- zomgwaffles, on 10/19/2007, -1/+43holy sh*t, a cracked list on one page. I bet someone there got fired lol
- tonicboy, on 10/19/2007, -0/+28What I don't understand is, the name of the list implies that each of these items is a bad source of inspiration for movies, and yet he goes on to give several examples of great movies inspired by each source.
- tonicboy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Huh? As far as I know, there isn't a single film based on a web site, so how would this make it into the list?
- sfpfc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15The Critic explains it best
http://youtube.com/watch?v=U3F3GiUUHxE
"I'm a movie critic by trade, and until recently I got paid to tell you people which movies merely stink and which movies you shouldn't screen near an open flame. Well, I'm putting the burden of lousy movies back on you. It's very simple: If you stop going to bad movies, they'll stop making bad movies. If the movie used to be a TV show, just don't go. After Roman Numeral II, give it a rest. If it's a remake of a classic, rent the classic. Tell them you want stories about people, not a 100 million dollars of stunts and explosions. People it's up to you. If the movie stinks, just don't go." - sarazen, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15The only problem with this list is that when you cut out all these sources you don't have many places left to get good story ideas. It is not as though original screenplays are any more hit than miss.
The case for: Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Clerks, Rocky, Unforgiven
Against: Kangaroo Jack, Showgirls, Roller Boogie, Heartbeeps, Gigli - quigles3000, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11And Kangaroo Jack is based on a true story.
- Trax91, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Thank God cracked.com has finally put all in one page!
- beeftips65, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11"A little-known game adaptation: 1993 Spielberg film Schindler’s List was based on the classic game Arkanoid." i wikipediad arkanoid and wtf
- ZenMojo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Dugg for giving props to the ***** carebears!
- MrFisty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Uh, what about The Sims movie. Are they ***** serious? What, it'd follow the life of some guy, from infancy, through school, his first kiss, learning to drive, getting a job, married, kids of his own... then, if it's anything like the game, some unseen higher power will make him wear women's clothes, not shower and ***** his pants.
- chessimp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5And Rocky was based on a real boxer.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5adaptations just seem to always piss someone off, whether or not it's actually bad. When people don't like an original movie they just think it sucks, but when they don't like an adaptation, they act like the original source has somehow been ruined.
- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"every SNL movie other than Wayne’s World"
Ahem? Blues Brothers!
Perhaps because they were a musical "guest" on SNL there's an automatic exception. - thomasoa, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Boy, that was really pointless, and borderline illiterate.
- joshuaer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+48 Worst places, should have been 8 best places since almost every movie on the list was a #1 hit
- Roads01, on 10/20/2007, -6/+10I beg to differ on The Super Mario Bros. Movie...
Best Movie Ever. - h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If not these... Then where?
Aside from 'original' ideas of course. - sarazen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3 Kangaroo Jack was inspired by an urban legend, not a true story. Rocky you got me on, however, it wasn't sold as a true story like the examples in the article. If you like though replace it with Chinatown, that was partly based on a joke. As for Gigli, if that's true you got me there, but I can't verify that information and yes I did check.
- weeman43302, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3When you take these away you have nothing left.
- ffleming, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3He called Tombstone *****, automatic bury.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You thought wrong.
- ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3With an error tolerance of +- every movie ever made.
- crazzy88ss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I really enjoyed quite a few movies on that list...
- yfguitarist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You can say carebears, you don't have to add profanity to try to make it sound tougher.
- spawnfree, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the LOLcats movie will change your tune.
- Goobernutz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So that leaves what? Movies inspired by inspiration? It ain't gonna happen.
- moses48, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'll take the stunts and explosions, please.
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Thats nice they name the sources of every movie. I guess we shouldn't even make movies anymore.
- whatthefu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He's right about All the King's Men. Both movies sucked. Good thing it was such an amazing book it could never be tarnished in my memory.
- Renuvian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh man, they're making an Everquest movie. I could not be happier. I hope its as bad as the Dungeons and Dragons movie.
- thegeoffmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2'Movies derived from "Real Life" experience' is on the list! Why shouldn't movies draw from real life? They are far more authentic and meaningful when they do. Personally, I don't agree with many on the list.
- ZenMojo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Gigli's a French film remake.
- DoobieWheel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The Darwin Awards
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And me. Don't steal movie ideas from me. Because then I'd get pissed off. And it probably wouldn't be entertaining to anyone but me, anyway. Like this idea I had that came to me in a dream for a movie called "Mars-Mallows." Seriously, I had a dream about 20-foot marshmallows from outer space that would squish people and absorb them, and when I woke up, I realized it was the most brilliant movie idea EVER!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3But what about Serenity
- JEWestbrookJR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Any one else excited for Will Smith to ruin "I am legend"? That book was my ***** favorite and it's about to be torn to shreds.
"The Last Man on Earth" (the movie of the book) starring Vincent price is the only "I am legend" movie that should ever exist. - s0medantastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where else are the movie ideas going to come from? :/
- allisonaxe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1quote from the article:
"In the sense that video games are the newer, more visceral art form, the video-game movie is to cinema what the movie novelization is to literature—-an adaptation that by the very nature of the medium is less interesting and engaging than the original."
Dugg for being the most spot-on thing I've ever read about video-game movies. I feel stupid for not having made this comparison myself. THIS is why video game movies suck: its like reading "revenge of the sith: the novelization of the movie!"
i actually like most of the cracked articles that I read, but i rarely digg them, due to formatting issues. this time, i digg it, also because its on one page. they're learning! - chad78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1dude! I would SO watch digg - the movie!
I'd also watch Wikipedia the movie - where we could stop the film right in the part where it was telling us about the history of Pakistan and make it have 10 minutes of fart jokes and links to our myspace page.... that would be funny.
Then there's Google.Film - that would be a movie about absolutely everything.
hmmmm... I must ponder this..... - gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Resident Evil games deserve better than what they got from the film industry. Someone needs to make a REAL Resident Evil film adaptation, this time actually based on some games!
- ElFredo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Crimson River (Les Rivières Pourpre) is NOT a remake of Se7en. It is an adaptation of a french novel by Jean-Christophe Grangé (with a different ending). Granted, Kassovitz was obviously very influenced by Fincher's movie, but the comparison stops there.
- jtorkbob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He dissed Mario. The nerve. If Final Fantasy made it, Mario should make it.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I doubt that the new movie will somehow ruin your enjoyment of the book. If you don't think it will be good, don't see it, problem solved.
I've read that book, seen both movies (Last Man on Earth and the Omega Man) and plan on seeing the new one. - edwartica, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Don't give holywood any ideas, k?
- JaredXM, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4You didn't know what arkanoid was? Yeah I guess that was a joke? (the part that that is what Shindlers List is based off of.
- weeman43302, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'd pay to see that
- thirteenthcor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dug for this:
"There are literally hundreds of smart people who aren’t American, and some of them actually have good ideas for movies. What they don’t have is a city with a multibillion dollar economy based around grown ups playing make believe in front of cameras. Remakes of foreign films have brought some awesome movies to audiences who would otherwise never have seen them because the actors in the original insisted on speaking gibberish."
Gold - graywolf323, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Everything is Illuminated was a good movie.....
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1a movie doesn't have to be 'artsy' or 'meaningful' to be good, it just has to be enjoyable to watch. I personally enjoy stunts and explosions, therefore the movies that do those well i might like better.
- nextyoyoma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1did anyone else read this as "The 8 worst places to steal a movie" as in "worst places to have the idea of stealing a movie"?
