- masterjjx, on 07/21/2008, -4/+332don't read if you didn't watch the movie yet alot spoilers on that list
- WhiskeyWrites, on 07/22/2008, -5/+193Good list, though I disagree with one thing: the length. Certainly not every movie needs to be 2+ hours, but I do like the trend towards longer films where there can be more character or plot development.
- 12340987, on 07/22/2008, -9/+163the longer the movie the more you get for the money.
and
#6 Bale's bat-voice. Tends to withdraw you from the scene when he talks like that. - hakkola, on 07/21/2008, -15/+151Spoiler
I'm not convinced that two-face dies.
Nolan wouldn't kill off a character like two-face, he's been taking influences from some of the better Batman graphic novels, I think it is more likely that Gordon helped to fake Dent's death, and is going to try to rehabilitate him, and Wayne, his friend will try to have his face surgically repaired. Similar to the story line in The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller.
His fall wasn't from much higher than the mob boss who had his legs broken. Batman survives the same fall and we don't see a coffin at the end of the movie.
If there's a third movie I would be surprised if Two-face didn't return, he'll probably be there as a secondary villain again. - NextLust, on 07/22/2008, -8/+93SPOILER**
Two Face is not dead in the same way Raz Al Ghul is not dead. They're deaths are never confirmed or shown. Two Face falling? Please, the guy would be knocked out or worst in a light coma.
Gordon just let the city believe he was dead and that Batman was now the enemy to keep Harvey's persona alive. If people saw him in his current unstable state they would lose the hope in which he embodied.
END SPOILER**
I am now just really interested in what Nolan and Co. have up their sleeves for the inevitable third chapter. - tallguyg, on 07/22/2008, -0/+68Did anyone else notice in the party scene that Bruce dumps his champagne glass when hes on the balcony and a few minutes later the Joker does the same exact thing and then (semi humorously) drinks out of the empty glass. Did anyone else see subtle parallelisms between Batman and the Joker or am I just reading too much into it?
- Norseman, on 07/22/2008, -1/+69"I just couldn’t get into her on any level."
- triferlinks, on 07/22/2008, -1/+61Its pretty enjoyable seeing that Nolan can get away with two villains without them canceling each other out.
- dngermouse, on 07/22/2008, -4/+61semi-spoiler**
What's with Batman still using such a harsh tone of voice to Lucius Fox when he already knows Bruce is Batman?
And what was with that scene where Batman jumped off the ledge and saved Rachel and fell onto the taxi and she was completely fine?
minor gripes, AWESOME movie, the real highlight of this years film releases. Too bad everything else was sub-par (Iron man made me a little happy and wanted was pretty cool) - SmittyCommaThe, on 07/22/2008, -0/+56*Spoiler*
Seemed very deliberate. I had seen the trailer so often that I was surprised when both Wayne and Joker say "Where is Harvey Dent?" when they each make their entrances. Wayne comes in with girls, Joker with goons. One is there to lift up Dent's image, one to break it down. One of the most deliberate duality scenes of the film. - ansatsu29, on 07/22/2008, -3/+56**spoilers**
I liked the scene when Batman did the bashing of Joker's face on the table while he was in the interrogation room. Really love it as well as Joker's reaction to that.
Another scene that I liked is when Joker dressed up a nurse then blows up the hospital with a cellphone detonator. That scene is menacingly fun and terrifying at the same time. Good work for Heath.
Joker's most brilliant lines:
"You complete me"
"Why so serious"
"This city needs a better class of criminals"
"You're just a freak like me"
Agreed with the review about Rachel Dawes. I'm happy she's dead too. I'd better have Catwoman in the movie than her. - samyoungguitar, on 07/22/2008, -69/+121These lists suck. ***** this *****. ***** these lame ass lists. Check your inflated ego and pseudo-intellect ***** at the door. These lists are ***** lame.
- tbranham, on 07/22/2008, -1/+47You missed: "How about a magic trick?"
- blahtastic, on 07/22/2008, -0/+44I didn't like it either, but I got over it by telling myself that's his secret identity voice. If he wears a mask with bat ears on it to hide his face, he can talk like a chainsaw to hide his voice too. Equally ridiculous.
- stickman0287, on 07/22/2008, -2/+45no way he's dead. right after Two-Face and batman fall, the camera focuses on his coin, which lands with the good head up.
Subtle, but made me solidly believe that he's not dead. - macwac, on 07/22/2008, -8/+47*spoiler****
I have to disagree with the list on one point. Two face.. i think they went way too far on the animation of his face. What is great with the movie is its realism - they don't go overboard with animation and gadgets (the gadgets are somewhat plausible). However two face was just way over the top.. it looked like he came out of 'The Mummy' or 'Terminator'. If they kept his face with make-up to a level of a second or third degree burn it would make sense.. but his flesh wound was 6th degree where his eye ball was nearly falling out and his jaw muscle the only thing left, yet he could still see and move his jaw without any pain or infection. That was the only thing that was negative. The rest of the movie was great. - MrFluffZ, on 07/22/2008, -0/+35**spoiler**
Oh and when he went to Harvey's hospital room and sat down.
"...Hi..." - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -0/+34Oh man, I thought that just meant that Two-Face was going to end up not killing Gordon's son.
Your interpretation sounds good though. - akohut, on 07/22/2008, -3/+37It's Batman, dude. It's a guy that dresses up like a bat and fights crime. Does that sound realistic to you?
- cvindustries, on 07/22/2008, -0/+31They tried it in a more restrained way. They said it was too realistic, and it would have had trouble getting a PG-13 rating. The over-the-top made it less distrubing, so it was a concession they had to make (the financiers of the film required a PG-13 rating).
- bryantee, on 07/22/2008, -1/+32Too long? If a movie is cut back for the sake of making it shorter, and scenes and story-lines are removed, I am completely against it. Reminds me of singles. 'It's got to be 2:30 for anyone to listen to it on the radio' says the record producer. Bite me.
- soupdawg30, on 07/22/2008, -2/+33I actually like longer movies as long as they do not feel drug out.
- brianmcuasito, on 07/22/2008, -0/+30Its a little twisted... but i like that pencil trick.. also didn't know what to think about Tiny Lister in that small roll of his ( the big guy who tossed out the detonator towards the end)... i totally thought someone would pull the trigger and really end up blowing themselves up.. and for all of those who seem to want to talk sh** on the guy who posted this.. you didnt have to read it you know and you certainly didn't have to respond.. people like you discourage others and really give other diggers a bad name..
- MosX, on 07/22/2008, -2/+32I really want to know how you thought this list would exist without spoilers. Seriously.
- Tyrghast, on 07/22/2008, -1/+301. That was a weak-ass fall, two or three stories, it shouldn't have killed him.
2. He's Two-Face, a classic Batman villain, if he want's he can say "***** infection, I still got some ***** I want to do." - cerealjynx, on 07/22/2008, -4/+32I didn't like how growly Batman was.
Yeah I know why they did it, and it's suposed to be like that, but it didn't click with me.
Very minor gripe overshadowed by how good the movie was. - Nollie2, on 07/22/2008, -9/+35Wish I read your comment before I clicked...
- magoblygoo, on 07/22/2008, -0/+25I know this is a moot point to make but, did anyone pick up on the mannerisms of the joker? the constant fidgeting, always moving his tongue (I assume to run it across the scars in his mouth), and even the way his eyes always moved or how he walked? Even really good actors with fall out of character during films. I didn't catch one flaw. hell, at the end of the bank robbery i couldn't wait to see him pop up on the screen. I really like the way everything was played out.
by far though my favorite seen was watching the joker walk out of the hospital and press the button over and over in bewilderment....absolutely brilliant. - dpdawson, on 07/22/2008, -3/+28Only two major dislikes for me:
1) The bat-voice.
2) The first act seemed rushed. I have a feeling there is an amazing three-hour cut somewhere which the studio forced Nolan to cut down so they could squeeze in one more showing per day. - DeathfireD, on 07/22/2008, -1/+25Are you sure it was computer enhanced? It sounded like he was just using a deep voice. Personally I think it sounds really corny when he talks like that though.
- KingBroseph, on 07/22/2008, -0/+24Couple things i noticed that no one has mentioned.
when Batman saves rachel out the window at the party Joker is still up at that party...no one tried to stop him?
Secondly, when Dent kills the driver of the mob boss' car and it flips...he's just totally fine and that makes sense to shoot someone while they're driving? - kinseyincanada, on 07/22/2008, -2/+26this movie still was unbelievably bad ass.
- reuscel, on 07/22/2008, -1/+23This movie could have been 5 hours long, and I still would have loved it.
- noblepenguin, on 07/22/2008, -0/+22drinking that shot must have really ***** hurt.
- repoulin, on 07/22/2008, -11/+32Number 1 thing I hated about the movie was BatMan's voice! It was too much. I get it is suppose to represent the darker side of Bruce Wayne and help disguise his voice, but it came off as annoying to me. (O yah and the chick was ugly - spider man has that negitive too though).
- riggs32, on 07/22/2008, -1/+21i did not mind the length of the movie at all. I actually wish more movies were similar in length to this, as it allows you to get more involved with a more complex plot. In so many movies i go to with my friends im the guy who leans over and predicts whats going to happen 10 minutes before it does. With this movie i had no idea what was going to happen next and i loved it.
- Jrr6415sun, on 07/22/2008, -1/+20It was computer enhanced.. I thought it was very distracting and annoying. It was too raspy.
- Memitim, on 07/22/2008, -0/+19Yeah, I thought that was kind of odd how they jumped out of the window and then there was an immediate segue to the police station despite the Joker continuing to chill out at Bruce's party. He came for Dent so wouldn't having Batman out of the picture for a while have been a most convenient time to crack some skulls and find Dent?
As for Two-Face, I just had to suspend all disbelief completely. Dude barely had enough connective tissue left in his face to constitute an actual face and yet appears to suffer no additional damage despite the excessive forces that he kept applying to his body. Hell, just sitting up in the hospital bed should have floored him in that condition, nevertheless flipping a car. - jenel, on 07/22/2008, -4/+22This is getting ridiculous. In Europe the movie isn't out yet, and in the few days that have passed since the US premiere, the Internets are filled with spoilers. I think I'll gett of the Net until Friday. :(
- DeathfireD, on 07/22/2008, -1/+19*SPOILER*
Like usaf1984 said, the funeral was for dent's image as the white knight that helped clean the city of it's criminals in a legal way unlike Batman. Batman decided to play the bad guy in the end in order to keep Dent's bad deeds as Two Face a secret from the general public.
Is he really dead? It's still unclear. Somehow I have to agree that the chances of him dieing from the fall are slim. When I first saw the scene it looked like he was just knocked out. So I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in a future Batman movie. - iMyst, on 07/22/2008, -0/+18Just like an actor Bruce stays in character whenever he is in costume. It's like Christian Bale's comments on Heath Ledger on and off screen. Once the make-up was on he _was_ the Joker, and once it was off he was a fun guy.
And yeah, it's assumed the Batsuit has some Powerizer (google it) type leg device. - Jrr6415sun, on 07/22/2008, -1/+19It says warning: spoilers right before the list.. also it's 10 things he liked about the movie.. how can there not be spoilers in that???
- dn11, on 07/22/2008, -2/+19possible spoilers
things I liked:
-Heath Ledger - the ***** man. Horrific and hilarious at the same time (how?). Everyone in my theater was giggling every time he was on the screen out of sure amazement/wonder/awe/horror/nervousness because you had no idea what he was going to do next
-Awesome stunts that look real instead of CGI
-Scene when big ass convict dude "does the right thing"
-Final scenes pays off - great final line by Gary Oldman
things I didn't like:
-Christian Bales ridiculous voice as batman - sounds totally forced and border line comical
-Stupid subplot with the all seeing spy network computer thingy
-editing could be tighter. could have been 10-15 shorter and it would probably be a better movie
-I still can't convince myself that Maggie G is "hot". She might be a good actress (better than Katie Holmes), she might have a strange kind of attractiveness but she isn't the knock out babe everyone in the movie is pretending she is. - MOJIRA, on 07/22/2008, -0/+17Epic movies need epic lengths. Not always true, but usually is.
- akohut, on 07/22/2008, -11/+28I lost interest with the phrase "real me in." Holy *****, learn to correctly use words.
I also don't give a ***** about what some random ***** liked and didn't like about a movie. - kidathinnes, on 07/22/2008, -0/+17I only really agree with one of those negatives. Rachel Dawes. Didn't like her from the beginning, glad she was blown up.
Who really knows what is going to happen. Obviously Ledger won't be back, so will it be a new joker? Did Two Face die? I think so. Most likely the next Batman will feature one or two new villains. It was so sad leaving the film and realizing that is the last time we will see that Joker. Ledger was by far my favorite superhero villain ever. He does deserve at least a nomination for his role. Will he win, who knows. - palmy523, on 07/22/2008, -1/+17He had his seat belt on.
- VictoryCube, on 07/22/2008, -1/+17When Bruce is in the batsuit his voice is altered by a voice modulator. Hence why he talks that way to fox.
- Jholder112233, on 07/22/2008, -0/+15Film isn't out in the UK yet or trust me I would have seen it...
- keithnoir, on 07/22/2008, -0/+14another reason batman took that blame was because the criminals were realizing batman had a code. With a few dirty cops dead by the hands of batman the criminals now think batman mite have broken his code, bring fear back into gothams scum.
