- GavinZac, on 12/30/2008, -4/+87¿Que?
- jambaj0e, on 12/30/2008, -1/+67Missing Slumdog Millionaire, which is one of the best movies in 2008 and now a Golden Globes contender for Best Picture. And yes, it neither released widely nor seen by that many people. If you haven't seen it, you should =D
- rukeypoo, on 12/30/2008, -10/+71Speed Racer?
- inactive, on 12/30/2008, -3/+59Dugg because "Taken" is like a badass combination of "Man on Fire" and any of the Jason Bourne Trilogy... Only in Taken Oscar Schindler spends the whole movie beating the ***** out of the French and Eurotrash

- Ryan2845, on 12/30/2008, -1/+36Queue pasa?
- fatas, on 12/30/2008, -1/+30even most Australians said Australia (the movie) was crap
- YuriSakazaki, on 12/30/2008, -25/+51Buried for Speed Racer. I'm really pissed that the Wachowski siblings stole $8.50 from me.
- manicleek, on 12/30/2008, -9/+321. I have seen most of them
2. Speed Racer? GET ***** - krekc, on 12/30/2008, -1/+23Dugg for all on one page and not 19. Also for The Fall.
- inactive, on 12/30/2008, -2/+24I actually enjoyed Speed Racer and thought the movies reviews were much harsher than actually deserved.
- tanuki0, on 12/30/2008, -2/+24The Fall was gorgeous, the story might be inconsistant sometimes but it was really beautiful.
- GavinZac, on 12/30/2008, -1/+21You should support these 'under the radar' movies by paying for them at least in some way, so that people actually keep making them and we don't get stuck with rubbish like The Day The World Stood Still2.0 which will make money regardless of how many people download them.
- psingl8715, on 12/30/2008, -1/+20I agree! That movie was freaking awsome.
- borez, on 12/30/2008, -2/+20Man on Wire... superb
- fremeer, on 12/30/2008, -0/+17taken was a great movie.
- jcaffoe, on 12/30/2008, -2/+19don't knock it til you've seen it.
I went in with incredibly low expectations and absolutely loved it. One of my top 5 from this year. - McBradd, on 12/30/2008, -3/+20How it that possible? They count the number of positive reviews, and the number of negative reviews and give you a ratio. It's the only unbiased, objective way of ranking artistic media. The only time I've ever seen it really off is when there are only a couple reviews available.
- SzymonStas, on 12/30/2008, -0/+16WTF R U TALKING ABOUT??? ___________ WAS AWFUL!!
BURIED CUZ U R DUMB - Xeworlebi, on 12/30/2008, -2/+18Have you ever seen the difference on rottentomatoes between the "critics" and the community?
When I saw that (before Man on Wire came out) Toy Story 2 was the best rated movie ever on rottentomatoes, I deleted that bookmark.
The list; T-meter → critics / community
1) American teen 70% → 74% / 67%
2) Australia 53% → 52% / 75%
3) Baghead 77% → 79% / 50%
4) Charlie Bartlett 54% → 50% / 79%
5) Choke - 55% → 36% / 79%
6) City of ember - 51% → 61% / 82%
7) The Escapist - 88% → N/A / 100%
8) The Fall - 60% → 47% / 90%
9) Hamlet 2 - 63% → 57% / 70%
10) Let the right one in - 97% → 96% / 95%
11) Man on Wire - 100% → 100% / 71%
12) Nick and Norah's infinite playlist - 72% → 83% / 72%
13) Ping Pong Playa - 69% → 67% / 75%
14) The Promotion - 51% → 45% / 71%
15) Son of Rambow - 74% → 72% / 84%
16) Speed Racer - 36% → 30% / 76%
17) Taken - 50% → N/A / 91%
18) The Wackness - N/A
19) Young People ***** - N/A
In some cases the difference is just ridiculous. - B3000, on 12/30/2008, -4/+19I've only seen 6 of these. Of the 6, Young People ***** was awful and Charlie Bartlett and City of Ember were decent at best, but I've got to agree with Speed Racer, The Fall and The Promotion.
Some movies I think should have been on the list but weren't -
In Bruges
Transsiberian
The Foot Fist Way
Synecdoche New York - DrewBlood, on 12/30/2008, -0/+14Psh, totally overrated. His earlier work dwarfs that mainstream pile of dreck. What a sellout.
- oxidaxien, on 12/30/2008, -2/+15What about Gran Torino and The Wrestler?
- inactive, on 12/30/2008, -1/+13Yo tengo el gato en mi pantalones.
- s4g4n, on 12/30/2008, -1/+13Dugg for Son of Ranbow, kickass film
- MarrowMan, on 12/30/2008, -0/+12Taken should be #1, Liam Neeson was a total bad-ass in it.
- reticentnz, on 12/30/2008, -0/+12everyone saw that movie knob.
- bulbasuar, on 12/30/2008, -1/+12Same, love Speed Racer. Got it on Blu Ray, its a incredible watch at 1080p on a good TV.
- maxwashere, on 12/30/2008, -0/+11Speed Racer was hammy, kitschy, and stuffed with cheese--- and that's why I loved it.
- Philosomatika, on 12/30/2008, -6/+17I would recommend checking out Young People *****, The Wackness, Taken, Bag Head and American Teen along with every other film on the list. Apart from Speed Racer.
Thanks to sites like SceneReleases ive been able to view most of these films already that I would of never have heard of and they say downloading movies is a bad thing. - Browzer, on 12/30/2008, -1/+12I think Speed Racer and Hellboy 2 were the two best looking movies from last year.
- migitalwarfare, on 12/30/2008, -1/+11fremeer, your powers of persuasion are astounding. Argument, over.
- jave8u, on 12/30/2008, -0/+10@McBradd: I love you
- xaeon, on 12/30/2008, -0/+10Uhm, Nicole Kidman is Australian.
- epynephrin, on 12/30/2008, -0/+10I can totally agree. Speed Racer was definitely under-appreciated; Hellboy 2 definitely as well. Both were excellent films that went by without as much hype or appreciation as they deserved.
One of the things that most intrigued me about Speed Racer was the way in which it brought up the argument of art as a subjective or objective endeavor: is it possible to create "art" (in this case, the art of racing--as several characters discuss it) for purely financial reasons, or must there be something deeper?
This is, at least, what I saw.
Hellboy 2 as well--amazing characters, excellent humor, continued and improved on the mythos of the original. An awesome, and under-loved film.
I will also agree with their picking The Wackness on that list. Great, great movie. - migitalwarfare, on 12/30/2008, -7/+17Australia, Choke, Hamlet 2, Speed Racer, and Wackness are all ***** movies. Seriously ***** awful list.
- elitegrunt, on 12/30/2008, -0/+9he said he has a cat in his pants so i doubt he wants another
- GeneParmesann, on 12/30/2008, -4/+13While I have heard of nearly all of these, the title is correct in that I hadn't seen most of them. The majority of these were allocated to a "I'm not sure if this looks good or not" place in my mind. This article may just be the push I need to check them out.
- Philosomatika, on 12/30/2008, -0/+9Your right and I do. With films like these I go out and by the dvd's and thats no lie. I watch a lot of films and 99% of it is crap but 1% is pure gold, case and point the fore mentioned films and thats why I buy them on dvd.
- Towelie, on 12/30/2008, -2/+11saw:
Ping Pong Playa:Funny surprise
Charlie Bartlett:Kinda cool movie..don't don't expect big laugh (more of a teen movie)
Taken:Best choice in the list.Simple story but great action..won't spoil too much but an ex-spy/can get the job done guy get is daughter kidnapped..so get gets really pissed - cavar, on 12/30/2008, -2/+11Baghead, Choke, Let the Right One In, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, The Wackness, Young People *****...
Perhaps some of them would have done better business if they had more sensible titles. - iamvahe, on 12/31/2008, -0/+8Brian: Mi amo es Brian.
Mexican: That was pretty good, but when you say 'Mi amo es', you don't need the 'es', just 'Mi amo Brian'.
Brian: Oh, you speak English?
Mexican: No, just that sentence and this one explaining it.
Brian: You're kidding, right?
Mexican: Que? - vegx, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8Both movies are only in limited release until January.
- atchon, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8Was looking for a post about In Bruges. That was definitely one of my top 5 of 2008.
- inactive, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8I agree except for The Wackness. I thought that movie was great.
