- Tinu, on 01/30/2008, -2/+13I've read so much about the movie that I'm thinking about just pretending I saw it. lol. seriously though, what's this controversy about the tape? It's the one thing I don't get.
- Picaroon, on 01/30/2008, -0/+28If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, it's that the characters call the video a tape and parts of it have been recorded over so in the movie there are "flashbacks" in the form of stuff that wasn't recorded over. However, in the opening credits it's called a DoD SD card (not a "tape," and an SD card wouldn't have anything recorded over anything else). I figure that the DoD put it on a card, but that's just me.
- Tinu, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1Okay that makes the most sense out of all that I've read. Cuz I kept seing that oh, a tape wouldn't last that long, and then people kept saying, no, the watermark says it's a card. I'll probably still see it once I forget a bit but that's the one thing that never made sense in reading stuff.
- ardit33, on 01/30/2008, -36/+2Don't believe the hype!! This movie was aweful. Just like a blairwitch, but with a monster in manhatan. It is cheezy: You basically are following around the typical deuchbag trying to save his girl, and ends up getting all his friends killed.
I thought the tape thing, would just be the intro, but no, it is the whole frickin movie. All this hype in digg, seems just well planted marketing by the movie studio. It is hard to trust this site anymore, where it is hard to distinguish between real peopl'se recommandation and online hype marketing.- weeman43302, on 01/30/2008, -0/+11Dude the flashbacks were there for a reason. They help build the story of the two of them.
- nospinhere, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5ardit, with all this "hype" from digg you would have to be an idiot not to know that the whole film was just the "tape thing."
- dogslayeggs, on 01/30/2008, -1/+16Are you seriously comparing Cloverfield to Blair Witch? *****! Just because they both have some minimal similarities in camera style? Moron, this movie was amazing, great character introduction, amazing realism... something very new! Just because it isnt the typical hollywood ***** we see these days people knock it... Too sad.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+6Hell ya, I loved Cloverfield, best movie i seen. The emotion, suspense, action and drama were great. It was actually like i was watching it happen. Poor Hud. Although Rob did get everyone killed for a chick. Someday i am gonna be able to say, baby i love you so much, i would risk all my friends lives during a monster attack on the city just to spend 14 more minutes together before we both get killed.
But until that happens ill be saying, That's a Shame! (seinfeld) - iJessicaRabbit, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Agreed. What dogslayegg3 said
Also... this article kind of sucks - t0ken, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1You liked the movie, ergo according to ardit's line of thinking you MUST be getting paid by the movie studio because really, why else would someone like something, right?

- TrevorBelmont, on 01/30/2008, -0/+43The thing about the tape is that through the whole movie the monster keeps yelling "Give me the tape!" and people are all like "Holy *****, what tape? We'd totally give it to you if we knew what you were talking about!" and the monster just kept saying "I want that tape!" and people kept trying to give him tapes but he'd just eat them. This one guy tried to give him a "Prince: Greatest Hits" tape and he was just like MUNCH "Give me the tape!" so this other guy was like, "Maybe it's Scotch tape he wants or some *****..." MUNCH no good. Before you can even find out what this tape is that the monster wants he gets cancer and has to go back to the ocean for chemo. You never find out what happens but that monster was a real fighter so I like to think he ended up ok.
- arjie, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5Wow, this description brought me flashbacks of that "I'm the Juggernaut bitch" video.
- pjpark, on 01/30/2008, -1/+2* SPOILER *
The big mistery of the film is not that there is a monster that is tearing up NY city, but where it came from and why it is so hard to destroy. The answer to this question is obvious if you watch "The Waterhorse: Legend of the Deep". During world war 2, a small boy rescues a "Waterhorse" egg that hatches and turns out to be the Loch Ness Monster (the boy names it Crusoe). The military was unable to destroy Crusoe before it escaped out into the open sea. Crusoe mutated as a result of the attacks and laid another egg which is picked up by another small boy at the end of the movie. So the Cloverfield monster is actually Crusoe II, the offspring of the Loch Ness Monster.

- chris9902, on 01/30/2008, -10/+22The trailer was a spoiler (seriously it's not exactly The Godfather). A monster attacks New York and some whinny bitch kids run around taping it.
- rossmills, on 01/30/2008, -4/+5I was talking about the reference to the A-Bomb
- KloroFormd, on 01/30/2008, -2/+1Thanks for spoiling it.
- cyberwiz01, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1I dont think it was an A-Bomb in the movie. There were at least two flashes of fire, and with an A-Bomb, there would be only one.
- designerutah, on 01/30/2008, -0/+0Actually, one of the signatures of an atomic bomb is the so called double-flash.
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_Incident
Not that I think that the bomb used in Cloverfield was nuclear.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -5/+1you are a fag. I bet you would wet yourself if that happened to you.

- camyden, on 01/30/2008, -5/+4hmmmm so a trivia based online treasure hunt related to the movie..... could be fun, if I had seen the movie.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -4/+6you get buried for not seeing the best movie of 2008, at least in its genre. People complain about the cam, i loved it, i was drawn into the movie and felt like i was watching something real, thats the first time i felt that at a theater. People who get sick don't realize that if you eat theater nachos, pizza, popcorn and horndogs you will get sick. I can't stand people who have a meal at the damn theater, and those horrible smells and noises. Who would even pay the prices, at the most i would ever have is candy and a drink that i snuck in, at least i have the courtesy of not making smells and noises when people pay 9 bucks to see a movie.
- WallnutBoy, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4You get buried for stating Cloverfield as 'the best movie of 2008' in the month of JANUARY. -_-
Seriously, I loved the film but NEVER call it the best film of 2008... "First Decent Film of 2008", maybe.

- Tinu, on 01/30/2008, -2/+1Did you mean the password to the site that was linked from the story? I didn't get it either. But then I didn't try to figure it out so I guess I"m the wrong person to ask.

- statikuz, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Actually not creepy at all - I could have sworn the first time I watched it there was some bizarre noise in the background. Definitely time to go to bed.

...It wasn't an A-bomb. Is this some fan thing?- Picaroon, on 01/30/2008, -4/+1How do you know? I mean, the last thing I saw was collapsing debris. Why couldn't that be from an atomic device?
- Rndm_Tngnt, on 01/30/2008, -0/+16Because there was a digital recording near the epicenter of the blast and it was salvageable.
- modad, on 01/30/2008, -0/+15Nuclear weapons create an electromagnetic pulse, meaning that the camera and tape would not have been salvageable, regardless of debris. So, the explosion was most likely non-nuclear.
- cjh24, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3There seems to be some sort of misconception about the effects of EMPs, most electronics are fairly immune to them, and magnetic tape would probably not see any damage (it is not usually metallic).
- Sharky35, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c0e_1179984666
Radiation affects video tape. No EMP NEEDED!
- Sharky35, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c0e_1179984666
- carpespasm, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2even still, if the tape had a NUKE dropped on it, it's a pretty safe bet that it didn't come out working.
- cjh24, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3There seems to be some sort of misconception about the effects of EMPs, most electronics are fairly immune to them, and magnetic tape would probably not see any damage (it is not usually metallic).
- Sharky35, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2Damnit, I saw the friggin movie.
It was no damned atomic blast.
They air force carpet bombed the entire area.
When they are under the bridge you can hear the explosions getting closer and closer
In the movie... an army dude say's that they are going to carpet bomb the entire area.
And say what you want about EMP.... at best the tape would have been scarred by radiation.
There is a reason the clean-up footage of Chernobyl looks like it's from 1932. The radioactivity effected the magnetic tape. No EMP needed.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+10It was firebombs, the army guy said they would firebomb the city. Did everyone miss that detail? Go watch it again ppl.
- bigsteve, on 01/30/2008, -3/+1A-bomb was a metaphor for the monster causing dramatic destruction but not wiping the city clean like a parking lot.
- Picaroon, on 01/30/2008, -4/+1How do you know? I mean, the last thing I saw was collapsing debris. Why couldn't that be from an atomic device?

- pu-z, on 01/30/2008, -4/+11It wasn't a tape, but an SD card.
- Danelope, on 01/30/2008, -1/+12The opening card of the film says:
DOCUMENT #USGX-8810-B467
DIGITAL SD CARD
MULTIPLE SIGHTINGS OF CASE DESIGNATE
"CLOVERFIELD"
It's a government document and "DIGITAL SD CARD" refers to the medium by which this document has been delivered. It doesn't say it was FOUND on said medium.
If every piece of information in the movie indicates it's being recorded on a tape, I'd say it's pretty obvioulsy a tape.- jon02129, on 01/30/2008, -2/+3So someone found the camera, salvaged the tape, transfered all footage onto a computer, copied it to an SD card, then delivered it to a government official?
And what about any specimens found, will they be labeled as "TRUCK", because they were delivered by truck?- modad, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5"So someone found the camera, salvaged the tape, transfered all footage onto a computer, copied it to an SD card, then delivered it to a government official?"
Yes. They may have also done some file conversion or compressing on the computer too before they put it on an SD card.
Knowing government bureaucratic labeling systems I would not be surprised if transportation method "TRUCK" would be used in the situation you've described.
- modad, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5"So someone found the camera, salvaged the tape, transfered all footage onto a computer, copied it to an SD card, then delivered it to a government official?"
- Sabretou, on 01/30/2008, -2/+3Why would the government official watching the delivered video on SD Card want to be reminded that he is watching it off an SD Card?
- carpespasm, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2to allow for a trail to track any leaks to the media by?
- Sharky35, on 01/30/2008, -1/+2So some dumbass would make a post like yours on Digg.
- jon02129, on 01/30/2008, -2/+3So someone found the camera, salvaged the tape, transfered all footage onto a computer, copied it to an SD card, then delivered it to a government official?
- jon02129, on 01/30/2008, -2/+2True. And it must have been one big SD card. SDHC perhaps?
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3No 1-4gigs will easily handle SD video for 1h 20min
- dodger2020, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4It was a tape. When Rob first sees Hud filming with his camera at the party he asks him what tape he was using. It went something close to, "What tape are you using? Are you using the tape that was already in the camera?" because it was the tape of him and Beth.

- Wade, on 01/30/2008, -2/+2Actually, the third sentence is indeed considered, in my own opinion, false. I propose that it was in fact the oil rig exploding that caused the Statue of Liberty's head to come flying out of nowhere as it states in the Alternate Reality Game (to which this site bears no resemblance.
- llamagorama, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6Except the head has deep claw gouges in it and the very poster of the movie has Liberty with three giant slashes in her, more than implying it was the monster that did it.
- Wade, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I officially hate the Cloverfield ARG. But I am glad that explosions never have debris that may actually cause this, thankfully we all got a good look at the Cloverfield monsters claws. Posters are canon, right?

On a side note, this whole site, idea and discussion is "A numba 1" lame.- HarbingerZero, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1Agreed, poorly written content and weak linking to any substantial data that is inferred to throughout the entry.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+61. is false, it was firebombs, 2. Pure madeup fan fiction there is no name for the monster. 3. sentence in that entire post that is a fact
- sybaritic, on 01/30/2008, -2/+3The buildup towards this movie was fantastic, up to and including the mere hints of footage in trailers and the lack of even a definitive name for a time even though some previews were out. So if any sort of game can tie that into the notion of how its shot towards a bend of a realism in terms of direction, sounds like an awesome deal to me.
- orph3us, on 01/30/2008, -9/+2This movie was very dissapointing... To have to find everything out from websites and creating an online world of "Cloverfield" like its Lost is all fine, but at least Lost explains most everything in the series. Unless they release a seond Cloverfield in a couple months, the movie kinda sucked. Too much goes unexplained
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3i see u have no imagnination, also these websites and crap are all fan fiction and not offical.
- below413, on 01/30/2008, -1/+7****SPOILER WARNING****
What exactly went unexplained? Oil platform in the ocean digs into monster's house, monster takes out revenge on Manhattan, military goes after the monster, people run around screaming and getting stepped on, little creatures fall off the big monster (could be some sort of relationship similar to remora on sharks), little creatures bite people and then said people 'splode all over everyone (ok that part's kinda weird), kid's find and rescue friend, military is forced to bomb the area with large bombs in an effort to stop the creature, kid's get in a helicopter that proceeds to crash, then they are caught in the bombs and die, tape is recovered later and sent to the DoD for investigation. Really the only thing that goes unexplained is why people burst open after the little guys bite them...
Oh, and since when does Lost explain ANYTHING? - TrevorBelmont, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4They explained everything that I needed. Big monster comes outta nowhere and kills ***** EVERYTHING!
- estacado, on 01/30/2008, -3/+8Can we have enough of Cloverfield stories, please. It is soo 2 weeks ago.
- FunkyPits, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5I actually had a great time at this movie and thought it was pretty good. I was a little annoyed by the lack of explanations in the end, but it didn't take that much away from it. Did anyone who saw it stay for after the credits and see the splash in the harbor by Coney Island?
- FunkyChicken, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6The splash is BEFORE the credits.
- Sabretou, on 01/30/2008, -3/+6This is obviously fan-made, there are several things that are plain *****. WTF is the official Cloverfield poster doing in an ARG, why is it called a "tape" instead of the SD card, and how did it survive an A-Bomb? Also the military-esque language used is horrible immature to be used in any ARG, and the two sites at the bottom mention the "movie" explicitly - which is impossible in an ARG. Bad attempt, *****.
- jedinate, on 01/30/2008, -1/+1Several people have commented that it is fan-made as if to imply that the poster claims it is official.
Reread this
"A new social trivia game - State/federal Detective finds tape, reports on it. Look at the Cloverfield film as a crime scene, with additional clues and links to trivia at the end, with speculation/reporting about part two of the film."
Tell me where it says "Official Movie Site". Someone is just having fun collecting clues from the "Real" websites and role playing with them by blogging "in character" . It's not the end of the world or anything. In fact I'm glad they saved me the work of hunting it all down.- Sabretou, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1Like I said, the attempt was pretty bad, too. It doesn't collect any clues, but randomly connects some and invents others.
- jedinate, on 01/30/2008, -1/+1Several people have commented that it is fan-made as if to imply that the poster claims it is official.
- sevenalive, on 01/30/2008, -7/+4I rate this R for Retarted. I wonder if this is the same nutjob who did the stopsectorseven for transformers. That guy was a dumbass and didnt know in the movie it was spelled sector se7en, but people still call it sector seven or sector 7, thinking its the same thing. Well from my own knowledge and expertise i can tell you it is not (read my name).
lol i got off topic there, anyway this was poorly written and just some stupid made up crap from someone who probably thinks he is the rock and is going to smack down some asses.- LeRenard, on 01/30/2008, -1/+1"I rate this R for Retarted."
You fail. Return to school.
- LeRenard, on 01/30/2008, -1/+1"I rate this R for Retarted."
- TrevorBelmont, on 01/30/2008, -4/+3This is so ***** stupid. I was in mild panic when I read "deep sea nectar" and started looking to make sure that the film makers had nothing to do with this. If they say that all this happened because of Slurm...
At any rate, everyone involved in this nonsense should be ashamed of themselves. Cut it out.
Buried.- tortillafactory, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2I'm pretty sure that all the links lead to actual ARG stuff that was planted by the production company. The Cloverfield Clues link at the end mentions all of it, it's from months ago and most of it was confirmed to be related to the promotion.
- evildeadguy, on 01/30/2008, -1/+1i'm pretty sure someone didnt actually see the movie.
- Balath, on 01/30/2008, -8/+1Cloverfield has no staying power as a monster movie. Any truly great monster movie focuses not upon the monster and overcoming his obstacles, but overcoming the obstacles of working with other people in order to survive.
- LeRenard, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1What? That sounds like a terrible movie. I just want to see things destroyed.
- greebowarrior, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4I think you meant
"Any truly GAY monster movie..." - Balath, on 01/30/2008, -1/+1No, I mean just what I said. Cloverfield will only last until some of its secrets are divulged, then people will lose interest because it won't be interesting or edgy anymore. Look at zombie movies as the best example. 28 Days/Weeks Later deals with the conflicts of those uninfected. Human against human drama opens up the door for bad things to happen. Yes, the monsters are terrifying, but even worse is the idea that you might have to kill or betray someone you know to survive.
- fantasyflamz, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2I think what is interesting about cloverfield isn't the character development, but the sense of immersion it gives you. It really makes you feel like you are experiencing all of the things that are happening. I agree that 28 days later (not 28 weeks later, b/c that was all about the blood and gore) was good b/c it dealt with human conflicts and cloverfield does not as much. But that is not the point of the movie. They both make good movies for different reasons. Even if we find out what happens, it is still engaging to watch because of the camera pov and how it makes it feel like you are the camera person and actually there to experience the horror, fear, and overwhelming anxiety.
- mychaleg, on 01/30/2008, -6/+3who the ***** cares? Cloverfield is nothing more than a glorified theme park ride.
- deaftly, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4and it was one kick ass ride
