- psg188, on 02/19/2008, -11/+209The Shawshank Redemption is an amazing movie.
- steveoco, on 02/19/2008, -3/+84Saving private Ryan lost to shakespeare in love... that broke my heart.
- hokeywebb22, on 02/19/2008, -11/+77I like star wars as much as the next guy but it was in no way a better film then Annie Hall. Also there is no way in Hell E.T should have won best picture over Ghandi.

- Madgoldfish, on 02/19/2008, -12/+63Pulp Fiction got snubbed, definitely should be on the list. Star Wars, great movie, is not oscar worthy.
- krytz86, on 02/19/2008, -6/+56Rob Schnieders 'The Hot Chick' was amazing. Rollercoaster ride of emotional thrills and spills, a true masterpiece capped by an intense performance from Schnieder. I can't believe its no on this list.
- inkswamp, on 02/19/2008, -0/+43Because you don't talk about Fight Club.
- DSai, on 02/19/2008, -0/+43"George Lucas cites Hardware Wars, a 1977 spoof, as his favorite of all the Star Wars parodies, with Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs a close second choice. Lucas made no comment about SNL’s parody with Kevin Spacey doing Christopher Walken auditioning for the role of Hans Solo."
How is that even relevant to the article? - wastedlife, on 02/19/2008, -8/+47Why hasn't anyone mentioned Fight Club?
- mal1964, on 02/19/2008, -8/+451939 was probably the best year ever for great movies

- MillionsLivio, on 02/19/2008, -18/+49It is ironic that 2001: A Space Odyssey did not win an Oscar, which is arguably humanity's greatest work of cinema.
- Shakermaker, on 02/19/2008, -1/+30"Philadelphia: Never won Best Picture which went instead, in 1993, to Schindler’s List. Sure Philadelphia won for Tom Hanks as actor and Bruce Springsteen as songwriter, but it wasn’t even nominated for Best Picture. That omission still rankles."
For the love of God he better not be saying the Philadelphia SHOULD have won the oscar over Schindler's List. Schindler's List was head and shoulders a better movie than Philadelphia. - greatgatsbyII, on 02/19/2008, -4/+33Where's Pee Wee's big adventure?
- semeticstallion, on 02/19/2008, -1/+28And let us never forget "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly" never got one either! What a crime!
- RomulusX86, on 02/19/2008, -14/+40Children of Men was robbed of numerous Oscars, if you haven't seen the movie, do yourself a favor and check it out.
- houndeyex, on 02/19/2008, -3/+24Hi, I'm Han Solo and the only actor who's career isn't completely destroyed by this movie.
- Cebo, on 02/19/2008, -6/+27"E.T.: The Extra-terrestrial: Nominated but lost. Sure it won Best Music and Sound and FX but so what?"
It won best music over Conan The Barbarian which was the move that should have won that award. That's what. - SpaceMonkeyZero, on 02/19/2008, -1/+22Eyes Wide Shut was crap.
A.I. would have been 1000x better if Kubrick hadn't died and left Spielberg in charge. - mynameisjonas, on 02/19/2008, -4/+23how about L.A. Confidential losing to Titanic? what a piece of crap. Titanic winning that oscar made me lose my respect for the awards.
- davidwasman, on 02/19/2008, -5/+23I stopped reading when he said E.T. was better than Ghandi

- SRSco, on 02/19/2008, -3/+17"Non-US American?" Who are you? Miss South Carolina? What's a "US American?" What's a "Non-US American?" A Canadian?
Which Canadian films are ignored? Norman Jewison (a Canadian) has won 12 Oscars and been nominated 46 times.
If you want to see Canadian films recognized, check out the Genies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genie_Awards - highstriker, on 02/19/2008, -0/+13That's kind of a ridiculous comment to begin with.
For one- Star Wars gave a bunch of no-names a chance to shine, and they did. Carrie Fisher had only been in a single movie before Star Wars- so how exactly did these movies ruin her (practically non-existant) career as an actress? Mark Hamill is the same deal- he played the voice of a character in one movie, and that's it before he was in Star Wars. Yeah- these movies were the high-lights of their careers, but they certainly didn't ruin their careers. - kss42, on 02/19/2008, -3/+16This list almost could have been filled with Kubrick films. Nearly everything he did was Oscar-worthy, but time and again he got full metal jacked on the big night. Just like clockwork.
- aaronfleishman, on 11/07/2009, -1/+13Note: Some Like it Hot (1939) is not the well-known version. That was 1959.
- ethon, on 02/19/2008, -1/+13Requiem For a Dream. Ellen Burstyn should have won best actress over Julia Roberts.
- ichchappycat, on 02/19/2008, -5/+17I dugg. Great article. Some are explainable considering the competition those years. I liked the trivia at the end too.
- sintaxi, on 02/19/2008, -2/+132001 didn't even get nominated. WTF?
- unruled, on 02/19/2008, -1/+12dugg for shawshank and goodfellas

- giveer, on 02/19/2008, -3/+13Yee-ah.. Das za name for da Germahn saucer ship flying mah-sheen man.
- oldhick, on 02/19/2008, -1/+11I found the plot line fine, but the movie just didn't really play it out fully. While I think "Children of Men" is a fine movie, i think it the cinematography that I found most appealing.
- sebaparicio, on 02/19/2008, -1/+11A lot left out here. Raging Bull was not mentioned. Philadelphia better then Schindler's List? Dog Day Afternoon better than Cuckoo's Nest? Come on. Star Wars better than Annie Hall? (Well, Star Wars and Annie Hall are both masterpieces of incredibly imagination. But I do think that Annie Hall's structure was much more innovative, and more gripping in a emotional sense... I still love Star Wars though. It is also pretty hard for a sci-fi film, even the best, to win the Academy Award)
Yeah Philadelphia had a brilliant acting, but the film was carelessly executed. Schindler's list was is far from careless, it's pretty much a perfect film.
Dog Day Afternoon was intense, funny, emotional, and it had great acting. But it is much less powerful than Cuckoo's Nest.
And as Raging Bull goes... what where you thinking?
I totally agree with the Kubrick though, he should have won at least four. - osirislink, on 02/19/2008, -2/+12This film was captivating, yet also did not win an oscar - http://imdb.com/title/tt0274518/
- oldhick, on 02/19/2008, -6/+16Big time author? Major voice actor? Come on, give it up.

- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -0/+9Precisely. After Eyes Wide Shut I had to go back and watch four of his other films to remind myself why it was that I enjoyed his work so much.

- bigfatpaulie, on 02/19/2008, -2/+11While I agree it's overrated, it wasn't illustrating what a good man he was, but rather what a selfish man he was.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8Thanks for the morning chuckle...
