- Cobainy, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24Hmmm, if you've ever seen 'Shaun of the dead', the film would appeal to you.
I personally like the mix of slapstick and more sophisticated humour, but that's just me. - Chewie67, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18I don't know if I would say it's the best, but I just saw Live Free or Die Hard last night, and I thought it was pretty damned good. They could have easily mailed this one in and cashed in on the Die Hard name, but they didn't. It was a really good movie.
- SouthKP, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17where's the Dramatic Chipmunk??
- KMye, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16If you start wrighting I think you will need a better spellchecker.
- colincornaby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Ratatouille was one of the best Pixar films I have seen in a long time. I have to admit I'm surprised to see it up there compared to more adult movies like Knocked Up, but I don't think it's place is undeserved.
- aladin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10The film has the perfect blend of great comedy, sweet action, some gore and cool dramatic action moments. So legit.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9How was "Ghost Rider" not in the list of worst movies of '07? Damn you, Nicholas Cage! /me shakes his fist
- SaintStryfe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Thank God "Once" is on that list.
It is by far one of the best films this year. I'd stretch and say best films of the decade so far. It's an honest to god story. The music is great and it felt like I was watching Cinema for a change. I had to drive two hours to see it and I'd do it again if I could. If this film doesn't get serious Academy consideration for Best Soundtrack, I'll write them off entirely.
This has been a good movie year - in the "low" part of the year we've had a nice blend of excellent family, comedy, musical and drama.
The bad isn't even THAT bad - there's no "Glitter"s or "From Justin to Kelly"s on this list. And the Blockbusters were universally acceptable. Even when they weren't as good as those that came before (Spider-man 3) they were very watchable.
I hope the rest of 2007 is just as good. It may be a good year at the movies for a change! - Habemus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10"THIS ... IS ... SPARTA!"
Hey, why isn't 300 on the list (top or bottom)?
The reviewers either loved it (1337's) or hated it (snobs). - JagoX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Transformers was great but you get dugg down for being a total blind fanboy.
- lukas88, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I am surprised Reign Over Me isn't on that list. Hard to believe that Adam Sandler can do a serious role, but he nails it. The movie is touching and very well done. Everyone should watch it.
- tnatharik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Zodiac was a great movie. Surely a classic.
- rightmindx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Agreed. "Once" has definitely been my favorite film that I've seen so far this year. I also think it says a lot about the MPAA that the movie, which I found completely wholesome and unoffensive, gets slapped with an "R" rating because the word "*****" is used a total of maybe 5 times, while movies like "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" (which opens with a young boy being hung from the gallows) get a "PG-13". It's a total joke.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10Grindhouse should be in the top 10
- JagoX, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7How was "The Number 23" on that list and Ghost Rider wasn't? I thought Jim Carrey did a SUPERB job at both being funny and being totally ***** up in the head all at the same time.
- Jeebugorn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5ummm, maybe cause every asian chick IS a ninja.....duh
- yakimushi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I think what people are missing here is that Rotten Tomatoes (www.rottentomatoes.com, the site that actually produced the content, not the blog-spam that's linked here on Digg) uses a ratings system based on aggregations of movie critics reviews. That's why you see several Indie and lower budget films in the top 10 (which is a top 25 on RT) versus some of the larger blockbusters (Transformers, 300).
- arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The Number 23 was pretty good also. I'm surprised that's on his "worst" list. It was ridiculous and unbelievable, but it was really entertaining and well done. This is why I never bother to read reviews from a single person. Hannibal Rising was good too.
- Cobainy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Link to the source, though, the slashfilm site had a far better layout.
http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/features/special/2007/midyeareport/ - nyrol2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Well transformers got a 56% on rotten tomatoes while ratitoulle got a 96%.
- nonsapiens, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Hot Fuzz: What an awesome film. For those who haven't seen it, highly recommended, especially if you enjoy the overdone buddy-cop genre.
- arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Thanks your post SaintStryfe. I looked this movie up on IMDb earlier and saw "Drama / Musical" and was immediately turned off (i absolutely hate most musicals), but after your post I went and checked out the trailer and it looks great.. nothing like I thought it would be.
- wonboodoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Rotten Tomatoes is about averages. Didn't you just answer your own question?
- Murphious, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Are you kidding? Hannibal rising was awful!
Why does the asian chick HAVE to be a ninja!? - dawgma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Alright Sarah Polly! She directed the number 2 movie on that list... I had such a crush on her when she was on Road to Avonlea
- Koldkompress, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Hot Fuzz was a fantastic movie. A bit of the humour is quite England-specific.. but it was an awesome parody. The first hour or so was pretty good.. but the last half an hour or so, with the "Avenging Angel" scene.. oh god, absolutely incredible.
- anonym41414, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think he has one. That's the problem. If somebody invents a spellchecker that can deal with homonyms, he'll make a fortune.
- rowlodge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1hannibal rising sucked yea but finding out he ate his kid sister was a twisted ending.
- Murphious, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Yeah, that thing was god awful..
WHY WAS HE DANCING!? - atrocityexhibit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I dont think that the plot was predictable, I think that it worked in the way that they had wanted it to; realistic. It was really about the MTV generation having to grow the ***** up when they realize they're in a world where they cant function like teenagers forever.
- samiringo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I'm so happy to see "Waitress" on the list! I just watched it a few days ago at the only theatre in town showing it, and it was well worth my time.
- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4As long as he doesn't pull that stupid high-pitched voice he does, because then I'd have to smash his face like Andy Dick.
- wonboodoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well no: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/300/
61%. i.e. in the middle. i.e. neither top nor bottom. You do understand what an average is right? - LogicBomB, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why is hot fuzz a best reviewed movie? The first half took itself WAY too seriously and had very little to no humor and the second half was so laughably silly that it didn't fit at all.
As someone who LOVES Shaun of the Dead I had great expectations for this movie but if you haven't seen it - you aren't missing much. - ViRaZ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Since getting off of chemotherapy for cancer I can't really remember some exact things in my life. So excuse me for thinking I'm spelling something correctly.
- Homest4r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Emo Spider-Man...
sigh - acid0426, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Good to see Knocked Up somewhere near the top. One of the funniest movies in a while that can make stupid jokes actually funny, instead of well.......stupid.
- arkanebeats, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I dare you to actually get the numbers and compare them.
- arkanebeats, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Stay in school
- arkanebeats, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't see how there is anything curious about the list at all, do you even understand what Rotten Tomatoes is?
- DangerMouse9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He was listening to Fallout Boy on his black ipod that was as black as his soul on the darkest midnight.
- Dylson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0^
- lhnz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Glad to see that Ratatouille is up here, given that so many people have left it alone.
- Evolve, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4Most inaccurate top & bottom 10 list EVER!
- 500fthigh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0What!! Norbit was included in the worst movie list, I'm shocked, NOT
- Raveren, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I couldn't bare the total nonsense about technology. There was too much BS to even begin enumerating! In places the movie was as kick ass as I hoped it to be but 'twas too late to get into it after so many illogical scenes.
- Junkey, on 10/11/2007, -6/+6This list is dumb as *****.
- Fairly, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Anybody surprised DIANE KEATON is at the top of the trash heap AGAIN? That excuse for I dunno what excels like no one else at being full of herself, pretentious, and in making absolutely excruciating to behold art. The mystery is why the studios are still financing her. I mean come on - does a blowjob from Diane Keaton sound that good?
- JaybeasCorpus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I actually saw Hot Fuzz before seeing Shaun of the Dead, and I liked Hot Fuzz better. Don't get me wrong - both are great movies, but I found Hot Fuzz's parody of overblown action/cop movies spot-on, and the comedy and action was a great mix. Not surprised at all it made the list.
- Van3ck, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I thought for sure that "Smoking Aces" would definitely be the worst reviewed... but it didn't even make the list?
Not only did that movie suck, but every reviewer POUNDED that one before it even hit theaters. It was actually more fun reading the bad reviews of the film, than to actually watch the film. -
