/+7While the movie was enjoyable it was somewhat disappointing as well. Maybe I was expecting to much. Just to muddled and too many character being jiggled every which way not to mention the fast cutting to where you don't know what is what. One thing for sure. While the hype is with Ledger this movie belongs to Aaron Eckhart who does an outstanding job as Harvey Dent.
- VacantThoughts, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2I agree with you somewhat, at times the movie was a little hard to follow as they were throwing out name after name of people who get as little as 30 seconds of screen time and you were supposed to be piecing all of these characters together to form a coherent plot. And Eckhart was fantastic, when he first did the coin flip (not the first time with Joker but the cop in the bar) I was like "HOLY ***** this is a convincing two face"
Considering the only other movie Two Face was casted horribly, though I feel that way about all of the previous Batman movies characters. - USER1236, on 07/19/2008, -1/+0Hey Eckart think about the future!
- supertaliman, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I felt the same exact way, the movie was extremely enjoyable, but as my friends and I discussed, it had it's weird scenes and moments. The cutting was weird as well.

- Tr3mulant, on 07/19/2008, -1/+12Excellent movie. Loved every second. The joker stole every scene for sure. I'll surely never look at a pencil the same way again. With that said, it's not quite a masterpiece, but it's closer than anything you'll see this summer. I couldn't possibly imagine how Chris Nolan can top it in the inevitable sequel, much less how any other action/comic book movie could top it.

- culbeda, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Really, I thought he was rather weak as Batman in this one, but maybe it was just because he paled in comparison to The Joker. I also thought Maggie G. gave a lukewarm performance as well. But all that said, the film was worth it for Ledger's performance alone. Just.... wow.

- ripple123, on 07/19/2008, -14/+3Great movie, Incredibly meaningless statistic.
- btschul, on 07/19/2008, -2/+29The mall I was at had almost every one of their 15 theaters playing the dark knight, and they still sold out an hour before the movie started.
- TheAstronomer, on 07/19/2008, -7/+1for sure that is not true. There is no way that they would have that many copies of the movie.
- nwahs086, on 07/19/2008, -2/+9My theater also had 15 theaters of it playing, and it was sold out Thursday afternoon. You cannot underestimate the power of The Dark Knight.
- btschul, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I bought my tickets at noon on Thursday, and they had already sold out 4 of their largest theaters. They were expecting a huge crowd, so they ordered lots of copies of the movie, like I'm sure almost every other theater did (except the ones near you, apparently). Just because you live in some backwoods redneck town with 1 drive in theater doesn't mean I am lying.
- atdrago, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2cinemas don't need 15 copies of a movie to show it in 15 theaters. lots of the time for a big movie like this they'll interlock the movies, meaning they take the film coming out of one projector and feed it into another projector, letting two audiences view it at once. how that theater was able to do it for 15 different theaters (we only got 3 copies and had it showing in 5 theaters) is beyond me, but props to them. we also sold out about 3 hours before the showing.
- captainh, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3I used to work in projections at a movie theater. They are usually setup to feed from one projector to another. There were 24 theaters total, with several groups of 3 that could be linked together. So potentially we could get 4 prints to play 12 shows. I don't think that ever happened, but I know for Star Wars Episode 2 there were about 10 shows with only about 4-5 prints.
- TheAstronomer, on 07/19/2008, -7/+1for sure that is not true. There is no way that they would have that many copies of the movie.
- billmill, on 07/19/2008, -4/+48Pirate Bay searches up 1000x a second.
- rolf, on 07/19/2008, -0/+7On a side note, I'm sure the MPAA will still continue to whine about how piracy kills ticket sales. As opposed to crappy movies.
- artfiend77, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5I'd like to hear what Mr. Nolan thinks of piracy in about a weeks time after he gets the figures on how much the movie made.
"Piracy? You mean like with ships and boats and eye patches?"- Kristijan12, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2Or more like: "let them share it am not that greedy".
- Elranzer, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1Nolan is out to make money and that's his sole purpose for making this movie. I'm sure the last thing he wants is for you to download it without paying to see it in threatres. He is not a champion of the Pirate Bay just because loads of Diggers like him.
- blitz718, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5Regardless this movie shouldn't be pirated on the basis that the movie is outstanding.
- s3rgi0, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6I've already seen it once at the midnight showing. Going again on Saturday, and probably at least once more.
I'm also going to download it. - artfiend77, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Same here, once in a regular theatre, once on IMAX and I'll be downloading it as well.

- joel8x, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I would say it has a chance - the reason Titanic did so well was solely because of Leonardo DiCaprio. Girls were obsessed with him and went to see the movie multiple times. There were as many if not more teenage girls than dudes at the showing I went to last night. You know they are going strictly for Heath Ledger, who as the article points out is going to be the next James Dean. I would imagine that this movie, based on the fact that Ledger's performance is much more than just hype, will destroy all previous records.
Just my 2 ¢.- ViktorVaughn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I don't know that there is that much for the teenage girl demo in Heath Ledger's performance. The guy has a disfigured face, dirty clothes and greasy hair and is generally twitching and acting insane throughout the movie.
I'm not a female, but I just don't see how anyone would find that sexy or attractive. My girlfriend does seem to think that there are enough females that are fans or otherwise obsessed with Heath Ledger that they would want to go see the film to witness his final performance, but I guess you could say that about a lot of people. - btschul, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2He isn't going to be anything. i bet in three months it'll be a WAY lower, but probably a solid 8.2+ (judging from the excellent reviews)
8.0+ is excellent on the imdb scale, btw - jazzfunkblues, on 07/19/2008, -5/+5the law of averages will take hold. the people voting on opening day either haven't really seen the movie and are just giving it 10's, or are incapable of rational thought and are 8 years old, so it's the cooooolest thing ever made.
but, i can't wait to see it nonetheless.- Borramakot, on 07/19/2008, -0/+19No, I saw it last night. I would give it a ten for the same reason Bioshock was getting 10's. It was everything it was meant to be, and they could not realistically have done it better.
- blitz718, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Withhold judgement of the user reviews until you see the movie just like you suggest to the 8 year olds pal
- RyeBrye, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3As far as action movies go, it's one of the best ones I've ever seen. Time will tell how long it stays high - but I wouldn't be surprised if it were in the top 100.
- crowbar77, on 07/19/2008, -0/+7It will go down, only has 7,000 votes. No doubt it will stay in the top 100 though.

- toenexx, on 07/19/2008, -1/+52The Dark Knight is a masterpiece, can't wait to see it again in theaters.
- BradOFarrell, on 07/19/2008, -4/+35The Joker was awesome but it feels like the amazing arc of Harvey Dent isn't getting much attention. Dent was definitely a strong character--obviously he can't compete with an insane clown for charisma--but he stole every non-Joker scene he was in.
- dylantp20, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6I agree, Eckart isn't getting nearly enough credit for his roll, I think this movie had 2 of the strongest characters (joker/dent) I have ever seen in a single movie, I kept waiting to see what the joker would do next but at the same time I was so emotionally tied to dent I didn't want to see what I knew was coming next I just didn't want it to end up that way.
- pandawho1212, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2i didn't care much for 2face...weigh this: a psychotically sadistic clown or a man with a burnt face and a gun. don't get me wrong, dent's performance was great but it's really incomparable
- BradOFarrell, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4I'm talking about Dent, not Two Face. His performance as Harvey Dent, the District Attorney, which comprised a good deal of the scenes, was always excellent. They made him so heroic and badass. And, like dylantp20 said, you got so invested in him that the foreknowledge of his fate to become Two Face became more and more unsettling. They took a super villain origin story and turned it on it's head, making it a tragedy instead of a mere explanation of malice. Harvey Dent's character, and what he represented, was powerful. I believe in Harvey Dent.
- artfiend77, on 07/19/2008, -0/+12*****, in all of this we completely forgot about Batman!
- joel8x, on 07/19/2008, -2/+1Without Dent, the Joker's plan is not nearly as sick and twisted. But how come the Sandman got a whole movie last time to be a villain, and this time he has about 1 minute before getting bagged?
- hakkola, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2LOL, Sandman? Really?
Scarecrow.
In the previous movie he was just a secondary villain, and Batman didn't have any problems with him after the initial encounter, even Rachel was able to take him out in the first movie. - ViktorVaughn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Um, Scarecrow?

- lebatte, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9If you'll take a moment to learn from the past, movie tickets were in even higher demand during the great depression than before or after.
It's a relatively cheap last bastion of entertainment. - shakbhaji, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1This movie will single handedly bring the US out of recession with the number of people going to see it (multiple times).

- ReeferChiefer42, on 07/19/2008, -1/+78Yes, it really was that good. I personally feel it is the best superhero movie to date, one of the best action movies to date, Heath Ledger's greatest performance (R.I.P.), one of Christian Bale's best performances, and easily one of the best plots in a movie.
If you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and do so. To all the pirating comments: I pirate plenty, but some things are just worth paying $8.75 to see on a massive HD display.- Patrickdnj, on 07/19/2008, -1/+13$8.75!?!?!?! Where the f*** are you watching movies?
- darkphenox, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1WOW up here in Canada all the theatres around me in Waterloo have $9.25 price normally and matinée at $7.00
- dangerdooms, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2It's true. I live in Hamilton and just got got back from the late show, between two people it came to $17.25. Excellent movie btw.
- WhoDoneIt, on 07/19/2008, -0/+0Nine and a qwarter up here as well, says Toll Booth Willy in B.C.
- sonnybobiche, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1In edgewater, NJ the movie theater charges $10.75. A comparative bargain to New York at over $14.
- lostformat1125, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Not True.....Amc on 42nd charges 10.75 per ticket....if you go in the morning on fridays and weekends its 6 dollars.......imax is 15 dollars in lincoln square

http://www.megaplextheatres.com/information/theate ...- ReeferChiefer42, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1No, I don't go to a Megaplex theater but I do believe you are right on the ball about the Dolby Digital Cinema. I think many theaters finally realize that if their movies are going to cost people an arm and a leg, in these harsh economic times especially, they had better be the best available quality, especially considering everything is moving into HD now. If I can watch porn in HD, I better be watching Christian Bale in HD, completely separate of course ; )
- BobScratchit, on 07/19/2008, -3/+1$6.50 for me. Matinee prices.

- artfiend77, on 07/19/2008, -3/+1ESPECIALLY you
- bjs3171, on 07/19/2008, -1/+23really a fantastic movie. on a level all it's own compared to other comic book movies. this was really more of a crime saga like good fellas or the departed, just using Batman as a vehicle. Yes, Heath Ledger stole the show. He is every bit as brilliant as he looks in the trailers, really embodying the role to a frightening degree. He was both funny, and scary as hell. but the entire cast was perfect as well. Especially since Maggie joined. And serious props to Eckhart for his transition.
My only gripe was why that police truck went down into that tunnel, instead of just driving down the wrong side of the upper road. And that Bat Cycle would be about as maneuverable as an ocean liner in a bath tub. But whatever, it was still ***** badass.
This movie, in every way, lived up to expectations and my hopes, and that almost never happens. Seriously one the best films ever made.- WhoDoneIt, on 07/19/2008, -6/+0My only gripe is that your a *****-tard spoiling it for others who have yet to see it yet.

- yohnstoppable, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I agree on the crime drama comment. Personally, it reminded me a lot of the movie Heat.
- hannahruth0, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I know! I thought the same exact thing about the tunnel scene....

- Tyrghast, on 07/19/2008, -7/+2With all the awesome super hero stuff out right now, I'm trying to decide who is better, so help me out digg: Batman or Captain Hammer? If you're curious as to who Cpt. Hammer is, and need to do research for the comparison: http://www.drhorrible.com/index.html
- VacantThoughts, on 07/19/2008, -1/+8If you have to explain who the guy you are putting up against batman is, the winner is obviously going to be Batman.
- hurricanewane, on 07/19/2008, -3/+23Movie records are ridiculous...they never adjust them for inflation. 1990 dollars are not the same at 2000 dollars and especially not 2008 dollars.
- FyUoCuK, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3You would have a relevant point but this article quotes a number of tickets, not a dollar amount.
- Llanowar, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Here you go, adjusted for inflation.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
- Jusscurio, on 07/19/2008, -2/+410 tickets per second...or 12.
- limbikity, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1"Online, "The Dark Knight," which also stars Christian Bale as Batman as well as Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, was selling an average of about 12 tickets per second on the movie-ticket site Fandango.com."
- bemyokono, on 07/19/2008, -1/+55woah woah woah? this is a batman movie?

- Ransack, on 07/19/2008, -7/+2the amount of hype for this movie is unbelievable... unless its the greatest superhero ever made it will disappoint.
- robotfuel, on 07/19/2008, -0/+13It is.
- mchisari, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6
It is. It did not disappoint.
After three years of hype, viral videos leaked footage, interviews (and I followed all of it), it did not disappoint.- DuffyDirect, on 07/19/2008, -2/+1 (and I followed all of it)
yoda: and that is why you fail.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/19/2008, -2/+1 (and I followed all of it)
- DeadeyeDick, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I don't know about greatest ever, but AT LEAST worth all the hype. The movie was actually a lot better than I thought, and I had high expectations.
- ryrysofly, on 07/19/2008, -0/+8I went to go see this at midnight on thursday and I have never seen a line so long for a movie in my entire life. The line was wrapped around the entire theater and completely blew me away. It was an A-MAZING movie and completely lived up to the hype and the Joker stole the show!
- thatsmyaibo, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4I did marketing for the movie and got to see it early....was soooo tough not to talk about it with friends. I went again with them at midnight last night though...phenomenal.
- Malarie, on 07/19/2008, -0/+15Saw it tonight, and I really liked it. Not my favorite movie of all time but pretty close, but this joker is definitely my favorite vilain in a movie. The Joker is on par with Darth Vader in my own personal tastes. I was sad after the movie because I wont have the chance to see Heah Ledger rise to the top without seeing an interview of him about hs performance....
There is only one thing that annoys me a little in the movie though: Batman's voice!- kashk5, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2I agree, especially near the end where he sounds more out of breath than actually menacing.
- pandawho1212, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5yeah his voice really drew away from the seriousness but i understand it's just an identity issue but.....god damn he sounded like Assy McGee
- ky02121, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I thought I was the only one. I hated Bale voice in this film.
- Falsey, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Made me think that this would be fitting.
http://www.filmjunk.com/2007/09/17/christian-bale- ... - rrc589, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I'm not a big fan of the voice either. The only excuse I can think of is that they are using it is because they think it helps promote this more "realistic" take on Batman.
For example, take the fact that Harvey Dent knows Bruce Wayne's voice. When Bruce talks to Dent as Batman, he uses that ridiculous over the top voice to disguise who he is.
But then you think, "Well, wouldn't Dent figure out who he is anyway by recognizing the bottom half of his face?"
I have no answer to that, and that's why I think the voice could have been done without.
- TheDuckHat, on 07/19/2008, -2/+2Title says 10, article says 12?

- thebuggalo, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1that is no excuse... you need to change the article headline then. it's unprofessional.

- aflury, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Maybe no one wants to watch a *****-quality bootleg.
- cheekybastard, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Exactly, so how bout a screener?
