- stjoad, on 02/21/2009, -3/+129Still going 7 months later?
- sautegod, on 02/21/2009, -10/+132I'd go see it again
- angers, on 02/21/2009, -4/+123I'm sure your sister would disagree. :P
- inactive, on 02/21/2009, -6/+92Congratulations!!! As someone else said on Digg, " I guess this is what happens when all aspects of a film from the marketing to the soundtrack to the overall quality of the film is first class".
- buddamus, on 02/21/2009, -4/+88See, I told you piracy was killing movie revenue
- newman328, on 02/21/2009, -10/+72It's not often the biggest movie moneymaker of the year is also one of the best, but I guess we have an exception.
- inactive, on 02/21/2009, -1/+55Considering it wasn't nominated, I'd say that is a pretty good bet.
- inactive, on 02/21/2009, -2/+48How about adjusting old movies for not having 500 cable channels, many in HD to compete with? Or it being released on DVD just 4 months later. Or simply not having nearly as much competition for people's entertainment budget as movies did in the past?
- BMAnderson, on 02/21/2009, -0/+44i agree that his sister would disagree
- Cabe6403, on 02/21/2009, -19/+62"Nipping at titanic's heels" - What? $800,000,000 short of that. The Dark Knight still needs to nearly double its grossing to surpass Titanic and there are still 2 other films higher grossing, TLotR: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man's chest.
This film is good but it's so so overhyped. - quigles3000, on 02/21/2009, -0/+37It was re-released on Imax at the end of January.
- superterrorizer, on 02/21/2009, -0/+36Exactly, it is funny because TDK is one of the most pirated movies, but people will pay to see a good movie on a big screen if it's worth it.
- Shogi, on 02/21/2009, -0/+36You're both wrong.

- hoodedrobin, on 02/21/2009, -1/+23Christian Bale: "RAWR RAWR RAWR..."
Heath Ledger: "What the ***** did you just say?" - inactive, on 02/21/2009, -6/+27pfft big deal, let me know when it gets over 9000.
- StrangeFamous, on 02/21/2009, -0/+21Well, you certainly mangled that up...
- inactive, on 02/21/2009, -2/+18How popular a movie is doesn't determine how good a movie is.
- absentmindedjwc, on 02/21/2009, -0/+15oh it is, the numbers are just lying
/sarcasm - absentmindedjwc, on 02/21/2009, -7/+20last time I checked, 1 billion is over 9 thousand
- SimmaDownNow, on 02/21/2009, -3/+14This is what got me into the theater, twice, to see this movie. The hype surrounding Heath Ledger's performance; especially having seen Brokeback Mountain and wondering how he could go from there [BM] to being a convincing threat to one of the all time great super-heroes/detectives. Then I told my friends, many of whom detest theses sorts of movies, you have to see Ledger's performance. Then they saw the movie and told their friends and so on and so on.
- LordVance, on 02/21/2009, -2/+13Because the success of a single motion picture (which happens to be the last performance of an actor beloved by many) is certainly an indication of good times for the industry as a whole.
Note, I'm not saying copyright infringement is destroying new popular movies - only that this one serves as a very, very poor example to use as a counter-argument. They need to find new ways to monetize their industry; they could learn a lot from Valve's Steam. - vspazv, on 02/21/2009, -1/+12That's domestic only.
- fxu1989, on 02/21/2009, -2/+13Has The Dark Knight's profits been adjusted to ticket price inflation?
If not... then can it really be compared to Titanic's $1 billion?
This is the latest list adjusted to ticket price inflation.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm - DevSingh1359, on 02/21/2009, -1/+12I'd have to agree with you here. The Dark Knight was an extraordinary film for a comic book movie...but as a hardcore Batman fan who's been collecting graphic novels ever since I was 10, I have to say I liked Batman Begins much more. It just felt more like the comic book Batman I'd been waiting to see portrayed correctly. His suit was perfect and more in line with the comic book Batman than any of the previous suits were (and even the new suit in TDK)...it may have been huge and bulky, but that's what gave it that animalistic vibe that made Batman seem almost gargoyle-like. And even the big, flowing cape was better...I'm not really sure why they shortened it for TDK.

That's the Batman I was waiting to see. And Bale's Batman voice in BB was perfect in comparison to the half-Clint Eastwood half-grizzly bear voice he used in TDK. In fact, Bale's performance overall was much better in BB. His Bruce Wayne was much more charismatic...it felt like he didn't really put much into the role for TDK. If it wasn't for the Nolan brothers' excellent story telling and Heath's Joker the movie would've been pretty bad. The suit, the voice, the Batcave, Wayne Manor, Arkham, hell even the bats that were such a huge part of the theme for first movie...all of that was missing from TDK and made it seem less like a Batman film for me. In fact, it felt more like a crime drama with Batman in it than an actual Batman movie.
Don't get me wrong though...TDK is still one of my favorite movies of all time. - WraTH017, on 02/21/2009, -0/+10Just ***** movies.
You know, the ones were you go and get cheated out of your hard earned cash because the trailer looked good?
The movie studios want to go back to the age before the internet, when movie reviews were not very accessible and would often come a bit too late and a bit too biased. I dare say that the quick access to information does more damage to the movie studios than pirating. It's much more difficult for them to push their low quality movies when you don't have to wait for the reviews on the Sunday paper.
So, ***** em. If they make good quality movies, we'll gladly pay to see them! - inactive, on 02/21/2009, -5/+14Are you one of those tools who says that about a movie simply because it's popular, making it "cool" to say that it's overrated? Really, it's not clever at all - take any movie, and you're going to find some ***** who's convinced that it's the most overrated piece of ***** ever. Hell, I'm sure you could find a group of naysayers for Citizen Kane, if you tried (not counting William Randolph Hearst, obviously).

It's still 842.8 million dollars behind. Titanic won in the box office no matter how you spin it. - inactive, on 02/21/2009, -0/+9Not uncommon. Many movies have drawn out release dates in foreign markets.
