Ducking and covering is meant to protect you from debris (especially from broken windows), and it does to some extent. By covering exposed skin and your neck you are also are reducing the odds that you'll be burned or that you'll be injured.
Of course, regardless of what you do, you will be killed when you're within the blast radius. I saw a bunch of wierd films, but they were in english/communication classes and they were supposed to be weird.
